CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Honda Odyssey
overall

Summary
With 1,198 currently listed for sale and an average price of $26,814.00, 30.7% of 2021 Honda Odysseys for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Honda Odyssey 4.8 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
66.4% of 2021 Odyssey models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Honda Odyssey stands out as a family-focused minivan that blends improved safety, upgraded technology, enhanced utility, and spruced-up styling. It is presented as a freshened model that is ready to defend its turf against revitalized competitors, and that positioning fits its appeal: it aims to make daily life easier by reducing friction when carrying passengers, cargo, or both. For buyers who want a practical vehicle that still feels thoughtfully updated, that combination is a major part of its draw.
Space is one of the Odyssey’s clearest strengths. It is described as spacious, with a spacious third row, which supports its role as a people mover for families. The styling is also a plus, giving the minivan a more polished presence than the stereotype suggests. Owners echo that family-friendly mission, praising its space and safety features as well as its helpful features for families and good drivability.
There are tradeoffs, though. The 2021 Honda Odyssey is not available as a hybrid, all-wheel drive is not available, and it is not as luxurious as its competitors. Even so, its mix of roominess, usability, and updated presentation makes it a compelling choice for shoppers who value everyday convenience over flashier hardware.

Car is great. Handles well and has space. Great family car. Steering wheel could use a motorized function for adjusting height and distance. Power 3rd row seats could be cool as well.

Love the vehicle! Just don’t care for the darker color wheels.

This is my 3rd Honda Odyssey, so the car works well for me. I’d still like to see a modification to fold the seats into the floor (like the Chrysler Pacifica) now that Chrysler/Dodge’s patent on that design has expired. At least the 2nd row seats come completely out - they are just really heavy and awkward to move. I miss the compartment under the center dashboard - it was nice storage. I also miss the blind spot camera that I had in my 2014 that gave you a view for lane changing.

With 28.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Honda Odyssey reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback emphasizes that the Odyssey feels dependable for family duty, with repeated praise for its space, safety, and helpful features. That kind of feedback matters when you want a vehicle you can count on for daily routines and longer trips.
The expert evaluation also describes the drivetrain as a terrific combination that supplies smooth, effortless power, which supports the sense that the Odyssey is built for steady, low-stress use. Honda also notes improved brake pedal feel and response.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that wear-and-tear items may matter more than the basic powertrain story, so condition and maintenance history deserve close attention.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Odyssey?
At 67.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are comparing multiple listings at similar prices. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven wear, and any evidence that family-use wear has been heavy.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LX gets standard LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation and Honda Sensing, but blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning requires at least EX trim.
- Powertrain: A 3.5-liter V6 with a ten-speed automatic powers the front wheels, makes 280 horsepower, and uses variable cylinder management to help conserve fuel.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes low-speed follow capability for adaptive cruise control, pedestrian braking, road-sign recognition, and a dashboard menu button for quick access to ADAS settings. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is not standard on LX.
- Infotainment: Starting with EX trim, you get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, HD Radio, text-messaging support, basic HondaLink connectivity, and a Cabin Control smartphone app. Touring adds navigation, WiFi capability, CabinWatch, and CabinTalk, while Elite adds wireless smartphone charging.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA says it should get 22 mpg in combined driving, and testing returned 21.8 mpg.
Which 2021 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?
The 2021 Honda Odyssey is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the entry point, and it already gives you standard LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation plus Honda Sensing. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Odyssey, but you give up blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning and the richer infotainment setup found higher up.
- EX: This is the first trim with the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, HD Radio, text-messaging support, basic HondaLink connectivity, and the Cabin Control smartphone app. It is the best-value trim if you want the core family-tech features without paying for the upper-trim extras.
- EX-L: This trim sits above EX and is part of the lineup that gets the updated seating material and design improvements. It is the sensible step up if you want a more upscale feel without jumping to the tech-heavy Touring or Elite.
- Touring: This trim adds navigation, HondaLink subscription plans, WiFi capability, CabinWatch, CabinTalk, and the rear-seat entertainment system. It suits you if you want the Odyssey to be a long-trip command center for passengers.
- Elite: This is the most upscale version, with perforated leather upholstery with contrast stitching and piping, ambient lighting, an 11-speaker premium sound system, multi-zone listening options, and wireless smartphone charging. It is the right pick if you want the most premium Odyssey experience.
Honda Sensing is standard on base LX trim, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning requires at least EX trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Odyssey?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find value.
- Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,199 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.19% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 67.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,331.60, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Honda Odyssey's resale value?
The current average of $26,791 sits slightly below last year's $28,560.
That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays under pressure. If you plan to sell later, the current trend suggests you should focus on buying well and avoiding overpaying today.
Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to resell, especially for a family vehicle with a loyal audience.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Honda Odyssey safe?
The Odyssey should once again earn a Top Safety Pick recommendation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it earns five-star ratings for every NHTSA assessment aside from rollover resistance, for which it earns a four-star score.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard on base LX trim and includes low-speed follow capability for adaptive cruise control, pedestrian braking, road-sign recognition, and a dashboard menu button for quick access to ADAS settings. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning still requires at least EX trim.
The expert review notes that the ADAS works accurately, though not always as smoothly as you might wish. It also points out that adaptive cruise control can apply uneven braking and that the lane-departure warning system can feel a bit abrupt.
Should I buy a 2021 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 67.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.19% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 brings improved safety, upgraded technology, and freshened styling.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $29,996, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $26,791 average.
- It adds no changes, so you are mainly paying more for the next model year.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and meaningful updates. If you are shopping strictly by model year and do not mind paying more, the 2022 is the fallback choice, but it does not bring enough change to justify the higher price for most buyers.
