How much does the 2021 Honda Civic cost?

Prices have softened 3.25% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,795 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Honda Civic a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Honda Civic earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, great fuel economy, comfortable ride, spacious trunk, and enjoyable driving experience. The Civic also fits shoppers who want a practical compact car with personality, multiple body styles, and a familiar, widely seen presence on American roads.

The main trade-offs are its underwhelming base engine, outdated technology, and interior materials that can feel cheap. Even so, the Civic remains a strong fit if you want a proven compact car with value and driving character, and 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2021 Honda Civic reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe the Civic as reliable, and the expert review reinforces that by saying you can count on it for peace of mind, reliability, fuel efficiency, and safety. The ownership picture also points to strong long-term confidence rather than a car that feels fragile or high-maintenance.

Honda does not emphasize extra ownership perks here, but the Civic’s reputation for holding value and being easy to sell later supports its dependability story. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about finding one that has been cared for properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Civic?

At 60.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because accident history is common enough to matter, condition should carry extra weight in your decision.

Pay close attention to trim equipment, infotainment usability, and whether the car has the safety and convenience features you want. If you are comparing multiple listings, focus on the one with the cleanest history and the best overall condition rather than the lowest sticker price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: LX trim is the most basic version, with a 5-inch LCD screen, Bluetooth, and a 1.0-amp USB port, while Sport adds the 7-inch high-definition touchscreen, an eight-speaker sound system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, text-messaging support, basic HondaLink connected services, and a more powerful 1.5-amp USB port. EX adds HD Radio and SiriusXM satellite radio, and Touring brings navigation with voice recognition, digital traffic, and a 10-speaker premium audio system.
• Powertrain: LX and Sport use an adequate 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. The turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder in EX, EX-L, and Touring makes 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque and is the stronger choice if you want more punch.
• Safety package: Every Civic gets Honda Sensing, which includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist System, automatic high-beam headlights, and a multi-angle reversing camera. LaneWatch is available starting with EX trim, but there is no traditional radar-based blind-spot warning system or rear cross-traffic warning system.
• Infotainment: The screen grows from 5 inches on LX to a 7-inch high-definition touchscreen on Sport, and Touring adds navigation with voice recognition and digital traffic. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available on Sport, but the system still feels dated overall.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT helps fuel economy, and the expert review notes a 34.8 mpg average on a 140-mile driving loop, beating the EPA estimate of 33 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2021 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2021 Honda Civic is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the least expensive way into the Civic, but it is also the most stripped-down. You get the basic screen and connectivity setup, so it makes sense only if price matters more than convenience.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, an eight-speaker audio system, and the more powerful USB port without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• EX: Choose this if you want the turbocharged engine plus HD Radio and SiriusXM satellite radio, along with LaneWatch starting here.
• EX-L: This trim builds on the turbocharged setup and is the better pick if you want a more upscale feel without going all the way to Touring.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped Civic sedan, with navigation, digital traffic, and the 10-speaker premium audio system. It is also the trim tied to the top-rated headlights for the strongest safety designation.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, but LaneWatch starts with EX trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,795 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.25% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,961, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $19,218 sits slightly below last year's $19,864.

That softer pricing suggests the Civic is in a buyer-friendly phase right now, which can matter if you plan to sell later. A lower current average can make it easier for you to buy in, but it also means future resale gains may be more gradual than they were a year ago.

Even so, the Civic’s strong reputation, broad appeal, and steady demand help support long-term value. If you keep the car in clean condition and avoid accident history, you should be in a better position when it is time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Honda Civic safe?

The 2021 Civic earns a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), though that rating only applies to Touring trim.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Civic comes with Honda Sensing, which includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist System, automatic high-beam headlights, and a multi-angle reversing camera. LaneWatch is available starting with EX trim, but the car does not offer a traditional radar-based blind-spot warning system or rear cross-traffic warning system.

The NHTSA gives the Civic five-star ratings in every single assessment, which is a strong sign of crash-test performance. The main caveat is that the IIHS recognition is tied to Touring trim because of its top-rated LED headlights.

Should I buy a 2021 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.25% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Honda is retiring the 10th-generation Civic, making this a proven final-year version before the redesign.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $18,573, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $19,218 average.
• It adds minor design tweaks, more standard safety and convenience features, and more manual transmissions.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $22,050, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $19,218 average.
• It brings a full redesign with stronger handling, more polished technology, and plenty of cargo space.

The bottom line: If you want the proven outgoing Civic with strong value and broad availability, the 2021 is the main path to consider. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2020 can save you money, while the 2022 makes sense if you want the redesign and are willing to pay more.

How does the 2021 Honda Civic compare to the 2021 Toyota Corolla?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2021 Honda Civic:

• Pros: Stylish design, Multiple body styles, Fun to drive.
• Cons: Underwhelming base engine, Outdated technology, Interior materials feel cheap.

2021 Toyota Corolla:

• Pros: Standard advanced safety features, Fun to drive, Manual transmission available.
• Cons: Noisy, Outdated technology.

Our experts score the 2021 Honda Civic 7.2/10 and the 2021 Toyota Corolla 7.8/10. The Civic stands out for style, body-style variety, and driving enjoyment, while the Corolla leans on standard advanced safety features and a manual transmission option. Both have outdated technology, but the Civic’s weaker base engine and cheaper-feeling interior materials are worth weighing against the Corolla’s noise complaint.
