How much does the 2021 Honda Civic cost?

Prices have softened 2.80% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,817 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2021 Honda Civic a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Honda Civic earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, great fuel economy, comfortable ride, spacious trunk, and enjoyable driving experience. In practical terms, that lines up with a compact car that feels easy to live with and still has personality.

The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and the outdated technology, with some owners wishing for more advanced infotainment and driver-assist features. Even so, the Civic’s multiple body styles and broad appeal make it a strong fit if you want a practical compact car with character.

There are 33.9% good or great deals in the market, so you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Honda Civic reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car you can count on, with language centered on reliability, fuel economy, and a comfortable, trouble-free ownership experience. The expert review also emphasizes peace of mind, saying you know it will be reliable and fuel-efficient.

Honda also frames the Civic as a car that holds its value well, which usually goes hand in hand with dependable long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the Civic’s basic durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by heavy use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Civic?

At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, electronics, and interior condition. Because the Civic’s technology is a known weak point, make sure every infotainment and driver-assist feature works as expected. It also makes sense to focus on trim-specific equipment so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: LX trim is the most basic, with a 5-inch LCD screen, Bluetooth, and a 1.0-amp USB port, while Sport adds the 7-inch high-definition touchscreen, an eight-speaker sound system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, text-messaging support, basic HondaLink connected services, and a more powerful 1.5-amp USB port. EX adds HD Radio and SiriusXM satellite radio, and Touring brings navigation with voice recognition, digital traffic, and a 10-speaker premium audio system.
• Powertrain: LX and Sport use an adequate 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. EX, EX-L, and Touring get a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, which is the stronger choice.
• Safety package: Every Civic gets Honda Sensing, which includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, Road Departure Mitigation, and Lane Keeping Assist System. Automatic high-beam headlights and a multi-angle reversing camera are also standard. LaneWatch is available starting with EX trim, and the Touring trim gets the top-rated set of LED headlights tied to the IIHS recognition.
• Infotainment: The screen ranges from a 5-inch LCD on LX to a 7-inch high-definition touchscreen on Sport and above. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto arrive on Sport, while Touring adds navigation with voice recognition and digital traffic. OTA capability is not mentioned.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT helps fuel economy, and the review notes an observed 34.8 mpg on a 140-mile driving loop, beating the EPA estimate of 33 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2021 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2021 Honda Civic is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the most affordable entry point, but it is also the most stripped-down. You get the basic 5-inch screen and the simpler tech setup, so it makes sense only if price matters more than convenience.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, an eight-speaker audio system, and the stronger USB port without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• EX: This trim is the better pick if you want more comfort and convenience, since it adds HD Radio, SiriusXM satellite radio, and LaneWatch starting here.
• EX-L: This trim sits above EX, but the provided data does not spell out enough unique equipment to make it the obvious choice over Sport or Touring.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, with navigation, digital traffic, a premium 10-speaker audio system, and the top-rated headlights tied to the Civic’s IIHS recognition.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, while LaneWatch starts with EX trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,817 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.80% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,960, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $19,173 sits slightly below last year's $19,725.

That softer pricing suggests the Civic is still in demand, but buyers have a bit more leverage than they did a year ago. If you plan to sell later, the current market shows that the Civic remains a recognizable, broadly appealing compact car, which helps support future demand.

Because the model is still attracting shoppers and has a strong reputation for value and reliability, it should remain easier to move than many rivals. The current price trend is a reminder that resale is healthy, but not immune to broader market shifts.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Honda Civic safe?

The 2021 Honda Civic earns a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives it five-star ratings in every single assessment.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, Road Departure Mitigation, and Lane Keeping Assist System. Automatic high-beam headlights and a multi-angle reversing camera are also standard.

A key caveat is that LaneWatch is only available starting with EX trim, and the Civic does not offer a traditional radar-based blind-spot warning system or rear cross-traffic warning system. The IIHS Top Safety Pick designation also applies only to Touring trim, which has the top-rated set of LED headlights.

Should I buy a 2021 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.80% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Honda is retiring this generation, and the 2021 remains appealing as the last of its kind before the redesign.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $18,519, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $19,173 average.
• Minor updates add more standard safety and convenience features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $21,981, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $19,173 average.
• The redesign brings stronger handling and more impressive technology.

The bottom line: If you want the outgoing Civic with proven appeal and better current pricing, the 2021 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 is the value play; if you want the redesign and can spend more, move to the 2022.
