CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Genesis G70
overall

Summary
With 294 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,884, 30.6% of 2021 Genesis G70s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Genesis G70 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
73.8% of 2021 G70 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Genesis G70 stands out as an entry-level luxury sport sedan that leans hard into style and performance. Genesis describes it as a surprise contender in a competitive segment, and its available twin-turbo engine gives it a more aggressive edge than its positioning might suggest. It also brings show-stopping style and solid safety scores, which help it feel like a serious alternative in a crowded class.
For 2021, the G70 receives minor updates that include a shuffling of trim levels and features. That keeps the car fresh without changing its basic formula: a fun-to-drive sedan with excellent value for money and premium standard features. It is also part of Genesis’s broader appeal as a brand, with a long warranty and strong safety scores aimed at drawing buyers away from better-known rivals.
There are tradeoffs, though. The base engine is underwhelming, the back seat is cramped, and cargo space is limited. Even so, the 2021 Genesis G70 remains distinctive for buyers who want a stylish, well-equipped luxury sedan that emphasizes driving enjoyment and value.

The G70 is an outstanding luxury sport sedan. It directly competes with Audi, BMW, Lexus, Infinity and Benz. In some categories, it is better. This car is a performance sleeper and will surprise many of mentioned car brands.

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The G70’s appeal is reinforced by Genesis’s long warranty coverage and its reputation for solid safety scores. It is also described as a value-oriented luxury sedan with premium standard features, which can help reduce the feeling that you are overpaying for the badge.
Its performance credentials are strong, with both engines described as delivering strong acceleration and the automatic transmission doing its job without complaint. Genesis also backs the car with a five-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
For used buyers, the biggest long-term ownership risk is less about the brand promise and more about finding a well-kept example that has not been neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Genesis G70?
At 73.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage or lower-priced car. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s equipment and driving feel match the seller’s description.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin gets upscale finishes and excellent build quality, while higher configurations add quilted Nappa leather seats and more standard features. The optional sunroof can also make the interior feel lighter and less restrained.
- Powertrain: You can choose a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 252 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, or a twin-turbo V6 with 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is optional, and the eight-speed automatic is the main transmission.
- Safety package: Standard safety features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, driver attention monitoring, and forward-collision warning. Parking sensors are also available.
- Infotainment: Standard tech includes an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD radio, and six speakers. Available upgrades include a 15-speaker Lexicon audio system, navigation, parking sensors, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, a surround-view camera system, and wireless device charging.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter engine returns 18/28/22 mpg city/highway/combined with a manual transmission, 22/30/25 mpg with an automatic, and 20/27/23 mpg with AWD. The 3.3T returns 17/26/20 mpg with RWD and 17/25/20 mpg with AWD.
Which 2021 Genesis G70 trim should I buy?
The 2021 Genesis G70 is offered in 2 trim levels: 2.0T and 3.3T.
Here's the short version:
- 2.0T: This is the value play if you want the G70’s style, premium cabin, and standard feature set without paying for the more powerful engine. It still gives you the core driving character and is the better fit if you care more about price and efficiency than outright speed.
- 3.3T: This is the one to choose if you want the strongest performance and the most aggressive personality. The twin-turbo V6, adaptive dampers, and stronger acceleration make it the enthusiast’s pick, especially if you want the G70 to feel as sporty as it looks.
The safety package is strong across the lineup, with standard driver-assistance features already well covered.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Genesis G70?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to make comparison shopping worthwhile.
- Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 300 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.28% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 73.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,804, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Genesis G70's resale value?
The current average of $22,944 sits slightly below last year's $25,290.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the car more attractive to buyers but less favorable for sellers trying to maximize return. If you are planning to resell later, the current softness means your purchase price matters more than usual.
The G70’s strong value story and premium equipment help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable features. A clean history and strong condition should matter a lot when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Genesis G70 safe?
The 2021 Genesis G70 earns the highest Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, driver attention monitoring, and forward-collision warning. Parking sensors are also available.
That combination gives you a strong safety foundation, especially if you want a luxury sedan with a broad set of standard driver aids.
Should I buy a 2021 Genesis G70 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 73.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.28% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It keeps the G70’s stylish design, strong value, and fun-to-drive character while adding minor updates for the year.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $20,796, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $22,944 average.
- It offers a distinctive, stylish small luxury sedan with strong value and a premium feel.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $26,652, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $22,944 average.
- It adds new styling, an improved infotainment system, and Highway Driving Assist.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, style, and safety, the 2021 is the sweet spot. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2020 can save you money, while the 2022 makes sense if you want the newer tech and updates enough to justify the higher cost.
