Used 2021 GMC Canyon for Sale nearTrenton, NJ

How much does the 2021 GMC Canyon cost?

Prices have softened 7.29% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,167 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon a good car?

Generally — the 2021 GMC Canyon earns a 4.3/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its value, appearance, and numerous features, and they also like the spacious interior and luxury-like features for the price. The main trade-offs are a stiff, loud ride on the highway and a diesel engine that can feel short on power in some situations.

For you, that means the Canyon makes the most sense if you want a smaller pickup with big-truck styling and useful features rather than the most refined ride in the class. Good and great deals account for 34.4% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable in day-to-day use, with praise centered on value, features, and overall satisfaction. The expert evaluation also describes it as a capable, enjoyable pickup, and the diesel setup is noted for its strong torque when properly equipped.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright failure and more about choosing the right configuration and condition, since some versions can feel underpowered or less polished than you might expect.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 GMC Canyon?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because accident-free status does not replace a proper inspection. Pay close attention to ride quality, cabin condition, and how the truck feels over rough pavement, since the Canyon’s character can vary a lot by trim and equipment. If you’re considering a higher-mileage example, make sure the powertrain and interior show the kind of wear you’d expect for the price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Elevation Standard gives you 18-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels, signature LED running lights, the CornerStep rear bumper, black door handles and side mirrors, manually adjustable front seats, power locks, two USB ports, and a standard 7-inch touchscreen. The Elevation adds LED fog lights, remote start, body-color door handles, a manually sliding rear window, a six-way power driver’s seat, automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and aluminum interior accents. The AT4 adds 17-inch dark metallic aluminum wheels, aggressive Goodyear all-terrain tires, red tow hooks, off-road suspension, and underbody skid plates. The Denali adds polished aluminum wheels, polished exhaust tip, chrome side steps, chrome door handles, LED bed lighting, a spray-on bed-liner, a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, an 8-inch infotainment system, Bose premium audio, heated-and-cooled front seats, and a wireless charging pad.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque paired with a six-speed automatic. A 3.6-liter V6 is optional on the Elevation trims and standard on the AT4 and Denali, with 308 hp and 275 lb-ft through an eight-speed automatic. A 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder turbodiesel is also available, making 181 hp and 369 lb-ft through a six-speed automatic. The base gas four-cylinder has to work hard, while the V6 is the better choice if you want stronger everyday response.
• Safety package: The standard safety equipment includes a rearview camera, tire pressure monitoring system, front-and-side-impact airbags, traction control, and Teen Driver. The available Driver Alert package adds forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and rear parking alert, and it is standard on the Denali but optional on other trims. The Denali also adds an upgraded HD backup camera and Hitch Guidance.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A larger 8-inch screen is optional on the Elevation and AT4 and standard on the Denali. The Denali also adds navigation, HD radio, a wireless charging pad, and a 4.2-inch color driver display.
• Fuel efficiency: The base four-cylinder gas engine with RWD returns 19 mpg city, 25 highway, 22 combined. With 4WD, it returns 19 mpg city, 24 highway, 21 combined. The gas V6 with RWD returns 18 mpg city, 25 highway, 21 combined, while the V6 4WD test truck returned 17 mpg city, 24 highway, 19 combined. The optional diesel is the efficiency standout, with 20 mpg city, 30 highway, 23 combined in RWD form and 19 mpg city, 28 highway, 22 combined with 4WD.

Which 2021 GMC Canyon trim should I buy?

The 2021 GMC Canyon is offered in 4 trim levels: Elevation Standard, Elevation, AT4, and Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Elevation Standard: This is the entry point, and it gives you the essentials without much extra polish. It’s the trim to consider if you want the lowest-cost way into the Canyon, but it also makes the truck’s basic character most obvious.
• Elevation: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful everyday upgrades like remote start, automatic climate control, a power driver’s seat, and more exterior and interior polish without jumping all the way to the premium end.
• AT4: This is the one to choose if you want the Canyon’s off-road-inspired character. It adds all-terrain tires, skid plates, tow hooks, and off-road suspension, and it can be had with leather seating and heated front seats.
• Denali: This is the most upscale choice, with the richest feature content, the larger infotainment screen, premium audio, heated-and-cooled front seats, and the most complete convenience and towing tech.

The Driver Alert package is standard on the Denali and optional on the other trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 GMC Canyon?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you should shop with a clear target and move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,167 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.29% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,588, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 GMC Canyon's resale value?

The current average of $27,588 sits slightly below last year's $29,758.

That softer pricing suggests the Canyon has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation, which can help if you buy now and plan to resell later. If the market stays steady, a used example purchased near today’s average may have less room to fall than it did a year ago.

Strong owner satisfaction can also help support demand when it’s time to sell. Buyers tend to respond well to trucks with a good reputation for value and features, and this model year fits that pattern.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon safe?

The 2021 GMC Canyon earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and four-star overall ratings from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include a rearview camera, tire pressure monitoring system, front-and-side-impact airbags, traction control, and Teen Driver. The available Driver Alert package adds forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and rear parking alert, and it is standard on the Denali but optional on other trims. The Denali also adds an upgraded HD backup camera and Hitch Guidance.

Should I buy a 2021 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.29% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The refreshed look and new AT4 trim give this year a more modern, more appealing personality.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $29,495, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $27,588 average.
• It adds a new Denali Black Edition package.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and a refreshed look. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year and a small equipment update, the 2022 is the cleaner alternative.
