CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E
overall

Summary
With 469 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,890.00, 39.0% of 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-Es for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
81.2% of 2021 Mustang Mach-E models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
Ford’s first mass-market electric car is designed to make an impression, and the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E does that by pairing an electric SUV body with the Mustang name. It stands out as the first electric vehicle to wear that badge and the first production Mustang model with more than two doors. Ford also positioned it as its first electric car built on a dedicated platform and aimed at a mass audience, which gives it a more serious EV identity than the company’s earlier efforts.
That ambition shows up in the way the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is configured. Buyers choose between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, Standard Range and Extended Range battery packs, and four trim levels: Select, California Route 1, Premium, and GT. The test car described here used the Extended Range battery pack and all-wheel drive, and the First Edition version was said to be identical to the Premium trim aside from cosmetic differences like red brake calipers. Ford’s emphasis on style and sportiness also puts the Mach-E in direct competition with the similarly sized Tesla Model Y, which helps explain why it is aimed at shoppers who want an EV that feels more expressive than purely practical.
The appeal is reinforced by its strengths: stylish design, fun-to-drive character, and impressive electric range. At the same time, the Mach-E is not without drawbacks, and poor ergonomic design is the main criticism noted in the test-drive data. Owner feedback also points to stylish design, impressive performance, and advanced technology as recurring positives, while charging options and some software issues have been concerns for a few drivers.

I bought a Mustang Mach-E premium with all-wheel drive and love it. It’s spectacular to drive; very responsive and of course quiet. The stationary sunroof offsets the medium size cabin and the other amenities make it a pleasure for drivers and The oversized touch screen is wonderful. At less than most Tesla’s the Mach E is a good value.

Absolutely Love This Car! Not our first EV or our first Ford but it’s definitely our favorite of both. Love the aggressive look of the Mach-E compared to other EV’s. Many people I’ve bumped into don’t expect it to be electric. So far it has been incredibly efficient averaging 4-4.9 mi/kWh on the Premium X RWD. The seats are super comfortable and the interior build quality is nice. We are using it as a whole family car and plenty of space for all of us and our 3 kids. Activated the Ford WiFi on day 1 and it handles data of all kids iPads during cruising. My car already has the PAAK update and PAAK works flawlessly. It’s been super hot lately pushing 110-120 degrees and the AC handles the cabin perfectly, the IR reflective coating on the glass roof allows no heat through it keeping the cabin comfortable. Definitely recommend the Mach-E to anyone.

There are 494 listings available, which suggests you should have some room to compare prices and equipment.
If you find a listing below $21,795.27, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E earns a 4.78/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.
Owners consistently praise its stylish design, impressive performance, and advanced technology, and they also call out the comfortable interior and user-friendly features. In practical terms, that means you’re looking at an EV that feels more expressive than purely utilitarian, which fits Ford’s aim of making it a mass-market electric SUV with a sportier personality.
The main trade-off is poor ergonomic design, and the test-drive notes also point to a cabin layout that can feel awkward to use. Even so, the Mach-E’s mix of style, driving enjoyment, and range makes it appealing if you want an EV that stands out from the usual commuter-first formula.
The market backs that up, with 37.9% of listings classified as good or great deals.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner summary also points to a comfortable interior and user-friendly features, while the broader feedback highlights a generally positive ownership experience with only a few concerns around charging options and software issues.
The test-drive notes add that the adaptive cruise control system kept pace with traffic reliably, and its automated lane centering was one of the smoothest experienced in a mainstream-brand vehicle. Ford also includes DC fast charging and a cable for 240-volt home charging, which helps make day-to-day ownership more manageable.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that early software and charging-related frustrations could matter more if the previous owner didn’t keep the car updated and well maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage doesn’t replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on charging behavior, software operation, and how the cabin controls feel in daily use. It’s also worth paying close attention to interior condition and ergonomics, since those are among the model’s more commonly noted drawbacks.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin uses a minimalist design with a massive infotainment touchscreen, a thin rectangular instrument display, and a rotary gear selector. Even the top trim levels use synthetic upholstery rather than leather, and First Edition models mainly add cosmetic touches such as red brake calipers, brushed aluminum pedals, and unique kickplates.
- Powertrain: The base rear-wheel-drive model makes 266 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, while the lower-level all-wheel-drive setup delivers 346 hp and 428 lb-ft. The most potent setup is the AWD GT Performance Edition, with 480 hp and 634 lb-ft.
- Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, reverse sensing, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with automated lane centering, traffic-sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. A 360-degree camera system is standard on higher trim levels, and Active Drive Assist is standard on California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition, but part of a package on Select.
- Infotainment: The Mach-E uses a 15.5-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus over-the-air software update capability. The instrument cluster measures 10.2 inches, and Premium, GT, and First Edition models get a nine-speaker B&O sound system.
- Fuel efficiency: The Standard Range battery pack is rated at 230 miles with rear-wheel drive and 211 miles with all-wheel drive. The Extended Range pack is rated at 300 miles with rear-wheel drive and 270 miles with all-wheel drive. Ford says DC fast charging can take the battery from 10% to 80% in 38 minutes.
Which 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is offered in 4 trim levels: Select, California Route 1, Premium, and GT.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: Select is the entry point, but it’s the one most likely to leave you wanting more because Active Drive Assist is only part of an extra package, and the cabin still uses the same minimalist layout and synthetic materials found elsewhere in the lineup.
- Sweet-spot trim: Premium is the best all-around choice if you want the strongest blend of equipment and everyday appeal, since it sits above the base model and gets the richer audio setup while keeping the Mach-E’s core strengths intact.
- Premium/top trim: GT is the performance-focused choice, adding the most powerful powertrain and the most aggressive hardware, but it makes the most sense if you care more about speed than value.
- Off-road trim: None of the trims is positioned as an off-road choice, so your decision should center on range, performance, and equipment rather than trail use.
Active Drive Assist is standard on California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition, and available on Select as part of a package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 494 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.12% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 83.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,795.27, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E's resale value?
The current average of $23,842 sits slightly below last year's $26,525.
That kind of price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy with less risk of immediate depreciation pressure. If you plan to resell later, the current softness may limit upside in the near term, but it can also make the car easier to move if you buy at the right price. Strong demand for well-liked EVs with good equipment and range can still support resale, especially when the car has broad appeal.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard driver-assistance features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, reverse sensing, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with automated lane centering, traffic-sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. A 360-degree camera system is also standard on higher trim levels, and Active Drive Assist is standard on California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition, while Select gets it only as part of a package.
Because it just launched, crash-test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety aren’t available yet for the Mach-E. That means you should lean more heavily on the standard safety equipment and the trim-level differences when comparing used examples.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.12% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 model is the Mach-E’s first model year, which makes it the starting point for Ford’s dedicated EV platform and its first mass-market electric SUV.
The bottom line: If you want the earliest version of Ford’s electric SUV with strong owner satisfaction, solid inventory, and a lower average price than last year, the 2021 Mach-E is worth a close look. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on listings near the low end of the range and compare equipment carefully, since trim and battery choices make a big difference in value.
