Used 2021 Ford Expedition for Sale nearSan Francisco, CA

How much does the 2021 Ford Expedition cost?

Prices have softened 15.73% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,428 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of inventory to compare on price and condition.

Is the 2021 Ford Expedition a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Ford Expedition earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.0/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, comfort, and strong performance, and they also like how easy it is to drive for such a large SUV. The 360 camera is another recurring plus, especially for a vehicle this size. In use-case terms, it fits you best if you need a full-size SUV for towing, hauling cargo, or carrying passengers on a regular basis.

The main trade-offs are that advanced safety features are not standard and fuel economy is poor. Even so, it remains a practical choice if utility matters more to you than efficiency. Good and great deals account for 37.1% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2021 Ford Expedition reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels spacious, comfortable, and strong in everyday use, with several comments emphasizing how easy it is to live with. That kind of feedback matters when you’re shopping used, because it suggests the Expedition is the sort of SUV people can count on over time.

The expert evaluation also describes it as a competitive alternative for buyers who need a large, useful SUV, and it highlights the Expedition’s strong performance and practical capability. Ford’s first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house. For used buyers, the biggest long-term ownership risk is that a large, heavily used SUV can become expensive if prior maintenance was neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Expedition?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace documentation. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear items, signs of heavy towing use, and overall cabin and cargo-area condition. Because this is a large SUV, you’ll also want to make sure the features you care about are actually present on the specific trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup starts with the XL STX and continues through XLT, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum. The base trim is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add more luxury and convenience equipment.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive or 4WD. Output is 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque in most versions, with the Platinum getting 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights. Starting with Limited trim, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and semi-autonomous parking assistance are available, and a 360-degree surround-view camera is also available.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 uses an 8-inch touchscreen and includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, FordPass Connect services, an available 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, navigation, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The Expedition averaged 17.1 mpg on the evaluation loop, and EPA ratings say the 4WD version should return 19 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2021 Ford Expedition trim should I buy?

The 2021 Ford Expedition is offered in 5 trim levels: XL STX, XLT, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• XL STX: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Expedition’s core space and capability at the lowest starting point, but you should expect the fewest amenities.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday usability while keeping the Expedition’s strong towing and hauling foundation intact.
• Limited: This is the trim to target if you want the available adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, semi-autonomous parking assistance, and the available surround-view camera.
• King Ranch: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay for it.
• Platinum: This is the luxury-focused choice, with the most premium presentation and the strongest engine output in the lineup.

Starting with Limited trim, Ford makes more advanced driver-assistance and parking features available.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Expedition?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,428 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.73% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,561, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Ford Expedition's resale value?

The current average of $30,561 sits slightly below last year's $36,264.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than broad market momentum alone. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Ford Expedition safe?

The 2021 Expedition earns a five-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA, and it earns three-star rollover-resistance ratings with RWD and four-star rollover-resistance ratings with 4WD.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights. Starting with Limited trim, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and semi-autonomous parking assistance are available, and a 360-degree surround-view camera is also available.

One important caveat is that IIHS crash testing was not performed on this SUV, so you do not get that additional benchmark here. The lack of more advanced lane-centering capability is another limitation to keep in mind.

Should I buy a 2021 Ford Expedition or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.73% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It pairs strong towing ability with roomy, comfortable everyday use.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $26,276, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $30,561 average.
• It emphasizes space and capability with three rows and strong towing capacity.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $39,253, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $30,561 average.
• It adds a more distinctive look and stronger overall polish.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and capability, the 2021 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 is the better value play; if you want to spend more for a newer-feeling alternative, the 2022 is the step up to compare.
