Summary

Why it stands out
The 2021 Ford Bronco stands out as a long-awaited return to showrooms, built with a sharp focus on off-road capability and a softer emphasis on comfort. It offers two available powertrains, a choice of manual or automatic transmissions, standard four-wheel drive, clever engineering, and bold styling, giving it a clear identity as a purpose-built off-roader rather than a general-purpose SUV.
That focus pays off in the areas that matter most to buyers looking for adventure. The Bronco’s excellent off-road capability is its biggest strength, and its stylish design and great ride quality add to its appeal. At the same time, it is not trying to hide its compromises: poor fuel economy, noise, and a stereo that is lacking are all part of the package. For shoppers who value capability and character over refinement, the 2021 Ford Bronco makes a strong case for itself.

Love it! Came with the lux package and the heated steering wheel is coming in handy this time of the year. The only thing thats disappointing is the charging pad sucks and I wish it had the auxillary switches for future mods.

How much does the 2021 Ford Bronco cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $36,979 |
| Year-Round Low | $36,977.93 |
| Year-Round High | $40,924.28 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $40,932 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.66% |
Prices have softened 9.66% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,078 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability.
If you find a listing below $36,977.93, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco a good car?
Generally — 4.47/5 from owners and 8.00/10 from our experts, the 2021 Ford Bronco lands well for shoppers who want capability first. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Form and function.
Owners consistently praise its design, smooth ride, and versatility, and many also like the powerful performance and advanced tech features. The Bronco’s strong personality and fun factor come through clearly, especially for buyers who want something more distinctive than a typical SUV.
The trade-offs are just as clear: noise is a recurring complaint, especially from soft tops, and some owners mention roof-fit issues. The expert drive notes also point to poor fuel economy and a stereo that is lacking.
If you’re shopping for a purpose-built off-roader and can live with some refinement compromises, the Bronco fits that brief well. It’s especially appealing if you value character, trail ability, and a strong ownership experience over quiet commuting.
32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco reliable?
Owners rate it 4.47/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a vehicle that feels fun, versatile, and well-liked over time, with many owners describing it as a strong value and a high-performing choice. That kind of response usually lines up with a truck that people feel good about keeping and living with.
The expert drive also describes the Bronco as a capable, well-engineered SUV with a flexible setup and smart electronics, which supports confidence in day-to-day dependability. Ford’s packaging also makes key safety and convenience features available as you move up the trim ladder, which can help you choose a better-equipped version for long-term use.
For used buyers, the main ownership risk is that the Bronco’s rugged design and off-road focus can come with more wear-sensitive components and more variability in how previous owners used it.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Bronco?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because off-road use can leave behind wear that isn’t obvious in photos. A pre-purchase inspection matters here, especially if the truck has been modified or used on trails. Focus on overall condition, roof fit, tire wear, and signs of hard use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Base trim starts with a more basic safety setup, while higher trims can add more equipment through packages. If you want more convenience and driver-assistance content, look beyond the entry model.
- Powertrain: You can choose between a turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four with 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, or an optional twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four with 310 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The 2.3-liter pairs with a seven-speed manual, while the 2.7-liter uses a 10-speed automatic.
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot 360 includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping system, auto high-beam headlamps, and rear-view camera with backup assist grid lines. The High Package adds a 360-degree camera, a forward-sensing system, and side-view mirror LED approach lamps.
- Infotainment: The Bronco uses SYNC 4 with enhanced voice recognition, with an 8-inch standard touchscreen and an available 12-inch screen. Wireless device charging is available with the Lux Package.
- Fuel efficiency: The Bronco is described as having poor fuel economy.
Which 2021 Ford Bronco trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Bronco is offered in 7 trim levels: Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Badlands, Wildtrak, and First Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Base: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Bronco’s core off-road identity at the lowest price. It gets the essentials, but you’ll want to step up if you care about more convenience and safety content.
- Big Bend: This is a smart value choice if you want a better-equipped Bronco without jumping too far up the price ladder. It can add the Mid Package, which brings useful driver-assistance and convenience features.
- Black Diamond: Choose this if you want a more trail-ready setup and still want access to the Mid Package. It’s a good fit if you plan to use the Bronco more seriously off-road.
- Outer Banks: This trim leans more toward comfort and everyday appeal, and it can add the High Package. It suits you if you want a more polished Bronco with more available tech and safety gear.
- Badlands: This is the better pick if off-road capability is your priority and you want access to the High Package. It’s the trim to consider if you want a more serious adventure setup.
- Wildtrak: This is aimed at buyers who want a more capable, more fully equipped Bronco with the High Package available. It makes sense if you want strong off-road intent and more premium content.
- First Edition: This is the most exclusive version and is best if you want the most complete, top-spec Bronco experience. It’s the least value-focused choice, but it stands out for buyers who want the flagship model.
Ford’s package strategy means safety and convenience features become more available as you move up the trim ladder, so higher trims are worth considering if those features matter to you.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Bronco?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,078 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.66% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 89.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $36,977.93, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford Bronco's resale value?
The current average of $36,979 sits slightly below last year's $40,932.
That price movement suggests the Bronco has already given back some value from its earlier level, which can help you as a buyer but may temper near-term resale upside if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the current market is a reminder that condition and equipment will matter a lot when it’s time to list. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than rougher trucks with visible wear.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.47/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford Co-Pilot 360 includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping system, auto high-beam headlamps, and rear-view camera with backup assist grid lines. Higher trims can add a 360-degree camera, a forward-sensing system, and side-view mirror LED approach lamps.
One important caveat is that the Bronco’s removable doors and off-road focus create inherent safety trade-offs, and the safety equipment is packaged rather than fully standard across the lineup. That means you should pay close attention to which trim and package a used example has before you buy.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford Bronco or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.66% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.47/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It marks the Bronco’s long-awaited return with a sharp focus on off-road capability.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $37,947, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $36,979 average.
- It broadens appeal with a deeper roster of models and better pavement manners.
The bottom line: If you want the lower average price and the first year of the modern Bronco’s return, the 2021 is the better value play. If you’re willing to pay more for a broader lineup and a slightly more polished driving experience, the 2022 is the better alternative. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2021 remains the more compelling starting point.
