Is the 2021 Cadillac XT5 a good car?

Yes — you get a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

On the other hand, the expert notes call out a fairly pedestrian performance character and interior materials that can feel cheap. For you, that means the XT5 makes the most sense if you want a polished premium SUV with broad appeal rather than a sport-first luxury crossover.

The XT5’s stop-start system is described as seamless, which supports the sense that the powertrain is easy to live with. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about making sure the specific vehicle was maintained well and equipped the way you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Cadillac XT5?

At 74.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair. It’s also smart to focus on the condition of the interior materials and the operation of the available tech and safety features, since those are part of the XT5’s appeal.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Luxury and Premium Luxury trims emphasize upscale design and standard LED lighting, while the Sport trim adds a more aggressive look and standard AWD.
• Powertrain: The Luxury and Premium Luxury trims come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, while the Premium Luxury can be upgraded to a 3.6-liter V6 and the Sport uses the V6 as standard.
• Safety package: Standard features include front automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert with side blind-zone alert, rear-seat reminder, and a rearview camera. Not all technologies are available in all trim levels.
• Infotainment: The XT5 uses an 8-inch touchscreen, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, Bluetooth, USB-A and USB-C ports, and available 4G LTE WiFi hotspot capability.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 23 mpg combined with FWD and 21 mpg with AWD, while the V6 is estimated at 24 mpg combined without AWD and 21 mpg combined with AWD.

Which 2021 Cadillac XT5 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Cadillac XT5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport.

Here's the short version:

• Luxury: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core XT5 experience with the turbocharged four-cylinder, standard LED lighting, and the upscale design that defines the model. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the XT5 lineup.
• Premium Luxury: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more refined feel and can be upgraded to the V6 if you want stronger performance. It’s the trim that best balances comfort, equipment, and price.
• Sport: Choose this if you want the V6 standard and the more aggressive character that comes with the Sport setup. It suits you best if appearance and a more assertive driving feel matter more than value.

Safety features are not fully standard across all trim levels, so check the equipment list carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Cadillac XT5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and negotiate.

• Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,002 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.10% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,859, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Cadillac XT5's resale value?

The current average of $24,859 sits slightly below last year's $28,280.

That decline suggests the XT5 has become more affordable for buyers, which can help keep demand steady in the near term. For a future seller, that means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than just model-year desirability.

Because the market has already adjusted downward, a well-kept XT5 may be easier to position competitively than one with visible wear or a rough history. Strong presentation matters here, especially if you want to protect value when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Cadillac XT5 safe?

The XT5 earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Its standard safety roster includes front automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert with side blind-zone alert, rear-seat reminder, and a rearview camera. Cadillac also offers Night Vision, which can improve nighttime awareness, and Teen Driver software is standard.

A key caveat is that not all safety technologies are available in every trim level, so you’ll want to confirm exactly what’s fitted on the vehicle you’re considering. The expert notes also make clear that this system is less comprehensive than the driver-assistance suites you’ll find in some rivals.

Should I buy a 2021 Cadillac XT5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines a more refined cabin with easy-to-use technology and broad luxury appeal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $28,428, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $24,859 average.
• It adds Sport-specific Brembo brakes and updated wheel and paint choices.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because pricing has softened and the market offers plenty of inventory. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly newer version with a few trim updates, the 2022 is the cleaner alternative.
