How much does the 2021 BMW X7 cost?

Prices have softened 13.88% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,148 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 BMW X7 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 BMW X7 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the X7 for its impressive driving experience, luxurious interior, and spaciousness. The user feedback also points to strong power and performance, which lines up with the X7’s role as a large luxury three-row SUV that emphasizes driving enjoyment as much as family utility.

The trade-offs are clear too: the ride can be unsettled by body motions, and advanced safety features are not standard. In practical terms, you’re looking at a luxury SUV that fits buyers who want a premium, spacious, and engaging three-row vehicle, while accepting that some desirable equipment is reserved for higher-spec versions or packages.

Good and great deals account for 39.1% of listings, so there’s meaningful room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 BMW X7 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe the X7 as impressive, luxurious, and spacious, and they also highlight its power and performance in everyday use. The expert review adds that BMW’s free scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles helps reduce early ownership costs, which is a useful perk if you’re planning to keep the SUV for a while.

The overall ownership picture suggests a premium SUV that should reward careful buyers, but you should still pay close attention to maintenance history and electronics condition on any used example.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW X7?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on every candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-mileage or heavily optioned examples. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior damage, and whether the equipment you want is actually present, since some desirable features are tied to packages or higher trims.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The X7 lineup includes the xDrive40i, M50i, and Alpina XB7. The xDrive40i is the entry point, while the Alpina XB7 gets many of the most decadent features, so base-trim shoppers should check carefully for feature gaps.
• Powertrain: The xDrive40i uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, and BMW also offers a performance-tuned Alpina XB7. The lineup gives you both efficiency-minded and high-output choices.
• Safety package: BMW’s Active Driving Assistant Pro adds evasive-steering assist, traffic-jam assist, lane-control assist, and emergency stop assist. The Parking Assistance Package adds semi-automated parallel parking assist, a surround-view camera, and a drive recorder system.
• Infotainment: The X7 uses a 12.3-inch display for both the digital instrument cluster and iDrive 7.0 infotainment, with navigation, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, wireless smartphone charging, and over-the-air-style connected services through BMW’s connected package features.
• Fuel efficiency: The xDrive40i is rated at 19 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, with 21 mpg combined.

Which 2021 BMW X7 trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW X7 is offered in 3 trim levels: xDrive40i, M50i, Alpina XB7.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive40i: This is the best-value choice if you want the core X7 experience with the 48-volt mild-hybrid turbocharged inline-six, strong power, and the same upscale cabin and technology foundation as the rest of the lineup.
• M50i: This trim is the step-up choice for buyers who want more performance and a stronger engine without jumping all the way to the most expensive model.
• Alpina XB7: This is the top-end pick if you want the most exclusive and most decadent version of the X7, with the most performance-focused character and the richest equipment mix.

BMW’s safety tech is standard except for the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package and Parking Assistance Package, so check whether a used example has those features if they matter to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 BMW X7?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 39.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,148 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.88% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $35,363, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW X7's resale value?

The current average of $35,363 sits slightly below last year's $41,061.

That kind of price movement suggests the market has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range and keep the SUV in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 BMW X7 safe?

The 2021 BMW X7 earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW makes its safety technologies standard, except for the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package and Parking Assistance Package. The Driving Assistance Professional Package adds Active Driving Assistant Pro, which includes evasive-steering assist, traffic-jam assist, lane-control assist, and emergency stop assist, while the Parking Assistance Package adds semi-automated parallel parking assist, a surround-view camera, and a drive recorder system.

The expert review also notes that the system is generally accurate, smooth, and trustworthy, though lane-maintenance behavior can be reactive in some situations and automated lane changes can feel abrupt. If you want the most advanced driver assistance features, make sure the used X7 you’re considering has the right package installed.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW X7 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 39.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model adds a 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrain to the standard xDrive40i and introduces the Alpina XB7, giving you a broader mix of efficiency and performance than before.

The bottom line: If you want the X7 with updated powertrain choices and a softer used-market price, the 2021 is the smart target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and focus on the lower end of the range, but the 2021’s combination of strong owner satisfaction, solid inventory, and improved lineup makes it the primary year to consider.
