How much does the 2021 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 10.00% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,281 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2021 BMW X3 a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 4.8/5, and the expert rating is 7.5/10. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable seats, smooth ride, and strong performance, and they also like the power from the engine. For shoppers who want an upscale, versatile crossover with a bit more engagement than many rivals, that lines up well with the X3’s spacious interior and broad technology offering. The main trade-off is that it sits on the expensive end of the segment, and some owners wish interior storage were better and more features were standard.

With 38.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 BMW X3 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with comfort and smooth operation standing out over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes solid driving dynamics and a well-rounded package, which supports the sense that this is a crossover you can count on for regular commuting and family duty. BMW’s standard equipment list also helps reduce the need to chase options just to get core usability.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is paying extra for a premium SUV that may have been optioned unevenly or maintained inconsistently.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW X3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-mileage examples or vehicles with more complex option packages. Focus on overall condition, feature operation, and evidence of careful maintenance rather than just the badge or trim name.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The sDrive30i and xDrive30i come with 18-inch alloy wheels, push-button start, synthetic leather upholstery, tri-zone climate control, a 10.2-inch infotainment system, navigation, and 10-way power-adjustable front seats. The M40i adds many of the optional comfort features as standard, plus 19-inch alloy wheels, 14-way power-adjustable front seats, unique exterior styling, and an M Sport suspension.
• Powertrain: The sDrive30i and xDrive30i use a turbocharged four-cylinder with 248 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The xDrive30e plug-in hybrid makes 288 hp and offers 17 miles of electric-only range. The M40i uses a 382-hp twin-turbo inline-six for much stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors. Adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, headlights that bend with the road, and a head-up display are optional.
• Infotainment: You get a standard 10.2-inch touchscreen with iDrive, Apple CarPlay, and optional Android Auto. Wireless device charging, a fully digital instrument panel, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon stereo, and gesture control are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The xDrive30e plug-in hybrid returns 30 MPGe in electric mode and 24 mpg combined in hybrid mode. The sDrive30i returns 25 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined, while the xDrive30i returns 23 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined.

Which 2021 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW X3 is offered in 4 trim levels: sDrive30i, xDrive30i, M40i, and xDrive30e plug-in hybrid.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive30i: This is the entry point, and it already gives you the core X3 experience with the standard touchscreen, navigation, tri-zone climate control, and a strong list of safety features. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable with rear-wheel drive.
• xDrive30i: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds all-wheel drive while keeping the same basic equipment and everyday usability. If you want the most balanced version for all-weather confidence, this is the trim to focus on.
• xDrive30e plug-in hybrid: Choose this if you want the most efficient version and like the idea of short electric-only driving. It suits buyers who can regularly charge at home or work.
• M40i: This is the performance pick, with the 382-hp inline-six, more aggressive styling, and a sportier suspension setup. It’s the one to buy if driving enjoyment matters most and you’re willing to pay more for it.

The standard safety package is strong across the lineup, but some advanced driver-assistance features remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 BMW X3?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.

• Deal availability: 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,281 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.00% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,990, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $24,070 sits slightly below last year's $26,744.

That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price more competitively than owners did a year ago. If you buy well now, you may have less downside exposure than someone who paid closer to the prior average. Strong condition and desirable equipment should matter more when it’s time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 BMW X3 safe?

The X3 comes standard with advanced driver-assistance features such as automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

That standard suite gives you a strong baseline for everyday driving, and optional upgrades include adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, headlights that bend with the road, and a head-up display. The main caveat is that some of the more advanced convenience and assistance features are still optional rather than standard.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.00% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• BMW adds more standard safety features and newly available in-car tech this year.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $28,451, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $24,070 average.
• It adds a mid-cycle refresh with new engines, more technology, and expanded safety features.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better value if you want a well-equipped luxury compact SUV at a lower price and can live without the later refresh. If you’re willing to spend more for updated styling and added tech, the 2022 is the stronger upgrade path.
