CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Acura RDX
overall

Summary
With 1,238 currently listed for sale and an average price of $27,950.00, 34.9% of 2021 Acura RDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Acura RDX 4.69 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
80.4% of 2021 RDX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Acura RDX stands out as a compact luxury crossover SUV that aims to balance size, utility, quality, safety, technology, performance, and value in one appealing package. It also reflects Acura’s broader redesign direction, with the brand’s latest exterior styling and interior design philosophies and the rethought True Touch Interface infotainment system helping define the third-generation RDX. Acura’s positioning of the model as the bestselling vehicle in its segment and one of the bestselling luxury vehicles in America adds to its appeal.
Behind the wheel, the 2021 Acura RDX is notable for its great handling, and it is also described as comfortable. Those strengths help explain why it can feel both engaging and easy to live with. At the same time, the technology is described as unintuitive, and cargo space is limited, so buyers who prioritize user-friendly controls or maximum utility may want to weigh those tradeoffs carefully.
Owners generally echo that mix of strengths, praising the 2021 Acura RDX for its value, comfort, and fun driving experience. They also frequently mention the spacious interior and stylish design, which reinforce its upscale, practical character. Some drivers, however, have been disappointed by fuel economy and the audio system’s performance, particularly the way noise-canceling technology affects sound quality.

Confident, quick, and clean — the right move I bought a 2021 Acura RDX A-Spec after a long stretch of research, quotes, and test drives. Came from a 2015 Mazda6—solid, efficient—but I was ready for something with more presence and power. The RDX gave me that without stepping into overpriced territory. The turbo delivers. Paired with the 10-speed, it moves when I need it, cruises when I don’t. Sport mode plus paddles gives just enough edge without trying too hard. The ride feels tight and grounded, and the A-Spec trim looks clean and confident—no chrome, no fluff. Inside, it’s a clear step up. Ultrasuede, ambient lighting, panoramic roof—it feels elevated, not loud. The ELS Studio sound system is better than I expected, no exaggeration. Fuel economy is lower than my old Mazda. I’m averaging 23–24 mpg mixed, which is fair for an AWD turbo, but it’s a drop. I expected it, but it’s worth noting. The button shifter is fine, but the tray underneath it is a catch-and-forget zone. I’ve left my phone in there more than once because of how tucked away it is. Not a flaw, just an adjustment. Same with the seat moving back when I shut the car off. Lighting fades, dash does a little goodbye animation. I’ve never had a car do all that before. It’s subtle, but now I notice. No issues with the infotainment or CarPlay. I plug in, it works. I’m not paying extra for AcuraLink remote start when the fob does the job just fine. Overall, this RDX feels like a clean step forward. It’s fast when I want it, quiet when I need it, and doesn’t feel like it’s trying to impress anyone. It just handles its business. I’d buy it again.

Great pick up speed and acceleration for an SUV, love the AWD

This car gets high marks for interior design, efficient use of space and comfort. On the other hand fuel economy is pretty poor considering vehicle size and throttle response. What is really disappointing is the impact of the noise canceling technology on the ability of the paying customer to control the sound of the audio system. If you want more bass tones you are out of luck. The more you turn the bass up the more the system cancels it out and the worse it sounds. Acura should just build a quiet car to begin with and not rely on electronic mumbo jumbo.

We decided between Lexus and Acura. Though Lexus scores just above in reliability and ease of tech features we chose the Acura RDX. The Lexus RX was too big and the NX too small for our needs and the Acura RDX was just the right in between size of those two cars. It has very good trunk space with even more storage underneath. There are levers in the trunk to let down the seats (a feature missing on the Lexus, if you are not tall you have to go to the backseat to let them down.) The seats also lay flat as opposed to quite an angle on the Lexus. The passenger seat on the Acura has all the same power comfort adjustments as the driver seat, we couldn’t find one Lexus with that, not even on the luxury trim. Acura also makes is easy to know what is in the car because all their trim levels have a sameset of features so looking for a used car was much easier than Lexus because though Lexus has trim levels customers can add on individual features that don’t come on the trim so you never know if what you are looking for is on the car . Even at the luxury level we could not find an NX with 360 view or Heads-up. I am sure they are out there just pretty hard to find. On the Acura we knew the Advanced package always had those features so it made looking easier. I also like that Acura has left the dead space underneath the console open for a bit more storage space, you can fit a small purse there. Dead space on the Lexus. So for those reasons we chose the Acura over the Lexus. However they are both very nice cars and I will say all the Lexus Dealerships we went to were superior in their customer service! We just liked the Acura car better.

How much does the 2021 Acura RDX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $27,977 |
| Year-Round Low | $26,965.15 |
| Year-Round High | $28,935.32 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $28,761 |

Prices have softened 2.73% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,269 listings available, which suggests you have room to compare options before making a move.
If you find a listing below $26,965.15, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Acura RDX a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Acura RDX earns a 4.69/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Cost effectiveness.
Owners consistently praise its value, comfort, and fun driving experience, and they also frequently call out the spacious interior and stylish design. Those strengths line up with the RDX’s role as a compact luxury crossover that aims to balance utility, quality, safety, technology, performance, and value.
The trade-offs are clear: the technology is described as unintuitive, and cargo space is limited. That means you may like this RDX most if you want an upscale daily driver with strong road manners and a premium feel, but you should be less enthusiastic if easy controls or maximum utility are your top priorities.
With 34.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you a decent chance to find a strong-value example.
Is the 2021 Acura RDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.69/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable and trouble-free in everyday use, with praise centered on its value, comfort, and enjoyable driving experience. That kind of response usually matters most when you’re trying to judge how a used luxury SUV will hold up over time.
The expert evaluation also supports that impression by describing the RDX’s systems as smooth, accurate, and more refined than some of Acura’s other offerings. Acura also includes the first scheduled maintenance visit as part of the ownership experience.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about basic durability and more about living with the technology and making sure the specific vehicle has been cared for properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Acura RDX?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the infotainment system, interior condition, and any signs of hard use. Since this model’s strengths are comfort, style, and driving enjoyment, you’ll want to make sure the example you choose still feels tight, clean, and well maintained.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Base versions miss blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, so you should confirm whether those features matter to you before choosing a lower trim.
- Powertrain: Every version uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic; SH-AWD improves handling and is money well spent if you want the best driving feel.
- Safety package: AcuraWatch includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking, but blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert require at least the Technology Package.
- Infotainment: The True Touchpad Interface does not use a touchscreen, and it can be distracting until you adapt to it; the system is built around a touch-sensing pad rather than direct screen input.
- Fuel efficiency: The expert data does not provide mpg figures.
Which 2021 Acura RDX trim should I buy?
The 2021 Acura RDX is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Technology Package, A-Spec Package, Advance Package.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: It gives you the core RDX experience, but it lacks blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, so it is the least complete choice on safety convenience.
- Sweet-spot trim: The Technology Package is the best value step-up because it adds the missing blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert without pushing you all the way to the pricier upper trims.
- Premium/top trim: The Advance Package is the most fully equipped choice, adding the extras buyers expect from a luxury SUV and pairing best with the most comfort-focused use case.
The safety-package note to remember is that AcuraWatch is standard, but the blind-spot warning system and rear cross-traffic alert require at least the Technology Package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Acura RDX?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,269 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.73% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 80.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,965.15, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Acura RDX's resale value?
The current average of $27,977 sits slightly below last year's $28,761.
That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number today. If you pay close to the lower end of the range, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell. Strong demand also helps support resale, especially for a luxury crossover with broad appeal.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.69/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Acura RDX safe?
The SUV earned a 2020 calendar-year Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it gets five-star overall ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It also earns four-star frontal-impact and four-star rollover resistance crash-test ratings from the NHTSA.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
AcuraWatch is standard on every 2021 RDX and includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. The catch is that blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are not standard, so you need to move up to the Technology Package at minimum to get them.
That means the RDX has strong crash-test credentials and a solid active-safety foundation, but you should pay close attention to trim choice if you want the most useful everyday driver-assistance features.
Should I buy a 2021 Acura RDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.73% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.69/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines strong handling with a refined, upscale cabin and standard AcuraWatch safety tech.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $25,041, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $27,977 average.
- It delivers strong value with lots of content for the money.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $31,667, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $27,977 average.
- It adds fresh styling, a quieter cabin, and more equipment.
The bottom line: You should start with the 2021 if you want the best balance of price, safety, and driving enjoyment in this group. If your priority is saving money above all else, the 2020 is the better value play. If you want newer updates and are willing to pay more, the 2022 is the step-up choice.
