Used 2020 Volvo XC90 for Sale nearSaint Louis, MO

How much does the 2020 Volvo XC90 cost?

Prices have softened 14.69% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,081 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for used shoppers.

Is the 2020 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Volvo XC90 earns a 4.6/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the stylish design, premium interior materials, comfortable driving experience, spacious interior, and enhanced safety. That lines up well with the XC90’s role as a three-row family hauler for buyers who want something more upscale than a typical utility vehicle.

The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and an underwhelming base engine. If you want comfort, refinement, and safety more than quick acceleration, the XC90 fits that use case well.

34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with repeated praise for comfort, features, spaciousness, and safety. That kind of feedback usually matters most when you’re shopping a used family SUV, because it suggests the XC90 is the sort of vehicle owners feel good about living with over time.

The expert review also describes the XC90 as a comfortable, quiet, and well-built SUV that’s designed to be easy to live with. Volvo’s scheduled maintenance coverage for the first 3 years or 36,000 miles adds some ownership reassurance.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a premium European SUV can be costly if prior maintenance was skipped.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Volvo XC90?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on maintenance history, electronics, and overall cabin condition. Since this is a luxury family SUV, you’ll also want to pay close attention to wear on seats, trim, and any signs that the vehicle was heavily used.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model is front-wheel drive with the smaller T5 engine, while higher trims add better interior materials, more tech, and all-wheel drive.
• Powertrain: Three powertrains are available, all using a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 with an 8-speed automatic transmission; the T5 makes 250 horsepower, the T6 adds a supercharger and all-wheel drive for 316 horsepower, and the T8 plug-in hybrid delivers 400 horsepower with up to 18 gas-free miles.
• Safety package: Volvo Pilot Assist comes standard, combining adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist; standard safety equipment also includes forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, a driver-attention monitor, blind-spot monitoring, and traffic-sign recognition.
• Infotainment: The portrait-oriented touchscreen is high-resolution and easy to use, but onboard apps can be slow to load; the system also supports location sharing, voice memos, Spotify, and other media apps.
• Fuel efficiency: The T5 AWD is rated at 20/27/23 mpg, the T6 AWD at 18/26/21 mpg, and the T8 plug-in hybrid can travel up to 18 gas-free miles before relying on gasoline.

Which 2020 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2020 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, Inscription.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the entry point, but the base setup is the one the review says you should largely disregard if you want the XC90 at its best.
• R-Design: This trim adds a more aggressive look, blacked-out exterior details, and a sportier cabin treatment, making it the best-value choice if you want style and a richer feel without going all the way to the top.
• Inscription: This is the most upscale choice, with matte wood trim and wool fabric seats available, so it suits you best if cabin luxury matters most.

Volvo Pilot Assist and the core safety equipment come standard, so even lower trims start with a strong safety foundation.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Volvo XC90?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,081 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.69% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,444, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $22,444 sits slightly below last year's $26,310.

That price movement suggests the XC90 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilizes. If you buy at today’s average or below, you may have less downside left than a shopper who bought when prices were higher. Strong condition and a clean history will matter even more if you want to protect value later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2020 Volvo XC90 earns Top Safety Pick recognition from IIHS and top scores from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Volvo Pilot Assist comes standard, and the XC90 also includes forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, a driver-attention monitor, blind-spot monitoring, and traffic-sign recognition. That gives you a strong standard safety package right from the start.

The main caveat is that IIHS headlight testing keeps it from earning the plus designation. Even so, the XC90 remains one of the strongest safety-focused choices in its class.

Should I buy a 2020 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.69% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 keeps the XC90’s modern redesign, premium cabin, and standard Pilot Assist.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $26,091, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,444 average.
• It adds Care Key and a handful of newly standard tech features.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter starting point because it already delivers the XC90’s core strengths at a lower average price. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly newer model with a few extra standard features, the 2021 is the cleaner upgrade path.
