Used 2020 Volvo XC90 for Sale nearMinneapolis, MN

How much does the 2020 Volvo XC90 cost?

Prices have softened 15.33% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,070 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and conditions.

Is the 2020 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Volvo XC90 earns a 4.6/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the stylish design, comfortable driving experience, spacious interior, and enhanced safety. That lines up well with the XC90’s role as a three-row family hauler that feels more premium than a typical utility vehicle.

The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and an underwhelming base engine. If you want comfort, refinement, and safety more than quick acceleration, the XC90 fits that use case well.

With 38.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for comfort, features, and the sense that the XC90 is a vehicle you can count on. The expert review also reinforces that impression by describing the XC90 as a family shuttle built around Volvo’s long safety focus and a polished, well-developed design.

It also comes with 3 years or 36,000 miles of scheduled maintenance plus 4 years of Volvo On Call telematics, which can help reduce early ownership hassle. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the vehicle has been maintained properly, since luxury-SUV upkeep can become expensive if prior care was inconsistent.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Volvo XC90?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean title alone does not tell you how well the SUV was maintained. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin, electronics, and suspension, and pay close attention to whether the vehicle feels as refined as the XC90’s premium reputation suggests.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model is front-wheel drive with the smaller T5 engine, while better-equipped versions add the more powerful engine, all-wheel drive, and richer interior materials.
• Powertrain: Three powertrains are available, all using a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 with an 8-speed automatic transmission; the T5 makes 250 horsepower, the T6 adds a supercharger and all-wheel drive for 316 horsepower, and the T8 plug-in hybrid delivers 400 horsepower with up to 18 gas-free miles.
• Safety package: Volvo Pilot Assist comes standard, combining adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist, and the XC90 also includes forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, a driver-attention monitor, blind-spot monitoring, and traffic-sign recognition.
• Infotainment: The portrait-oriented touchscreen is high-resolution and easy to use, and the system includes onboard apps, though they can be slow to load.
• Fuel efficiency: The T6 AWD is rated at 18 mpg city, 26 highway, and 21 combined, while the T5 AWD is rated at 20 city, 27 highway, and 23 combined; the T8 plug-in hybrid is rated at 27 mpg combined once the battery depletes.

Which 2020 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2020 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the entry point, but the base setup is the least compelling because the front-wheel-drive T5 and simpler equipment are the versions the review suggests skipping if you want the XC90 at its best.
• R-Design: This is the style-forward choice, with blacked-out exterior details, more aggressive trim, and a sportier cabin presentation. It suits you if you want the most distinctive look.
• Inscription: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it brings the richer interior materials, including matte wood trim and wool fabric seats, along with the more upscale feel the XC90 is known for.

Volvo Pilot Assist and the core safety equipment come standard, so you do not need to move up a trim for the main driver-assistance suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Volvo XC90?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 38.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,070 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.33% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,209, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $22,209 sits slightly below last year's $26,231.

That price movement suggests the XC90 has become more accessible to used buyers, which can help demand from shoppers who want a premium three-row SUV without paying new-car money. For a future seller, the softer market means you may need to price competitively to stand out.

Even so, the XC90’s strong safety reputation and upscale cabin help support long-term appeal. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Volvo XC90 safe?

The XC90 earns top scores from both NHTSA and IIHS, though IIHS rates it a Top Safety Pick rather than a Top Safety Pick+ because of the headlight test.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Volvo Pilot Assist comes standard, and the XC90 also includes forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, a driver-attention monitor, blind-spot monitoring, and traffic-sign recognition. That gives you a strong standard safety package even before you consider Volvo’s long-standing crash-safety reputation.

Should I buy a 2020 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 38.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 XC90 continues the current-generation formula with stylish design, premium materials, and strong safety credentials.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,878, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,209 average.
• It adds Care Key and a handful of newly standard tech features.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because it delivers the XC90’s core strengths at a lower average price. If you are willing to pay more for a few extra convenience and tech updates, the 2021 is the cleaner upgrade path.
