How much does the 2020 Toyota Tacoma cost?

Prices have softened 1.62% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,178 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — the 2020 Toyota Tacoma earns 4.3/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Safety.

Drivers repeatedly praise its reliability, performance, and design, and many also value its practicality and strong off-road capability. In use, that lines up with the Tacoma’s rugged, old-school character and its appeal as a truck that prioritizes toughness and familiarity over polish.

The trade-offs are clear: the cabin materials feel cheap, and the base engine is underwhelming. Even so, if you want a midsize pickup with a proven truck feel and a strong off-road identity, the Tacoma fits that use case well.

With 31.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to reliability, and drivers also describe the Tacoma as practical and capable of handling daily use with confidence. The expert notes reinforce that dependable, long-haul character by emphasizing the truck’s rugged build and off-road durability.

The Tacoma’s straightforward design and proven mechanical setup should appeal if you want something you can count on over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is paying for capability and reputation while accepting some rough edges in refinement and equipment.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Tacoma?

At 66.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, frame condition, and signs of hard use. Because this truck is often bought for capability, it’s smart to focus on how it was maintained and whether any off-road wear shows up in the suspension, underbody, or cabin.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tacoma’s trims range from the straightforward SR and SR5 to the more capable TRD models and the Limited. The base setup is the least equipped, while the higher trims add more comfort, technology, and off-road hardware.
• Powertrain: The 2.7-liter four-cylinder makes 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, while the 3.5-liter V6 produces 278 hp and 265 lb-ft. The V6 is the stronger choice, and the truck can be had with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard driver aids include adaptive cruise control, forward-emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and parking sensors are optional.
• Infotainment: A 7-inch touchscreen is standard, while an 8-inch unit with navigation is available. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa come standard, and wireless phone charging and onboard Wi-Fi are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The inline-four returns 20 mpg city and 23 mpg highway, while the V6 returns 18 mpg city and 22 mpg highway.

Which 2020 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 4 trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD Off Road, TRD Sport.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest starting cost and can live with the most basic equipment. It’s the trim most likely to feel stripped down, especially compared with the better-equipped versions.
• SR5: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday usability without pushing you into the pricier off-road-focused models. If you want a Tacoma that feels more complete without overbuying, this is the one to focus on.
• TRD Off Road: Choose this if you want the Tacoma’s off-road hardware and capability to be the main reason you buy the truck. It’s the better fit if trail use matters more than comfort or appearance.
• TRD Sport: Pick this if you want a more road-oriented Tacoma with a little more style and a less specialized feel than the off-road model. It’s a good middle ground if you like the Tacoma’s character but don’t need the full trail focus.

Standard advanced safety features are part of the Tacoma’s appeal, while blind-spot monitoring and parking sensors remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Tacoma?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right truck.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,178 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.62% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,297, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $30,312 sits slightly below last year's $30,811.

That modest decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy with less pressure today. For a future seller, the current pricing pattern points to a truck that still holds value reasonably well, even if it isn’t appreciating.

The Tacoma’s strong owner satisfaction also supports demand on the used market. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The 2020 Toyota Tacoma earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick rating and four-star ratings from NHTSA, with four stars for both front passengers in frontal tests and four stars for the front seats in side barrier and pole tests, plus five-star ratings for rear passengers.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward-emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and parking sensors are optional, so you may need to shop a higher trim or add equipment if you want a fuller safety package.

The lower Acceptable result in the small overlap test is the main caveat to keep in mind. That makes it worth paying close attention to the Tacoma’s crash-test profile if safety is a top priority for your used-truck search.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 brings useful design and technology updates while keeping the Tacoma’s rugged, dependable off-road character.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $28,976, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $30,312 average.
• It emphasizes raw honesty and a loyal following.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,052, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $30,312 average.
• It adds two special editions and standard dual-zone climate control on V6 models.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the right pick if you want the Tacoma’s familiar formula with a few worthwhile updates and a broad used-market selection. If price matters most, the 2019 is the better value play; if you want a slightly newer truck and can spend more, the 2021 is the next step up.
