Used 2020 Toyota Highlander for Sale nearSaint Paul, MN

How much does the 2020 Toyota Highlander cost?

Prices have softened 4.30% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,349 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Toyota Highlander a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota Highlander earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, advanced features, and spacious interior, and the review summary also points to strong family appeal and a comfortable, easygoing driving experience. The overview reinforces that this is the Highlander for you if you want a three-row SUV that feels calm, premium, and relaxed rather than sporty.

The trade-offs are clear: the styling is uninspired, handling is poor, and the front seats and interior materials draw some criticism from owners. Even so, the Highlander’s comfort-first mission makes sense if you value a quiet daily driver over driving excitement.

With 35.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Toyota Highlander reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with buyers repeatedly highlighting the Highlander’s smooth ride, advanced features, and family-friendly usability. The expert evaluation also emphasizes its calm, isolated driving character and the sense that it’s built to make long trips feel easy and low-stress.

Toyota includes two years of maintenance and roadside assistance, which helps reduce early ownership friction. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about finding a well-kept example that hasn’t been worn down by family use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Highlander?

At 70.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and interior condition. Because this model is often used as a family hauler, pay close attention to wear on seats, trim, and high-touch surfaces, along with signs of uneven maintenance.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Every trim except the base L has projector-beam LED headlights and fog lights, while the Limited and Platinum add prettier LED running lamps and 20-inch wheels. The cabin quality is strongest on the upper trims, which feel notably more upscale.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-liter V6 with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, paired with an eight-speed automatic. It delivers smooth, brisk acceleration and very quiet operation.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and rear emergency braking are optional.
• Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen is standard, and a 12.3-inch screen is available on higher trims. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM, HD radio, WiFi, and four USB-A ports are standard.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD model is rated at 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined, while AWD returns 20/27/23.

Which 2020 Toyota Highlander trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Highlander is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, Limited, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, but it misses some of the nicer exterior and cabin touches found higher up the range. It makes sense only if you want the lowest starting price.
• LE: This is the best-value trim. It sits in the low $40,000 range and gives you the strongest balance of equipment and price.
• XLE: This is the trim to target if you want a more complete family SUV without jumping to luxury-like pricing.
• Limited: This trim brings a more upscale cabin and more of the premium feel that defines the Highlander.
• Platinum: This is the most luxurious version, with the richest interior presentation and the most premium equipment.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, so you get the core safety suite even on the lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Highlander?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,349 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.30% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,946, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Highlander's resale value?

The current average of $27,468 sits slightly below last year's $28,703.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and trim than on broad market momentum.

Well-kept examples with strong equipment and clean history should hold up better than average, especially because family buyers tend to value comfort, safety, and space. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Highlander safe?

The 2020 Toyota Highlander earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, and it includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. A driver’s knee airbag and a special cushion airbag for the front passenger are also standard.

Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and rear emergency braking are optional, so you may want to prioritize a better-equipped trim if those features matter to you. The IIHS result is strong, but the optional-headlights note means equipment choice still matters.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.30% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 redesign emphasizes a quieter ride, a more premium cabin, and a Lexus-like feel without the luxury badge.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $29,618, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $27,468 average.
• Toyota adds more standard safety-feature technology.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because it already delivers the comfort-first redesign and a softer market price. If you’re willing to pay more for added standard safety tech, the 2021 is the cleaner upgrade path.
