CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Tesla Model X

Summary
With 302 currently listed for sale and an average price of $36,104, 30.5% of 2020 Tesla Model Xs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Tesla Model X 4.62 / 5 stars.
78.5% of 2020 Model X models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Tesla Model X stands out as a large, all-electric midsize crossover with seating for up to seven passengers and the distinctive Falcon Wing rear doors that open upward instead of outward. It is based on the same platform as the Tesla Model S and shares about 30% of its content with that sedan, which helps explain why it arrived with a strong mix of range, performance, and advanced technology. For buyers who want an EV that can serve as a family vehicle, the Model X’s size, available seating layouts, and extra cargo space are central parts of its appeal.
For 2020, Tesla added features such as Smart Summon and made adaptive air suspension standard. The Model X also offered a 17-inch infotainment touchscreen, a panoramic glass roof, a frunk for extra storage, navigation with real-time traffic updates, free charging using Tesla’s Supercharger network, LED headlights, keyless entry, power Falcon doors, and a power liftgate. Standard dual-motor all-wheel drive, strong acceleration, and the availability of Enhanced Autopilot reinforced its tech-forward character, while the user feedback points to performance, customization, luxury features, and Autopilot as especially appealing.
There are tradeoffs, though. The Model X does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and the Falcon Wing doors can be tricky in tight spaces. Owners also commonly mention high pricing and some build-quality concerns, including body alignment issues. Even so, the 2020 Model X remains distinctive for combining long-range electric capability, family-friendly packaging, and a level of technology that still feels ambitious.

How much does the 2020 Tesla Model X cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $36,124 |
| Year-Round Low | $33,617 |
| Year-Round High | $36,164 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $35,136 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +2.81% |
Prices are up 2.81% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 305 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2020 Tesla Model X a good car?
Yes — the 4.62/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the performance and technology, and they also highlight the customization options and luxury features. For you, that means this model year fits especially well if you want a family-friendly EV with seating for up to seven passengers and a strong tech-forward appeal. With 30.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Tesla Model X reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience in the areas that matter most to many used buyers, especially performance, technology, and the ability to count on the vehicle for daily use. At the same time, the reviews mention some minor quality issues, so you should expect reliability to be tied not just to the drivetrain but also to how well the individual vehicle has been maintained and assembled. For a used buyer, that means long-term ownership risk is best managed by focusing on condition and documentation before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Tesla Model X?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 78% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should start with the history report so you can confirm accident status and spot any red flags before you get too far into the process. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of body alignment and panel fit, since owners commonly mention minor quality issues. You should also pay close attention to overall condition, especially on a vehicle with advanced features and complex doors that can be more sensitive to wear or prior damage.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Tesla Model X?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 305 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.81% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 78.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $33,617, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Tesla Model X's resale value?
The current average of $36,124 sits slightly above last year's $35,136.
That upward move suggests the market has held value reasonably well for this model year, which can help if you plan to sell later. A price trend like this usually signals steady buyer interest rather than a softening market, so you may have a better chance of preserving value if you buy a well-kept example. Strong condition and a clean history matter even more when you want to protect resale value over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Tesla Model X or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 78% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.81% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a used Model X with strong owner satisfaction, solid inventory, and a distinctive family-EV package, the 2020 is a sensible primary target. If your priority is stretching your budget, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on whichever one gives you the best combination of condition, history, and asking price.
