Used 2020 Subaru Outback for Sale nearDayton, OH

How much does the 2020 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 6.74% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,684 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Subaru Outback earns a 4.95/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, spacious cabin, and safety-focused feel, and they also highlight its smooth ride and strong overall practicality. The Outback’s wagon-like shape and everyday usefulness make it a good fit if you want space and traction without moving into a more conventional SUV. The main trade-offs are the sluggish touchscreen response and the underwhelming base engine, so it suits you best if you value utility and value over quick tech response or brisk acceleration.

Good and great deals account for 35.4% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.95/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for comfort, safety, and the kind of long-term confidence that makes the Outback easy to live with. The expert notes also emphasize Subaru’s all-time symmetrical all-wheel drive and the way the drivetrain is tuned to feel settled and predictable in daily use. The cost-effectiveness notes add that the Outback offers a lot of car for the money, which helps ownership feel reassuring from a value standpoint.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core hardware and more about whether the tech and driver-monitoring features have aged well or been used carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the infotainment system, since the touchscreen response is a known weak point. It also makes sense to focus on overall condition and feature operation, especially if you want a trim with more advanced equipment.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 2.5i is the most stripped-down version, with dual 7-inch screens instead of the larger tablet-style display, and it can feel spartan compared with higher trims. Premium adds the 11.6-inch touchscreen and more comfort features, while Limited and Touring bring more upscale equipment. The Onyx Edition XT stands out with its more rugged character and added off-road-oriented hardware.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-liter engine in the lower trims and a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine in the XT models. The base engine is efficient and adequate for most driving, while the turbo is the better choice if you want stronger passing power or plan to tow.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keep alert and assist. Blind-spot monitoring is not standard on Premium, and some features move up the trim ladder.
• Infotainment: Most trims use an 11.6-inch touchscreen, while the base trim gets dual 7-inch screens. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are included, but the system is known for lag.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine returns 26 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.

Which 2020 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2020 Subaru Outback is offered in 7 trim levels: 2.5i, Premium, Limited, Touring, Onyx Edition XT, Limited XT, and Touring XT.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5i: This is the value-focused starting point, and it gives you LED headlights, keyless entry, automatic climate control, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and standard safety tech. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live with the simpler dual-screen setup.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 11.6-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. If you want the modern cabin experience without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the sweet spot.
• Limited: This trim adds leather upholstery, an upgraded Harman Kardon stereo, a memory system for the driver, reverse auto braking, and standard blind-spot monitoring and a power liftgate. It’s the right pick if you want a more upscale daily driver.
• Touring: This is the comfort-first choice, with upgraded leather, ventilated front seats, and a sunroof. It suits you if you want the most relaxed, near-luxury feel in the lineup.
• Onyx Edition XT: This is the most distinctive trim, pairing the turbo engine with heated rear seats, a front-view camera, hill-descent control, and a more aggressive X-Mode setup. It’s the best fit if you want the most capability and a more adventurous personality.
• Limited XT: This trim mirrors the Limited’s upscale equipment but adds the turbo engine. It’s a strong choice if you want more power without giving up the Limited’s comfort and convenience features.
• Touring XT: This is the top-end comfort-and-power combination, pairing the turbo engine with the Touring’s premium cabin upgrades. Choose it if you want the most fully equipped Outback.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot monitoring and some convenience features move up to higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Subaru Outback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,684 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.74% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,704, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $20,849 sits slightly below last year's $22,355.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy with less risk of immediate overpaying. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and trim than on broad market momentum. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than plain, high-mileage versions.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.95/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2020 Subaru Outback earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite includes EyeSight driver assistance, with adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keep alert and assist. The expert notes also point out that the standard AWD system adds confidence in poor conditions. One caveat is that EyeSight can be sensitive to weather and lighting, and DriverFocus is described as frustrating in use.

Should I buy a 2020 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.74% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.95/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 adds a larger touchscreen, updated engines, and more modern safety and driver-monitoring tech.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $22,215, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $20,849 average.
• It emphasizes reliability, low cost, and high resale even more strongly.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the smarter buy because pricing has eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2021 is the cleaner choice for buyers who prioritize a slightly fresher take on the same formula.
