How much does the 2020 RAM 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 7.73% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

With 9,725 listings available, you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare across trims and conditions.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 RAM 1500 earns 4.75/5 from owners and 7.67/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its luxurious feel, smooth ride, powerful engine, and spacious interior. That lines up well with the truck’s use-case as a more polished full-size pickup that can work as a daily driver and still handle passenger duty comfortably.

The main trade-off is that Bluetooth connectivity and storage flexibility can frustrate some owners, and advanced safety features are not standard. Even so, the truck’s stylish design and strong safety reputation help it stand out if you want a pickup that feels more upscale than basic.

With 34.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s enough market value to make shopping worthwhile.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner summary also points to a truck that feels dependable, with praise centered on its luxurious feel, smooth ride, powerful engine, and spacious interior.

The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by highlighting the updated EcoDiesel’s improved power, efficiency, and delivery, along with the reworked transmission pairing. The cost-effectiveness notes also emphasize that you can buy into the truck’s capability and equipment without necessarily paying for every available feature.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about core durability and more about choosing the right configuration and checking that the truck’s equipment and condition match the asking price.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 RAM 1500?

At 71.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, frame alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because this truck can be equipped very differently from one listing to the next, condition and equipment matter a lot when comparing prices.

Pay close attention to whether the truck has the safety and convenience features you want, since some of them are trim-dependent and not standard across the lineup.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tradesman is the work-focused starting point with 18-inch steel wheels, vinyl upholstery and flooring, a bench seat, a 6-speaker stereo, a 5-inch touchscreen, push-button ignition, auto headlights, cruise control, air conditioning, a rear-view camera, heated side mirrors, and trailer-sway control. Big Horn adds foglights, carpet, tinted windows, and available upgrades such as 20-inch wheels, air suspension, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable pedals, LED lighting, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Laramie adds leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats with driver memory, a heated steering wheel, keyless entry, parking sensors, a 9-speaker stereo, and dual-zone auto climate control. Laramie Longhorn adds 20-inch wheels, chrome side steps, auto high beams and wipers, upgraded leather, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with wood inserts, reclining rear seats with heat and ventilation, navigation, and a standard spray-in bed liner. Limited adds standard air suspension, premium leather, power-retractable side steps, and additional safety equipment.
• Powertrain: The base 3.6-liter V6 makes 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque and uses eTorque mild-hybrid assistance. The optional 5.7-liter V8 delivers 395 hp and 410 lb-ft, and the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 delivers 260 hp and 480 lb-ft. The V6 is described as efficient, with up to 20 mpg city, 26 highway, 23 combined when properly configured, while the V8 can return up to 17/23/19. The EcoDiesel brings strong torque and improved drivability, but it still behaves like a diesel and can show turbo lag.
• Safety package: The available driver-assistance suite includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and auto emergency braking, lane-departure warning, a self-parking system, and a 360-degree camera. Some of these features are limited to higher trims, and advanced safety features are not standard.
• Infotainment: The truck starts with a 5-inch touchscreen, while higher trims can get an 8.4-inch touchscreen or a 12-inch tablet-style touchscreen. The system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on the 8.4-inch setup, and the 12-inch screen is described as especially strong for usability. Every trim gets push-button start, and there are USB and USB-C ports front and back.
• Fuel efficiency: Properly configured, the V6 can return 20 mpg city, 26 highway, 23 combined. The V8 can return up to 17/23/19. The EcoDiesel’s official figures are not stated, but the expert review notes an observed 15.4 mpg over mixed driving.

Which 2020 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2020 RAM 1500 is offered in 6 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Rebel, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the value-first choice if you want the truck’s core capability without paying for extras. It gives you the basics you need for work use, including the rear-view camera, trailer-sway control, and the 5-inch touchscreen, while keeping the price down.
• Big Horn: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more polished look and unlocks many of the truck’s most desirable comfort and tech upgrades. If you want a balanced mix of everyday usability and available features like the 8.4-inch touchscreen, this is the trim to target.
• Rebel: Choose this if you want the more aggressive off-road setup and the diesel engine availability. It adds lifted suspension, off-road tires, skid plates, tow hooks, and a more rugged personality.
• Laramie: This is the right pick if you want a clear step up in comfort and cabin quality. Leather, heated and ventilated front seats, parking sensors, and the upgraded stereo make it feel much more upscale.
• Laramie Longhorn: Pick this if you want luxury-truck styling and richer interior materials. It adds more premium touches, navigation, and a standard spray-in bed liner, making it a strong fit for buyers who want comfort and presentation.
• Limited: This is the top choice if you want the most upscale equipment and the strongest safety content. Standard air suspension, premium leather, power-retractable side steps, and added driver-assistance features make it the most fully equipped version.

Safety equipment is not standard across the lineup, so if driver assistance matters to you, focus on the trims that can be equipped with the available safety package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 RAM 1500?

The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,725 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.73% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,794, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $27,794 sits slightly below last year's $30,124.

That decline suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favor, which can make today’s purchase more attractive than it was a year ago. For a future seller, it also means you should expect pricing pressure if the broader market stays soft.

The good news is that strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it’s time to resell. Trucks with a reputation for comfort, refinement, and capability tend to stay appealing to used buyers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2020 RAM 1500 earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and Top Safety Pick Plus recognition from IIHS. It earns 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The available driver-assistance suite includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and auto emergency braking, lane-departure warning, a self-parking system, and a 360-degree camera. Some of those features are limited to Laramie and above, and the review notes that advanced safety features are not standard.

One important caveat is that the IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus result applies only to the Crew Cab model with all active safety equipment and optional LED lights. That means you should verify the exact configuration if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2020 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.73% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The EcoDiesel returns and is available across the lineup, broadening powertrain choice.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $24,114, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $27,794 average.
• It emphasizes comfort and refinement while still serving as a practical daily-driver pickup.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,270, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $27,794 average.
• It leans harder into capability and personality, including a high-performance off-road direction.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the right choice if you want the EcoDiesel return, strong safety credentials, and a market that has softened enough to create buying opportunities. If your priority is lower upfront cost, the 2019 is the better value path; if you want to spend more for a newer-feeling, more performance-oriented direction, the 2021 is the alternative to compare.
