CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Nissan Versa
overall

Summary
With 30 currently listed for sale near Miami, FL and an average price of $9,475.00, 13.3% of 2020 Nissan Versas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Nissan Versa 4.71 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
100.0% of 2020 Versa models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Nissan Versa stands out as a budget-minded small car that feels more substantial than its price suggests. Nissan made it more expensive than the old one, but the added cost is justified by improved infotainment, better safety tech, and a livelier ride. That combination gives the Versa a stronger appeal than a bare-bones economy car, especially for buyers who want a new vehicle without giving up the basics that make daily driving easier.
Its biggest strengths are value and standard advanced safety features, which help it feel like a smarter buy than its low-cost reputation might imply. The 2020 Versa also benefits from comfort and impressive fuel efficiency, according to owner feedback, and many drivers appreciate technology and features that are usually found in more expensive cars. Those qualities make it easy to understand why it can work well for shoppers trying to stretch a tight budget.
The tradeoffs are still part of the story, though. Performance is described as fairly pedestrian, and the back seat is cramped. Some owners also raised concerns about braking performance, particularly the rear brakes. Even so, the 2020 Nissan Versa’s mix of affordability, safety equipment, and improved refinement gives it a clearer identity than many cars in its class.

Best value for the money especially on SR version. Comfortable ride n seats fuel efficient engine with much much more reliable cvt hands down. The car has so much technology that is a steal and even thoughtful ones . First new car option is perfect. Its much more attractive looks is perfect on SR. While its not an Maxima in performance its just right for daily commute. One thing I recommend is to swap out rear drums for rotors or brakes like the front. Its just my opinion in terms of improving the stopping power. It takes so much pressure to stop it and long distance too.

I think it’s a great car for the money. Has all the features like the higher end model vehicles does. Drives great handles, great and great on gas. The 2020 Vesra is a huge improvement.

See more price trendsHow much does the 2020 Nissan Versa cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $11,221 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,837.05 |
| Year-Round High | $12,147.82 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,987 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.39% |
Prices have softened 6.39% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 667 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $10,837.05, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Nissan Versa a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Nissan Versa earns a 4.71/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.
Drivers consistently praise its great value for the price, comfort, and impressive fuel efficiency, and many appreciate the technology and features that are usually found in more expensive cars. The expert review also points to a livelier ride and a stronger overall package than the old bargain-basement Versa.
The trade-offs are still real: performance is fairly pedestrian, and the back seat is cramped. In practical terms, this makes the Versa a better fit if you want a budget-friendly daily driver with useful tech and safety gear rather than a car that feels quick or especially roomy.
The model’s positioning as a budget-minded small car with improved infotainment and better safety tech makes it especially appealing if you want a new car without giving up the basics that make commuting easier. With 27.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s also a decent chance of finding one priced attractively.
Is the 2020 Nissan Versa reliable?
Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback emphasizes that the car feels like a smart value, with comfort and fuel efficiency standing out as recurring positives. That kind of praise usually lines up with a vehicle that owners feel good about living with over time, especially when they also mention technology and features that punch above the price point.
The expert review reinforces that impression by describing the Versa as a better car than the one it replaces, with a more refined driving experience and more useful equipment. It also notes that the new model gives you more for your money, which is a good sign for everyday dependability-minded shoppers.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the car’s condition and maintenance history match its value-focused reputation.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Nissan Versa?
At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any collision. Pay close attention to bodywork quality, brake condition, and how the car drives at low and highway speeds. Because this model is aimed at value-conscious buyers, condition matters a lot more than chasing the lowest sticker price.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base S is the most stripped-down version, while the SV adds more desirable convenience and tech features. The SR brings additional styling and comfort touches, but the S is the one most likely to feel bare-bones.
- Powertrain: The Versa uses a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT. Output is improved over the previous generation, and the CVT is described as more capable in everyday driving, though acceleration is still only decent.
- Safety package: Standard driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams, along with a reversing camera and front- and side-impact airbags. The safety tech is a major part of the Versa’s appeal.
- Infotainment: The base car gets a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, and a hands-free text-messaging assistant. The SV adds NissanConnect with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus an upgraded instrument display.
- Fuel efficiency: With the manual transmission, the Versa returns 27 mpg city, 35 highway, and 30 combined. With the CVT, it returns 32/40/35.
Which 2020 Nissan Versa trim should I buy?
The 2020 Nissan Versa is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, and SR.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The S gets the essentials, but it lacks the upgraded infotainment and extra convenience features that make the higher trims easier to live with.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SV is the best value because it adds the upgraded NissanConnect system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus useful comfort and display upgrades without pushing the price as high as the SR.
- Premium/top trim: The SR adds 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, automatic climate control, and passive-entry convenience, but those extras are more about polish than necessity.
The safety package is a strong point across the lineup, with standard automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Nissan Versa?
The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.
- Deal availability: 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 667 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.39% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 63.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,837.05, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Nissan Versa's resale value?
The current average of $11,221 sits slightly below last year's $11,987.
That softer pricing suggests the Versa is currently in a buyer-friendly phase, which can help you if you’re shopping now but may limit upside if you plan to sell soon. On the other hand, a lower entry price can make the car easier to move later if you keep it clean and well maintained.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Nissan Versa safe?
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
For 2020, the Versa adds standard driver-assistance features including automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. It also includes a reversing camera, a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, and Nissan's Easy Fill Tire Alert.
That standard safety equipment is a major strength for a car in this price range, and it helps explain why the Versa feels more substantial than its budget reputation suggests. The main caveat is that the added sensor-based safety tech can raise repair costs after even a minor collision, so accident history and body condition deserve extra attention when you shop used.
Should I buy a 2020 Nissan Versa or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.39% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 Versa stands out for its improved infotainment, better safety tech, and livelier ride.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, safety equipment, and modern features, the 2020 is the one to focus on. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, you may want to compare carefully against other years and shop aggressively for the cleanest, best-priced example.
