Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport 4.5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport stands out most for its styling. It presents itself with a sporty look, but that appearance is the main source of its appeal rather than any real performance character.
That disconnect is also what defines it. The 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport lacks both the guts and the dynamism to deliver on performance promises, so buyers drawn to the name should expect a small crossover that looks the part more than it drives like one.

The features are pretty nice. Like the heated seat and steering wheel options. Love the remote start! I would compare it to Toyota Rav 4 or Ford Escape or Honda CR-V of the same year model. I wish it had a moonroof/sunroof but I'm not disappointed since there are roof rack side rails and I could see myself using the roof for cargo on trips. So I'm happy to accept that.

Really enjoying this vehicle. It is perfect for my needs. I dont need a race car just a reliable commuter thats is good in all driving conditions. It is comfortable and the ride is very good. The features for the price are well worth it. Will have this for a long time to come.

How much does the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,150 |
| Year-Round Low | $12,049.48 |
| Year-Round High | $12,849.78 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $12,838 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.36% |
Prices have softened 5.36% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 604 listings available, which suggests you should have some room to compare options. If you find a listing below $12,049.48, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport a good car?
Yes — 4.5/5 is a strong user rating for this model year, and the expert rating is 7.5/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.
The 2017 Rogue Sport’s appeal is rooted in its styling and its upscale-feeling cabin, not in performance. The overview makes clear that you should expect a small crossover that looks the part more than it drives like one, and the expert review backs that up with strong marks for appearance, technology, and safety.
The market also shows 29.6% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you a decent chance to find a well-priced example.
Is the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The expert review suggests the Rogue Sport’s appeal comes from its modern features, comfortable ride, and useful everyday manners rather than from mechanical excitement. Its performance notes point to a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with a CVT, and the review describes the powertrain as adequate for normal urban use but strained under harder acceleration.
The cost-effectiveness commentary also notes that Nissan was offering zero-interest financing for 60 months, juicy rebates, and low lease payments when the review was written, which reinforces the idea that this model was positioned as a value-oriented purchase. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the vehicle’s underpowered character and feature-heavy packaging may make condition and maintenance history matter more than badge appeal.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport?
At 57.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a price that looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the equipment on the car matches the trim and package claims in the listing.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base S trim is the most stripped-down version, while the SV adds more convenience and the SL brings the most upscale appearance, including machined-face 19-inch aluminum wheels. The cabin is described as looking and feeling bigger than many competitors, with softer materials and superior finishes.
- Powertrain: The Rogue Sport uses a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with a CVT. The review says it feels fine in normal city driving, but it lacks real punch for merging and passing, so you should evaluate whether that level of performance fits your needs.
- Safety package: The SV Premium Package adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Automatic emergency braking and automatic high-beam LED headlights are restricted to the SL Premium Package, and the Platinum Package adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-departure prevention.
- Infotainment: NissanConnect includes a 7-inch touchscreen, NissanConnect Mobile Apps, NissanConnect Services, and navigation on the SV with the Premium Package and standard on the SL. The system also includes text-messaging support, Siri Eyes Free compatibility, and app access, but it does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The review says the AWD test vehicle was rated at 27 mpg in combined driving, but it averaged 24.4 mpg on the test loop.
Which 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport trim should I buy?
The 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, SL.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the least expensive path into the Rogue Sport, and it makes sense if you mainly want the styling and basic crossover utility without paying for extra equipment. The cost-effectiveness commentary suggests it can be a reasonable value if you do not want AWD or a long list of features.
- SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it unlocks more of the Rogue Sport’s useful technology, including the available NissanConnect system and, with the Premium Package, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and the 360-degree surround-view camera system with Moving Object Detection.
- SL: This is the trim to choose if you want the most upscale presentation and the most equipment. It adds the machined-face 19-inch wheels and makes the infotainment system standard, while the SL Premium Package brings automatic emergency braking and automatic high-beam LED headlights.
The safety-package gap to keep in mind is that automatic emergency braking and automatic high-beam LED headlights are not available until the SL Premium Package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 604 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.36% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,049.48, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport's resale value?
The current average of $12,150 sits slightly below last year's $12,838.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to resell later, the current softness means your upside may depend more on buying well now than on expecting quick appreciation.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport safe?
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Rogue Sport’s safety equipment is strongest on higher trims. The SV Premium Package adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the SL Premium Package adds automatic emergency braking and automatic high-beam LED headlights. With the Platinum Package, the SL also gets adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-departure prevention.
One important caveat is that crash-test ratings were not available at the time of the review, so you should lean more heavily on the equipment list and the condition of any used example you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.36% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert review says the Rogue Sport’s styling and available technology are its biggest strengths, while its performance is the main compromise.
The bottom line: If you want the Rogue Sport’s styling, available tech, and a market that has softened, the 2017 is a sensible year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the best-maintained examples and be selective about trim and equipment so you get the features you actually want without overpaying.
