Is the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport a good car?

Yes — 4.5/5 is a strong user rating for this model year, and the expert score is 7.5/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

The 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport fits you best if you care more about styling and a polished cabin than outright performance. The overview makes clear that its appeal is image-forward, and the expert test drive notes back that up with praise for its attractive design and comparatively pleasing interior aesthetics.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

With 30.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.

Is the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The expert test drive notes suggest the Rogue Sport’s appeal comes from its modern features and everyday usability more than from mechanical excitement. Its performance content also points to a vehicle that can feel underpowered when pushed, so the main ownership concern for you is less about drama and more about whether the driving experience matches your expectations over time.

If you want a used small crossover that prioritizes style and features, the Rogue Sport can make sense, but you should be realistic about its modest performance and make sure the specific example you buy has been maintained well.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport?

At 59% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then focus your inspection on bodywork, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because the model’s appeal is tied heavily to appearance and equipment, condition matters a lot: a clean, well-kept example is more likely to feel worth the money than one with cosmetic or accident-related issues.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S is the most stripped-down version, while the SV adds more convenience and tech, and the SL brings the most upscale look with larger machined-face 19-inch wheels. If you want the best value, the SV is the trim that most clearly balances equipment and price.
• Powertrain: The Rogue Sport uses a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with a CVT. It can feel adequately spry around town, but it lacks punch when you ask for hard acceleration, and the driving character is described as anything but sporty.
• Safety package: The SV Premium Package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Automatic emergency braking and automatic high-beam LED headlights are reserved for the SL Premium Package, and the Platinum Package adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-departure prevention.
• Infotainment: NissanConnect uses a 7-inch touchscreen and includes NissanConnect Mobile Apps, NissanConnect Services, navigation, text-messaging support, Siri Eyes Free compatibility, and app access. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not offered.
• Fuel efficiency: On the expert test drive loop, the AWD test vehicle averaged 24.4 mpg. The EPA figure cited in the performance notes is 27 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport trim should I buy?

The 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, SL.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the least expensive way into the Rogue Sport, but it is also the most basic. If you want the styling and a lower entry price, it works, but you give up a lot of the features that make the model more appealing.
• SV: This is the best-value trim. It adds the equipment that makes the Rogue Sport feel more modern, including the available NissanConnect setup and useful driver-assistance content when properly equipped.
• SL: This is the trim to choose if you want the most upscale presentation and the most available safety and convenience technology. It is the right pick if you care most about getting the fullest feature set.

The safety-package content makes clear that some important driver-assistance features are reserved for higher trims, so if those matter to you, shop above the base model.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you have room to shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 586 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.37% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,775, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport's resale value?

The current average of $11,775 sits slightly below last year's $12,712.

That price movement suggests the Rogue Sport has already absorbed some of its depreciation, which can help you if you buy at the right number. For a future seller, the key is to avoid overpaying now, because resale value will depend heavily on how well the vehicle holds up against similar used crossovers in the market.

A clean history, strong condition, and desirable equipment will matter more than mileage alone when it comes time to sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport safe?

The 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport had not been crash tested by the federal government or IIHS as this review was written.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Rogue Sport’s safety equipment is strongest on higher trims. The SV Premium Package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, while the SL Premium Package adds automatic emergency braking and automatic high-beam LED headlights. The Platinum Package goes further with adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-departure prevention.

For you, the main safety takeaway is that the most useful driver-assistance features are not standard across the lineup, so trim choice matters a lot if safety tech is a priority.

Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.37% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert review says the Rogue Sport’s main appeal is its styling and available technology, not its performance.

The bottom line: If you want the lowest current price and are comfortable prioritizing style and features over driving excitement, the 2017 is a sensible buy. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep shopping carefully for a clean, well-equipped example rather than stretching for a higher-mileage one with a rough history.
