Used 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 for Sale nearSilver Spring, MD

How much does the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 cost?

Prices have softened 5.62% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 551 listings available, which suggests you have some room to compare prices and condition.

Is the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise the stunning design, amazing interior, and enjoyable driving experience. The car also gets credit for its luxurious feel and advanced safety features.

The main trade-offs are that it lacks power and has limited cargo space. That lines up with the broader overview: you’re looking at a compact car that leans into style, refinement, and everyday appeal more than maximum practicality.

With 30.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still enough market value to make shopping worthwhile.

Is the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels reliable, dependable, and trouble-free, with many drivers saying they’d count on it for everyday use. That kind of language matters because it suggests the ownership experience is holding up well over time, not just looking good on paper.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Mazda3’s solid everyday character and mature engineering approach, which supports the impression of a car built for steady use. Mazda’s maintenance-friendly ownership pitch adds to that appeal.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the car’s premium feel has been preserved through careful maintenance and clean history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mazda MAZDA3?

At 71.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and interior wear. Because this model’s appeal depends heavily on design, cabin quality, and safety equipment, condition matters more than usual. If a car has been repaired after a collision, you’ll want to make sure the work was done cleanly and that the car still feels tight on the road.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Premium Package adds 18-inch alloy wheels, and the base-trim-level vehicle misses that upgrade. The cabin presentation is a major part of the appeal, so compare interior materials and equipment carefully if you’re shopping lower trims.
• Powertrain: All versions use a 2.5-liter SkyActiv four-cylinder with 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. The engine is predictable and smooth, but it does not deliver the immediate punch of a turbocharged setup.
• Safety package: The car includes forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and dynamic brake support. Lower trim levels receive an Acceptable headlight score, while the Premium Package’s LED headlights score Good.
• Infotainment: The system uses an 8.8-inch display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a rotary controller instead of touchscreen input. It also includes Bluetooth connectivity, with Sirius XM satellite radio available.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA says it returns 25 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

Which 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?

The 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 2 trim levels: sedan and hatchback.

Here's the short version:

• sedan: This is the better pick if you want the Mazda3’s upscale styling in a more traditional body style. It fits the car’s premium ambitions well and is the version that most directly competes with other compact sedans.
• hatchback: This is the more distinctive choice if you want the most dramatic styling and a more expressive look. It’s the body style Mazda leans on most in its presentation, and it suits you best if design matters as much as practicality.

The Premium Package is the key safety-package note to keep in mind, since its LED headlights earn a Good rating while lower trims receive an Acceptable score.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mazda MAZDA3?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 551 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.62% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,073, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?

The current average of $17,872 sits slightly below last year's $18,937.

That price movement suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you’re thinking about future value, the current trend points to a model that is holding steady rather than appreciating.

For a seller, that means condition, mileage, and history will matter even more when it’s time to list. A clean, well-kept example should still attract interest because the car’s styling and safety reputation remain strong.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 safe?

The 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 is a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS and earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, scoring top marks in all crash tests.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda equips the car with forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and dynamic brake support. That’s a strong standard safety list for a compact car.

One caveat is that lower trim levels receive an Acceptable headlight score, while the Premium Package’s LED headlights are rated Good. If safety is a top priority, that trim-level difference is worth paying attention to.

Should I buy a 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It balances upscale styling, standard safety, and everyday usability in a refined compact package.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $16,842, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $17,872 average.
• It emphasizes upscale feel and driving enjoyment with a more athletic personality.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,662, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $17,872 average.
• It adds turbocharged power for a more refined, stronger-driving compact.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of style, safety, and value, the 2020 is the sweet spot. If price is your top priority, the 2019 is the cheaper route; if you want more power and can spend more, the 2021 is the upgrade path.
