Used 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 for Sale nearBakersfield, CA

How much does the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 cost?

Prices have softened 6.21% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 583 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise the stylish design, luxurious-feeling interior, and enjoyable driving experience. The model also gets credit for its advanced safety features and premium feel, which fit its near-luxury positioning.

The main trade-offs are limited rear-seat space and less cargo room, and the expert review also notes that it lacks the immediate punch of turbocharged rivals. That makes it a strong fit if you want a compact car that feels special rather than maximally practical.

With 35.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s meaningful shopping opportunity if you compare carefully.

Is the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers describing the car as something they can count on over time. The same feedback also emphasizes the model’s strong long-term appeal through its design, cabin quality, and overall driving enjoyment.

The expert review reinforces that sense of durability by describing the car as predictable and well-sorted in everyday driving. Mazda also includes a first scheduled maintenance visit on the house, which helps reduce early ownership friction.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright reliability and more about choosing a well-kept example with the right condition and service history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mazda MAZDA3?

At 72.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and interior wear. Because this model is positioned as a premium-feeling compact car, condition matters a lot: a clean, well-maintained example will feel much more satisfying than one with visible wear or past damage.

Pay extra attention to the features and equipment level, since lower trims can miss some of the nicer touches that help define the Mazda3’s appeal. If you’re comparing multiple listings, focus on how each one balances comfort, technology, and safety equipment against price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Premium Package adds 18-inch alloy wheels and LED headlights that rate Good, while lower trims get Acceptable headlights.
• Powertrain: All 2020 Mazda3s use a 2.5-liter SkyActiv four-cylinder with 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, and a six-speed manual is limited to front-wheel-drive hatchback models with the preferred or premium package.
• Safety package: The car includes forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and dynamic brake support.
• Infotainment: You get an 8.8-inch display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a rotary controller instead of touchscreen operation.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA says it returns 25 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

Which 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?

The 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 2 trim levels: Preferred and Premium.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the better-value choice if you want the Mazda3’s upscale design, standard safety equipment, and core tech without stretching to the highest-priced version.
• Premium: This is the one to choose if you want the most polished version of the car, including the richer equipment mix and the features that help the Mazda3 feel closest to near-luxury territory.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, but the Premium Package gets the best headlight rating, which is worth considering if you drive often at night.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mazda MAZDA3?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing variation to reward comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 583 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.21% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 72.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,071, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?

The current average of $17,667 sits slightly below last year's $18,837.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you’re a future seller, the key is to buy well and keep the car in strong condition so you’re not fighting both depreciation and wear.

Because this model has strong owner satisfaction, it should continue to attract shoppers who value style, safety, and a premium feel. That helps support demand over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 safe?

The 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 is a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS and earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in all crash tests.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda equips the car with forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and dynamic brake support. Lower trims do give up the better-rated headlights that come with the Premium Package.

The main caveat is that the lower trim headlights score only Acceptable, so if nighttime driving matters to you, that’s worth factoring into your trim choice.

Should I buy a 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 72.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.21% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 combines premium styling, standard safety tech, and a refined cabin feel.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $16,922, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $17,667 average.
• It feels upscale, refined, and genuinely athletic.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,274, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $17,667 average.
• Turbo power adds boosted performance and a more mature upscale character.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, style, and safety, the 2020 is the sweet spot. If you’re shopping on a tighter budget, the 2019 is the value play; if you want more power and can spend more, the 2021 is the upgrade path.
