Why it stands out
The 2020 Lincoln Aviator stands out as Lincoln’s return to a more focused luxury identity, with a stylish design and a comfortable cabin that aim to make it feel like a true premium SUV. It is a midsize, 3-row luxury SUV, and Lincoln positions it as a fresh, all-new entry built on the contemporary Explorer platform rather than a simple badge exercise. That combination gives it a distinctive place in the lineup: it is meant to be a luxury vehicle in its own right, not just a familiar utility vehicle with upscale trim.
Its appeal is strengthened by multiple powertrain options, which broaden its reach for buyers who want both luxury and flexibility. The Aviator also promises a smooth ride and advanced features, and owners frequently praise its luxurious feel, powerful performance, spacious interior, adaptive cruise control, and comfortable seating. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: the ergonomic design is a weak point, the third row is cramped, and some drivers are unhappy with the automatic transmission’s shifting.

We were delighted with the purchase of the Lincoln Aviator. We enjoy the large sunroof, seating for seven (heated and cooled seats in second row), and the adaptive cruise control. The vehicle helps steer itself and adjusts speeds not only when coming up on other vehicles, but changes the speed when speed limits change. Very comfortable ride and is very responsive with the twin turbo engine. It is a well designed vehicle!

| Year-Round High | $31,732 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $31,706 |

There are 881 listings available, which gives you a meaningful pool to compare prices and equipment.
Is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Lincoln Aviator earns a 4.61/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Technology, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its luxurious feel, powerful performance, and spacious interior. They also call out the smooth ride, advanced features, adaptive cruise control, and comfortable seating.
The main trade-offs are the awkward ergonomic design and the cramped third row. In practical terms, that means you should expect a premium-feeling three-row SUV that works best if you value comfort and refinement more than maximum packaging efficiency.
The market still shows room to shop, with 33.7% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator reliable?
Owners rate it 4.61/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with repeated praise for the Aviator’s comfortable, luxurious character and strong overall appeal. The expert evaluation also emphasizes its smooth, confident driving manner and refined power delivery, which supports the impression of a vehicle built to feel composed over time.
Lincoln also includes a broad set of standard equipment, which can help reduce the need for immediate add-ons after purchase. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that higher-end luxury features can be costly to sort out if prior maintenance was neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Lincoln Aviator?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on every candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the cabin electronics, ride quality, and transmission behavior, since those are the kinds of issues that can be expensive to live with later. Focus on overall condition and how well the luxury features work, not just mileage.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Standard trim comes with three-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, heated front seats, Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a WiFi hotspot, four USB ports, and satellite radio. The Reserve adds second-row captain's chairs, 12-way power front seats, upgraded leather, a hands-free power liftgate, a Revel premium sound system, quad-zone climate control, a surround-view camera system, and navigation. The Grand Touring adds the plug-in hybrid drivetrain and can be optioned with a head-up display, wireless charging, 30-way massaging seats, and a 28-speaker Revel 3D premium sound system. The Black Label makes the upgraded seats and stereo standard and adds unique upholstery choices and nearly every feature available. The Standard is the best-value trim because it already brings a lot of luxury equipment.
- Powertrain: The standard setup is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic and available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The Grand Touring adds a 100-hp electric motor, battery pack, and charging port for a net 494 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque, and it uses all-wheel drive. Both versions are quick, with about 0-60 mph in 4 seconds.
- Safety package: Lincoln Co-Pilot360 includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring is also included, and the head-up display is part of the safety and driver-information setup. Some additional driver-assistance features are optional on the Reserve.
- Infotainment: The Aviator uses a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Sync 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a fully digital instrument panel, and an available head-up display. The layout is conventional and easy to use, and the system supports a landscape presentation that makes smartphone integration feel more natural.
- Fuel efficiency: The conventionally powered Aviator with rear-wheel drive returns 18 mpg city, 26 highway, and 21 combined. With all-wheel drive, it gets 17 city, 24 highway, and 20 combined. The plug-in hybrid returns 23 mpg combined, 56 miles-per-gallon equivalent combined, and 21 miles of electric-only range.
Which 2020 Lincoln Aviator trim should I buy?
The 2020 Lincoln Aviator is offered in 5 trim levels: Standard, Reserve, Grand Touring, Black Label, and Black Label Grand Touring.
Here's the short version:
- Standard: This is the trim to start with if you want the strongest value. It already gives you leather upholstery, heated front seats, three-zone climate control, parking sensors, Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a WiFi hotspot, so you get a lot of luxury without pushing deep into the price ladder.
- Reserve: This trim adds meaningful comfort and convenience upgrades, including second-row captain's chairs, upgraded leather, a hands-free power liftgate, a Revel premium sound system, quad-zone climate control, a surround-view camera system, and navigation. It makes sense if you want a more upscale family-hauler feel.
- Grand Touring: This is the pick if you want the plug-in hybrid drivetrain and the strongest performance. It layers in the electric-assisted powertrain and can be equipped with high-end extras like a head-up display, wireless charging, massaging seats, and the 28-speaker Revel 3D system.
- Black Label: This is the luxury showcase trim. It makes the upgraded seats and stereo standard and adds unique upholstery choices along with nearly every feature available, so it suits you if you want the most exclusive cabin experience.
- Black Label Grand Touring: This combines the Black Label luxury treatment with the plug-in hybrid drivetrain, making it the most fully loaded version in the lineup.
Lincoln Co-Pilot360 is standard, but some additional driver-assistance features are optional on the Reserve.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Lincoln Aviator?
The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.
- Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 881 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.68% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 80.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $27,989, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator's resale value?
The current average of $28,002 sits slightly below last year's $31,706.
That decline suggests the market has moved in buyers' favor, which can make it easier for you to purchase at a more reasonable entry point. For a future seller, the softer pricing means you may not recover as much as earlier owners did, especially if your vehicle lacks desirable equipment or has visible wear.
Even so, the Aviator's premium positioning and broad appeal can help support demand if it is well maintained and presented cleanly. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.61/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator safe?
The 2020 Lincoln Aviator earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
It comes with Lincoln Co-Pilot360, which includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring is also included, along with a head-up display that helps keep key information in your line of sight.
The standard safety equipment is broad, but some additional driver-assistance features are optional on the Reserve. That means you should check each listing carefully to confirm which safety tech is actually installed.
Should I buy a 2020 Lincoln Aviator or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.68% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.61/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It marks Lincoln’s fresh, all-new luxury direction with a stylish design and multiple powertrain choices.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $30,173, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $28,002 average.
- It adds a more modern technology-and-comfort focus with a softer ride and more upscale cabin feel.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter starting point because prices have eased and the market still offers a healthy number of listings. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model-year experience, the 2021 is the path to consider, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2020 and shop for a clean, well-equipped example.
