Is the 2020 Lexus RX a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Lexus RX earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

The trade-offs are clear: its technology can be unintuitive, and some drivers have noted cabin noise at moderate speeds. That makes it a strong fit if you value comfort, quietness, and everyday ease more than a cutting-edge interface.

The market also looks reasonably healthy, with 39.0% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2020 Lexus RX reliable?

Drivers describe it as reliable, and the broader feedback emphasizes comfort, quietness, and a dependable ownership experience. The expert review also points to Lexus’ tradition of reliability and says the RX remains a solid choice for buyers who want a luxury SUV that feels easy to live with.

The RX’s powertrain is described as smooth and the cabin structure helps keep the ride composed, which supports the impression of a well-sorted vehicle over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about whether the technology and connected features still suit your expectations.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Lexus RX?

At 69.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with prior bodywork. Focus on overall condition, signs of uneven wear, and whether the cabin electronics and driver-assistance features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The RX gets standard 18-inch wheels, slimmer headlights, L-shaped taillights, and an available hands-free tailgate, while the F Sport appearance package adds a unique steering wheel and shift knob, aluminum pedals, bumpers, grille, badges, front seats, meter, aluminum ornamentation, and 20-inch wheels.
• Powertrain: The standard RX 350 uses a 3.5-liter V6 with an eight-speed automatic and 295 horsepower, while hybrid versions add electric-motor assistance and are tuned for stronger fuel economy.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 includes adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, daytime bicyclist detection, low-light pedestrian detection, road-sign assist, and lane-tracing assist; blind-spot monitoring is available.
• Infotainment: The RX uses an 8.0-inch standard display with an available 12.3-inch touchscreen, supports wireless-style convenience through Apple CarPlay integration, and includes six USB ports.
• Fuel efficiency: The RX 350 achieves an EPA-estimated 23 mpg combined, while the RX 450h all-wheel drive gets 30 mpg combined and the RX 450hL gets 29 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Lexus RX trim should I buy?

The 2020 Lexus RX is offered in 2 trim levels: RX 350, RX 350L.

Here's the short version:

• RX 350: This is the better-value choice if you want the core RX experience with the 3.5-liter V6, smooth eight-speed automatic, standard Apple CarPlay, and the full Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 suite. It gives you the RX’s comfort, quiet cabin, and strong overall balance without paying for the extra length of the three-row model.
• RX 350L: Choose this if you need the added space of the three-row version and want the same basic RX formula with more passenger flexibility. It is the right pick when occasional extra seating matters more than keeping the shorter, simpler layout.

The safety package is a strength across the lineup, with Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Lexus RX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 39.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,358 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.56% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $32,354, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Lexus RX's resale value?

The current average of $32,354 sits slightly below last year's $33,205.

That softer pricing suggests the RX is currently more accessible to used buyers than it was a year ago, which can help you enter the market at a better value point. For a future seller, that also means resale performance may depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum alone.

Because the RX still has strong buyer appeal, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Listings with clean history and desirable equipment are likely to hold attention better than average.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Lexus RX safe?

The Lexus RX earns good safety ratings from both IIHS and NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, daytime bicyclist detection, low-light pedestrian detection, road-sign assist, and lane-tracing assist. Blind-spot monitoring is available, and the rearview camera is standard.

One caveat is that Lexus Enform Safety Connect did not always connect reliably during testing, so you should verify that the connected services and driver-assistance features work properly on any used example you consider.

Should I buy a 2020 Lexus RX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 39.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.56% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 brings refreshed styling, standard Apple CarPlay, and added safety tech.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $35,026, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $32,354 average.
• It adds new standard safety systems.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with strong satisfaction and solid equipment. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year with updated standard safety systems, the 2021 is the cleaner upgrade path.
