Why it stands out
The 2020 Kia Sorento stands out as the last model year of the third generation, and by then it had grown into a more substantial, midsize-SUV-like family hauler. Kia had already improved the Sorento’s size, interior quality, and passenger room in this generation, and the third row was more accommodating than before, though still best suited to kids. It also offered a broad spread of powertrains over the years, but for 2020 the turbocharged four-cylinder was discontinued, leaving the V6 as the stronger choice for buyers who needed extra muscle. The 2020 model also received a light exterior refresh, with updated lights and bumpers, which gave it a cleaner look without changing the Sorento’s basic formula.
What makes the 2020 Sorento appealing is the way it balances practicality, features, and value. This generation brought standard rear parking sensors and available forward collision and lane-departure warnings, and the 2017 update added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration along with automatic emergency braking and adaptive headlights. For shoppers who want a used SUV with a more polished cabin than earlier Sorentos, the 2020 model is a compelling choice. Its main limitation is that the third row remains relatively small, so it is better for occasional use than for carrying adults on a regular basis.

This was the perfect car for us! But for a family whose best vehicle was over 16 years old, maybe we were just easy to please. Such a great value though compared to other seemingly overpriced manufacturers.

Great interior and runs really good. We tried several other cars but did not like the fit. This one is very comfortable for us and room to expand! It will last us for years!

How much does the 2020 Kia Sorento cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $14,903 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,903 |
| Year-Round High | $16,660 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,663 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.56% |
Prices have softened 10.56% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,999 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of used Sorentos to compare.
Is the 2020 Kia Sorento a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Kia Sorento earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. The overview shows a practical midsize SUV with improved interior quality, more passenger room, and a more accommodating third row than earlier versions, though that third row is still best for kids. It also balances features and value well, with a cleaner exterior refresh and useful family-focused equipment. With 33.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Kia Sorento reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The overview points to a well-developed third-generation Sorento with improved size, cabin quality, and family usability, plus a broad set of practical features. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the vehicle you choose has been maintained well enough to preserve that value and everyday usefulness.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Kia Sorento?
At 67.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection on any listing that looks especially clean or unusually cheap. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the third row, interior, and safety features all work as expected. If you want the best odds of a trouble-free purchase, narrow your search to the best-documented examples first.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Kia Sorento?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,999 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.56% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 67.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,903, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Kia Sorento's resale value?
The current average of $14,903 sits slightly below last year's $16,663.
That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means future resale gains may be limited unless you choose a well-kept example. If you plan to sell later, condition and documentation will matter a lot because buyers will likely compare your Sorento against similarly priced alternatives. A clean history and strong maintenance record should help your vehicle stand out when it’s time to trade or sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 67.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.56% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $13,631, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $14,903 average.
- It offers a stylish, luxurious feel with strong family appeal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $19,974, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $14,903 average.
- It brings a redesigned body with standard advanced safety features.
The bottom line: The 2020 is the best fit if you want a value-oriented Sorento with strong owner satisfaction and a softer used-market price. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2019 is the smarter budget play; if you want a newer redesign and are willing to pay more, the 2021 is the upgrade path.
