CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Hyundai Tucson

Summary
With 2,047 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,040, 33.5% of 2020 Hyundai Tucsons for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Hyundai Tucson 4.67 / 5 stars.
67.4% of 2020 Tucson models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Hyundai Tucson stands out as a compact SUV that leans hard into value, comfort, and everyday usability. By this point in its generation, Hyundai had already given the Tucson a more refined look, a roomier body, and a stronger emphasis on safety and technology than earlier versions. It also benefited from the generation’s improved interior quality and more purposeful design, which helped it feel more polished than the brand’s older small SUVs.
For 2020, the Tucson was a mostly carryover model, but it still offered a well-rounded mix of equipment. The lineup included standard frontal collision mitigation, lane-keep assist, and a driver attention monitor, while the Sport trim and above came with a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Buyers could also appreciate the Tucson’s practical side: the generation’s larger cargo area and improved rear-passenger space made it easier to live with, and the available all-wheel drive added flexibility for shoppers who wanted extra traction.
Its main drawback is performance. The Tucson’s turbocharged engine was gone by this point, and the model’s remaining powertrain was described as average at best, with the turbocharged version having previously been the quicker choice. That leaves the 2020 Tucson appealing most to buyers who prioritize a smooth ride, a generous feature set, and strong value over brisk acceleration.

The 2020 Hyundai Tucson certainly gives you plenty of bang for the buck as compared to other SUVs!! It has plenty of features from a blind spot warning system on the side view mirrors to auto braking and drift controls. The ride is also quiet and smooth. Its an excellent choice!!

Just bought the vehicle one week ago so a bit early to give an in depth review but so far I LOVE IT! Very smooth ride, I have the 2.4 engine so great pickup. Its a perfect size, roomy enough but not too big so it looks sporty. One downside is the hatchback trunk is a bit heavy to pull down to close (wish it closed automatically like it opens), but I work out so I have some upper body strength. I bought the Ultimate w leather interior too. Silver w/ black interior, very sharp.

How much does the 2020 Hyundai Tucson cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $16,043 |
| Year-Round Low | $15,931 |
| Year-Round High | $17,288 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,281 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.17% |
Prices have softened 7.17% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,052 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2020 Hyundai Tucson a good car?
Yes — the 4.67/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, smooth ride, and extensive tech features, while also calling out the excellent safety options and value for money. For you, that means this Tucson fits especially well if you want a compact SUV that emphasizes comfort, practicality, and everyday usability over sporty performance. With 34.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive buying opportunities.
Is the 2020 Hyundai Tucson reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience, with repeated praise for comfort, value, and the kind of everyday usability that tends to matter over the long haul. The same reviews highlight a trouble-free feel for many drivers, even if some note minor annoyances like the heavy hatchback trunk.
For used buyers, that suggests the bigger risk is less about broad reliability concerns and more about finding a well-kept example with consistent maintenance and clean history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Hyundai Tucson?
At 67.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and any signs of uneven wear that could point to past repairs.
It also makes sense to focus on overall condition and how the SUV drives, since a careful test drive can reveal issues that photos and listings may miss.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Hyundai Tucson?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.
- Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,052 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.17% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 67.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,931, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?
The current average of $16,043 sits slightly below last year's $17,281.
That price movement suggests the Tucson has already absorbed some near-term depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. A lower entry cost can reduce the amount of value left to lose over your ownership period, especially if you keep the vehicle in strong condition.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 67.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.17% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $17,503, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $16,043 average.
- It offers a final-year version with plenty of tech and safety features.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2020 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction and meaningful deal availability. If you can stretch for the 2021, it makes sense when you want the last year of the generation and are willing to pay more for that newer model-year position.
