How much does the 2020 Hyundai Elantra cost?

Prices are up 1.08% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 2,299 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.53/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its great value, gas mileage, and smooth ride, and many also like the safety features and updated technology. The Elantra’s roomy cabin and excellent value for money fit its role as a budget-minded compact sedan, while the expert review also points to its practical everyday appeal.

The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, and fuel economy is still described as poor despite the improvement. That makes it a better fit if you want a sensible commuter than if you want something engaging to drive.

Good and great deals account for 30.8% of listings, so there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.53/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a car people can count on for value, gas mileage, and a smooth ride, and it also highlights the safety features and updated technology that help make daily ownership feel dependable. The expert review reinforces that theme by describing it as an extremely cost-effective choice with low cost of ownership and free scheduled maintenance for the first three years or 36,000 miles.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about finding a well-kept example that still delivers the value and efficiency you expect.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Hyundai Elantra?

At 63.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision or shows uneven panel gaps, tire wear, or warning lights. Focus on the condition of the safety systems, infotainment, and suspension feel, since those are the areas most likely to affect your day-to-day experience.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SE is the most stripped-down version, with a 5-inch screen and fewer convenience features than higher trims. SEL adds a larger 7-inch display plus Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM, while Limited brings wireless charging and a premium Infinity audio system; Sport adds its own upgraded equipment and a more engaging setup.
• Powertrain: Most trims use a 147-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a CVT and front-wheel drive. Eco swaps in a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and better combined fuel economy, while Sport uses a 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder with 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Smart Sense is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a driver attention monitor. SEL adds blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, while Limited and Sport get full LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation.
• Infotainment: Base models get a 5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and a USB port. SEL upgrades to a 7-inch screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM, while Limited can add an 8-inch screen, navigation, Blue Link Guidance, and SiriusXM data services.
• Fuel efficiency: The Eco returns 36 mpg in combined driving, while most versions with the standard powertrain are rated at 34 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 6 trim levels: SE, SEL, Value Edition, Eco, Limited, and Sport.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Elantra lineup. You give up the bigger screen and most convenience upgrades, so it works best if price matters more than features.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 7-inch display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM without jumping too far up the price ladder. It also gains blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, which makes it the smart all-around pick.
• Value Edition: Choose this if you want a little more convenience than SEL and like the idea of Blue Link Connected Car and Remote plans included for the first three years of ownership. It is a good middle ground if connected features matter to you.
• Eco: Pick this if fuel economy is your top priority. Its turbocharged engine and 36 mpg combined rating make it the efficiency-focused choice.
• Limited: This is the upscale choice, with wireless smartphone charging, a premium Infinity sound system, and the option for an 8-inch screen with navigation and extra connected services. It suits you if you want the most comfort and tech.
• Sport: This is the most engaging version, with a 1.6-liter turbo engine, 201 horsepower, and an independent rear suspension. It is the right call if you want the strongest performance and a more enjoyable drive.

Smart Sense is standard across the lineup, while SEL adds blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, and Limited and Sport add full LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Hyundai Elantra?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,299 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.08% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 63.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,467, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $13,585 sits slightly above last year's $13,439.

That modest increase suggests the market has held up reasonably well for this model year. If you buy carefully and keep the car in good condition, you should have a decent chance of preserving value better than you might expect from a compact sedan at this price point.

The Elantra’s value-focused reputation also helps support demand among used buyers who want a roomy, practical car without paying much more than the market average.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.53/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra earns a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety when equipped with full LED headlights, and it earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai Smart Sense is standard on all trim levels and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a driver attention monitor. Starting with SEL trim, you also get blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, while Limited and Sport add full LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation.

The main caveat is the NHTSA note about rear-door intrusion on the rear-seat passenger during the side-impact test, so you should pay close attention to crash protection details if you regularly carry passengers in the back.

Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.08% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.53/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Hyundai added free scheduled maintenance, improved fuel economy ratings, and new standard safety features.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $11,659, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $13,585 average.
• It remains a strong value, especially if you want the turbocharged Sport trim.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $15,672, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $13,585 average.
• The redesign brings a more stylish, sophisticated, and tech-forward compact sedan.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, standard safety, and value, the 2020 is the sensible choice. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense if you want the newer redesign and are willing to pay more.
