overall

Summary
With 2,514 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,515, 34.0% of 2020 Honda Pilots for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Honda Pilot 4.7 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Honda Pilot stands out as a versatile, comfortable three-row SUV with a lot of everyday usefulness. It offers tons of cargo space and an adult-friendly third row, which makes it appealing for families who need real passenger room rather than just occasional extra seating. The Pilot also comes with an impressive list of standard safety features, and its powerful engine is another clear strength.
At the same time, the 2020 Honda Pilot no longer separates itself from rivals the way it once did. Its biggest drawbacks are its unintuitive technology and interior materials that feel cheap, which can make the cabin less satisfying than its practical layout suggests. Even so, owners are very satisfied with its performance, comfort, and fuel efficiency, and many appreciate its spacious interior and responsive handling.

Truly next level, crazy fast and responsive SUV for what it is, did not expect to be so agile and fast. Throttle response and braking are unbelievable again, for something this big. Corners amazing, all while getting great gas mileage. This is the Black Edition, it’s better than anything else in its class, period.

Perfect size SUV. I love everything about it. The hands free options are amazing. The fact that you dont have a key switch, was a little getting use too. Drives smoothly. Great on gas. Very comfortable interior.

Great value with awesome upgrades! Wish it had the right rear view mirror camera like our 2015 Honda Accord. Much better bang for my buck in gas mpg than the other vehicles we considered like the Lexus 460 and Toyota Highlander.

How much does the 2020 Honda Pilot cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,526 |
| Year-Round Low | $22,505 |
| Year-Round High | $24,382 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $24,375 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.59% |
Prices have softened 7.59% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,533 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2020 Honda Pilot a good car?
Yes — owners rate it 4.7/5, and the expert rating is 8.00/10. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its spacious interior, responsive handling, comfort, and fuel efficiency. The Pilot also stands out for everyday usefulness, especially if you want real passenger room and a practical three-row layout.
The main trade-offs are its unintuitive technology and interior materials that feel cheap. In use, that means you get a highly functional family SUV, but one that can feel less polished than some rivals.
With its family-friendly cabin and strong standard safety equipment, it fits best if you value space and practicality over cabin flair. Good and great deals account for 34.6% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2020 Honda Pilot reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe it as dependable in everyday use, with strong satisfaction around performance, comfort, and fuel efficiency. The feedback also points to a vehicle people can count on for spaciousness and responsive driving manners over time.
The Pilot’s refined ride and stout V6 support that impression, and the available 9-speed automatic is described as more refined and helpful for fuel economy. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a well-used example may show wear in the cabin and tech experience before it shows major mechanical trouble.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Pilot?
At 70.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on bodywork, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Focus on overall condition, because the Pilot’s practical strengths are easiest to enjoy when the cabin, controls, and safety systems are all in good shape.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX is the most basic version, while the EX adds remote start, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, LED fog lights, Smart Entry, tri-zone climate control, a 10-way power driver’s seat, and heated front seats. The EX-L adds leather upholstery, a power liftgate, a power moonroof, second-row in-door sunshades, and a 4-way power front passenger seat.
- Powertrain: Every trim uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. LX, EX, and EX-L use a 6-speed automatic, while Touring, Elite, and Black Edition use a 9-speed automatic that is described as more refined and better for fuel economy.
- Safety package: HondaSensing is standard and includes forward-collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is optional, so check whether a given listing has it.
- Infotainment: The LX gets a 5-inch color LCD screen, Bluetooth, USB, and a 7-speaker stereo. Other trims use an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while higher trims add navigation, rear-seat entertainment, a premium audio system, and mobile hotspot capability.
- Fuel efficiency: The most efficient setup is the FWD 9-speed configuration at 20 mpg city, 27 highway, 23 combined. The AWD 9-speed version returns 19 mpg city, 27 highway, 22 combined, while the 6-speed FWD setup returns 19 mpg city, 26 highway, 22 combined.
Which 2020 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?
The 2020 Honda Pilot is offered in 6 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Elite, and Black Edition.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the basics, including the standard V6, keyless entry, push-button start, and the base infotainment setup. It makes sense if you want the lowest price, but it leaves out the convenience and tech upgrades that make the Pilot easier to live with.
- EX: This is the best-value trim. It adds remote start, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, LED fog lights, Smart Entry, tri-zone climate control, a power driver’s seat, and heated front seats, which makes it the sweet spot for most shoppers.
- EX-L: This trim is for you if you want a more upscale cabin and more family convenience. Leather upholstery, a power liftgate, a power moonroof, and second-row sunshades make it a strong step up without jumping to the pricier upper trims.
- Touring: This trim adds 20-inch wheels, roof rails, ambient lighting, an upgraded stereo, and courtesy approach lights. It also gets the 9-speed automatic, so it suits you if you want more equipment and a more refined powertrain.
- Elite: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with power-folding mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, and heated and ventilated front seats. It’s the right pick if you want the most comfort-focused version short of the special edition.
- Black Edition: This is the range-topper, with black-painted wheels, black exterior accents, and nearly the same content as the Elite. Choose it if you want the most distinctive appearance and don’t mind paying for it.
HondaSensing is standard across the lineup, so you get the core safety suite no matter which trim you choose.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Pilot?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.
- Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,533 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.59% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 70.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,505, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Honda Pilot's resale value?
The current average of $22,526 sits slightly below last year's $24,375.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than on broad market momentum alone.
Because the Pilot still has strong family appeal and practical utility, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Honda Pilot safe?
The Honda Pilot earns a five-star overall crash test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and it earns the best crash test score of Good from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
HondaSensing is standard, and it includes forward-collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Front and side-impact airbags, child-seat anchors, Vehicle Stability Assist, and traction control are also standard.
If you want extra protection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is optional, along with front and rear parking sensors. That means you should verify the equipment list on any used listing rather than assuming every safety feature is included.
Should I buy a 2020 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 70.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.59% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines a roomy third row, strong standard safety, and a powerful V6.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $25,516, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,526 average.
- It emphasizes quality, utility, comfort, and simpler, more useful technology.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the smarter path because it offers strong space, safety, and owner satisfaction at a lower average price. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2021 is the better secondary path for buyers who prioritize a fresher take on the same basic formula.
