CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Genesis G70
overall

Summary
With 246 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,835.00, 26.8% of 2020 Genesis G70s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Genesis G70 4.62 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
61.4% of 2020 Genesis G70 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Genesis G70 stands out as a compact luxury sport sedan that blends style, speed, and a sense of individuality. It is described as an unknown star in the segment, and its appeal comes partly from the fact that it does not blend into the crowd. The car’s quilted stitching and valet service add to the upscale feel, while its stylish design and strong performance help it make a memorable impression.
It also has a reputation for being a good value, with the source calling out excellent value for money and a fantastic warranty. That combination makes the 2020 Genesis G70 especially appealing to buyers who want something sporty and premium without chasing the most obvious badge. The main drawback noted in the test-drive data is outdated technology, and owner feedback also points to limited backseat leg room and trunk space, so it is not the most practical choice in its class.

The G70 2.0T is a much better sports sedan than my previous car the2016 IS200t. Interior is very premium with way more standard features than the IS. Seats are very comfortable and there is very little turbo lag in comparison to the Lexus. Other than Reliability the G70 2.0T is a much better vehicle. It is very fun to drive and the rarity of the car is just the icing on the cake. It definitely combines the best of the Germans and Japanese automakers. The Genesis G70 is what the Lexus IS should have been.

Outstanding. In city traffic it has proximity visibility beyond that of similar autos. The manual transmission is smooth, acceleration reliably quick and the transmission gates positive. The clutch friction point is visible on the tach but not a drag on the torque curve.

Is the 2020 Genesis G70 a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Genesis G70 earns a 4.62/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating.
The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its excellent value for money, strong performance, and luxurious interior. The car also gets credit for being fun to drive, with acceleration and handling that stand out in daily use.
The trade-offs are clear: the technology feels outdated, and the cabin can be tight in the back seat with limited trunk space.

The expert evaluation also reinforces that impression by describing it as a car that will reward its driver for years to come.
You also get a meaningful ownership perk: the included maintenance coverage and pickup/dropoff service help reduce early upkeep hassle.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the car was maintained properly and used in a way that matches its sporty character.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Genesis G70?
At 63.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been driven hard or modified. Focus on condition details that matter most in a sporty luxury sedan: tire wear, brake condition, interior wear, and evidence of accident repair.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The higher trims add more upscale cabin materials and equipment, while lower trims lose the soft leather and quilting that make the interior feel especially premium.
- Powertrain: The base 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder makes 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, while the optional 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 delivers 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque for much stronger acceleration.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping function, forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, auto high beams, a driver attention monitor, and a driver’s knee airbag.
- Infotainment: The touchscreen is 8 inches, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0T AWD is rated at 20/27/23, the 2.0T RWD automatic at 22/30/25, and the V6 setup averaged less than 21 mpg in testing.
Which 2020 Genesis G70 trim should I buy?
The 2020 Genesis G70 is offered in 4 trim levels: Advanced, Elite, Prestige, Sport.
Here's the short version:
- Advanced: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the G70’s core style and driving character at the lowest price. It gives you the basic formula, but you give up some of the richer cabin and convenience upgrades found higher up.
- Elite: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 15-speaker Lexicon stereo, parking sensors, heated front seats, and a power steering column. If you want a more complete luxury experience without stretching to the top trim, this is the sweet spot.
- Prestige: Choose this if you want more comfort-focused equipment, including a heated steering wheel and rain-sensing wipers. It suits you if you care more about daily convenience than chasing the sportiest setup.
- Sport: This is the most aggressive choice, with a more athletic look and feel, plus a power closing trunk lid for 2020. It also brings the strongest performance-oriented hardware in the lineup, so it fits you best if driving enjoyment matters most.
Safety equipment is broadly standard across the lineup, so trim choice is more about comfort, audio, and performance than basic protection.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Genesis G70?
The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 258 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.71% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 63.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,599.99, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Genesis G70's resale value?
The current average of $20,685 sits slightly below last year's $23,166.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, the upside is that a well-kept G70 with the right equipment and history can still stand out because it offers a distinctive mix of style, performance, and value.
If you buy carefully, the current pricing gives you a better chance to preserve value than if you paid closer to the earlier average. Strong condition and a clean history matter especially here because shoppers in this segment tend to compare against better-known luxury rivals.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Genesis G70 safe?
It is a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety suite includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping function, forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, auto high beams, and a driver attention monitor. A driver’s knee airbag is also included.
One caveat is that the 2020 G70 has not been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Should I buy a 2020 Genesis G70 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.71% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 brings a strong value proposition, standout style, and a top-tier safety result.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $19,583, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $20,685 average.
- It is the first ground-up Genesis G70 and already feels impressively polished.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $22,994, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $20,685 average.
- It adds minor updates and feature shuffling while keeping the same basic formula.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, style, and performance, the 2020 is the primary target. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 can save you money while still delivering the core G70 experience. If you want a slightly newer example and are willing to pay more, the 2021 is worth a look, but the 2020 remains the sweet spot for most used-car shoppers.
