overall

Summary
With 252 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,681, 29.4% of 2020 Genesis G70s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Genesis G70 4.62 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Genesis G70 stands out as a compact luxury sport sedan that blends style, speed, and a sense of individuality. It is described as an unknown star in the segment, and its appeal comes partly from the fact that it does not blend into the crowd. The car’s quilted stitching and valet service add to its upscale character, while its stylish design and excellent value for money make it especially attractive to buyers looking for something distinctive.
That personality comes with a few tradeoffs. The G70 is praised for strong performance, and owners often highlight its acceleration and handling as reasons it is fun to drive. At the same time, the car’s outdated technology is a notable drawback, and some reviewers mention limited backseat leg room and trunk space. Even so, the 2020 Genesis G70 remains appealing for shoppers who want a small luxury sedan with a premium feel and a strong value proposition.

The G70 2.0T is a much better sports sedan than my previous car the2016 IS200t. Interior is very premium with way more standard features than the IS. Seats are very comfortable and there is very little turbo lag in comparison to the Lexus. Other than Reliability the G70 2.0T is a much better vehicle. It is very fun to drive and the rarity of the car is just the icing on the cake. It definitely combines the best of the Germans and Japanese automakers. The Genesis G70 is what the Lexus IS should have been.

Outstanding. In city traffic it has proximity visibility beyond that of similar autos. The manual transmission is smooth, acceleration reliably quick and the transmission gates positive. The clutch friction point is visible on the tach but not a drag on the torque curve.

The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by emphasizing the car’s strong warranty coverage and the sense that it will reward its driver for years to come.
The ownership picture is helped by the included maintenance coverage and long warranty support, which reduce early-life cost concerns. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic dependability and more about whether the specific car has been maintained well and still feels fresh inside and out.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Genesis G70?
At 66.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. After that, focus on the cabin and cargo area, since owners and reviewers repeatedly mention limited rear-seat and trunk space. It also makes sense to confirm that the technology and driver-assistance features work as expected, because the car’s infotainment is a known weak point.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Lower trims lose the quilted leather and richer cabin materials found on Prestige and Sport models, while the higher trims add a more upscale feel and more aggressive styling.
- Powertrain: The base 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder makes 252 hp and 260 lb-ft, while the optional 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 delivers 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft for much stronger acceleration.
- Safety package: A broad suite of driver-assistance features comes standard, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping function, forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, auto high beams, and a driver attention monitor.
- Infotainment: The touchscreen is 8-inch, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0T AWD is rated at 20/27/23, the 2.0T RWD automatic at 22/30/25, and the V6 test car averaged less than 21 mpg over 600 miles.
Which 2020 Genesis G70 trim should I buy?
The 2020 Genesis G70 is offered in 4 trim levels: Advanced, Elite, Prestige, and Sport.
Here's the short version:
- Advanced: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the G70’s core style and performance at the lowest starting price, but you give up some of the richer cabin and convenience upgrades found higher up.
- Elite: This is the best-value trim if you want a stronger equipment mix, since it adds the 15-speaker Lexicon stereo, parking sensors, heated front seats, and a power steering column.
- Prestige: Choose this if you want more comfort-focused upgrades, including a heated steering wheel and rain-sensing wipers.
- Sport: This is the pick if you want the most aggressive setup, with the more performance-oriented look and hardware, plus a power closing trunk lid for 2020.
Safety equipment is broadly standard across the lineup, so you can shop trims based more on comfort, audio, and performance preferences than on major safety-package differences.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Genesis G70?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to compare options but still some room for negotiation.
- Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 251 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.97% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 66.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,602, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Genesis G70's resale value?
The current average of $20,783 sits slightly below last year's $23,084.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been kept up over time.
Because the G70 still has strong appeal as a stylish, well-equipped luxury sport sedan, a clean example should remain easier to move than a neglected one. The combination of value, performance, and owner satisfaction should help support demand when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Genesis G70 safe?
The 2020 G70 is a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), for scoring the best ratings in six crash tests, headlights, and for its standard forward emergency braking.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
A broad suite of driver-assistance features comes standard, including adaptive cruise control and a lane-keeping function that work together as a semi-automated system on marked highways. Standard equipment also includes pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, auto high beams, a driver attention monitor, and a driver’s knee airbag.
One caveat is that the car has not been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Should I buy a 2020 Genesis G70 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 66.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.97% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 brings strong value, standout style, and a warranty-backed ownership story.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $19,743, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $20,783 average.
- It is the first all-new, ground-up Genesis sedan and helped define the brand.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $22,813, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $20,783 average.
- It adds minor updates that shuffle trims and features while keeping the same basic formula.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, style, and value, the 2020 is the sweet spot. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense if you want the newer-year alternative and are willing to pay more.
