CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Genesis G70
overall

Summary
With 253 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,817, 29.6% of 2020 Genesis G70s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Genesis G70 4.62 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
64.4% of 2020 G70 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Genesis G70 stands out as a compact luxury sport sedan that blends style, speed, and a sense of individuality. It is described as an unknown star in the segment, and its appeal comes partly from the fact that it does not blend into the crowd. The car’s quilted stitching and valet service add to its upscale character, while its stylish design and excellent value for money make it especially attractive to buyers looking for something distinctive.
That personality comes with a few tradeoffs. The G70 is praised for strong performance, and owners often highlight its acceleration and handling as reasons it is fun to drive. At the same time, the car’s outdated technology is a notable drawback, and some reviewers mention limited backseat leg room and trunk space. Even so, the 2020 Genesis G70 remains appealing for shoppers who want a small luxury sedan with a premium feel and a strong value proposition.

The G70 2.0T is a much better sports sedan than my previous car the2016 IS200t. Interior is very premium with way more standard features than the IS. Seats are very comfortable and there is very little turbo lag in comparison to the Lexus. Other than Reliability the G70 2.0T is a much better vehicle. It is very fun to drive and the rarity of the car is just the icing on the cake. It definitely combines the best of the Germans and Japanese automakers. The Genesis G70 is what the Lexus IS should have been.

Outstanding. In city traffic it has proximity visibility beyond that of similar autos. The manual transmission is smooth, acceleration reliably quick and the transmission gates positive. The clutch friction point is visible on the tach but not a drag on the torque curve.

Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback also points to a car that feels reliable, dependable, and trouble-free enough to inspire confidence over time. The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by describing the G70 as a premium, well-oiled machine that should reward its driver for years to come.
You also get a major ownership perk in the form of a five-year/60,000-mile warranty, a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and three-year/36,000-mile included maintenance with pickup/dropoff service and loaners. For a used buyer, the main long-term risk is that a neglected example could erase some of that durability advantage, so service history matters.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Genesis G70?
At 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or multiple owners. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the cabin electronics and driving aids all work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base trim loses the soft leather and quilting found on higher trims, while Prestige and Sport models add quilted Nappa leather, richer cabin materials, and a more upscale feel.
- Powertrain: The base car uses a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder with 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, while the optional 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 delivers 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque for much stronger acceleration.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping function, forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, auto high beams, and a driver attention monitor. Navigation is optional.
- Infotainment: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, and the base touchscreen is 8 inches. The Elite trim adds a 15-speaker Lexicon stereo, parking sensors, heated front seats, and a power steering column.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0T AWD is rated 20/27/23, the 2.0T RWD automatic is 22/30/25, and the V6 test car averaged less than 21 mpg over 600 miles.
Which 2020 Genesis G70 trim should I buy?
The 2020 Genesis G70 is offered in 4 trim levels: Advanced, Elite, Prestige, Sport.
Here's the short version:
- Advanced: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the G70’s core style, performance, and value without paying for extra luxury features.
- Elite: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 15-speaker Lexicon stereo, parking sensors, heated front seats, and a power steering column.
- Prestige: Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin, since it adds a heated steering wheel and rain-sensing wipers.
- Sport: This is the most performance-focused choice, with larger Brembo brakes, two-stage adaptive dampers, wider rear tires, and a power closing trunk lid for 2020.
Higher trims bring more luxury and convenience, while the Sport trim adds the most hardware-focused upgrades.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Genesis G70?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.
- Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 256 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.42% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 64.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,602, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Genesis G70's resale value?
The current average of $20,796 sits slightly below last year's $23,216.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than just the badge alone.
Well-kept examples with desirable trims and strong service records should hold up better than neglected ones. If you buy carefully now, you improve your odds of getting a more stable return later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Genesis G70 safe?
The 2020 G70 is a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, auto high beams, and a driver attention monitor. A driver’s knee airbag is also included.
One caveat is that navigation is optional, and the safety story is strongest on the standard equipment side rather than on a long list of trim-specific upgrades.
Should I buy a 2020 Genesis G70 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.42% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It pairs standout style with strong value and a premium-feeling cabin.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $19,652, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $20,796 average.
- It’s the first ground-up Genesis G70 and established the model’s sporty, value-focused identity.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $22,944, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $20,796 average.
- It brings minor updates, including a shuffling of trim levels and features.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, style, and performance, the 2020 is the sweet spot. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense only if you want the newer-year premium and are comfortable paying more.
