How much does the 2020 Ford Mustang cost?

Prices have softened 3.16% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,227 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Ford Mustang earns a 4.73/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its power, fun driving experience, and stylish looks, and they also appreciate the comfort of the seats and the range of engine choices. The trade-offs are familiar for a sports car: limited practicality and a ride that can feel less polished in some situations, with some reviewers also noting that the automatic transmission could be smoother.

For you, that means this Mustang makes the most sense if you want character, performance, and style more than everyday utility. Good and great deals account for 33.9% of listings, so there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang reliable?

Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in the ways enthusiasts care about most: strong power delivery, enjoyable driving manners, and a package that keeps owners happy over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Mustang’s durable, enthusiast-focused character and its ability to deliver performance without losing its core identity.

Ford’s performance-oriented setup and straightforward mechanical character can be appealing if you want a car that’s built around driving enjoyment rather than complexity. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that condition and maintenance history matter a lot more than mileage alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Mustang?

At 67.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on body condition, tire wear, brake condition, and signs that the car has been used as intended rather than gently. Because this is a performance car, small signs of neglect can matter more than they would on a commuter car.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Bullitt stands out with its Dark Highland Green theme, subtle chrome accents, retro 19-inch wheels, serialized plaque, unique green stitching, and white cue-ball shifter knob. It also carries a higher price, and the interior’s cheaper plastic pieces are harder to overlook at that level.
• Powertrain: The lineup spans a 310-horsepower turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder, a 460-horsepower 5.0-liter V8, a 526-horsepower 5.2-liter V8 in the Shelby GT350 and GT350R, and a 760-horsepower supercharged 5.2-liter V8 in the Shelby GT500. The Bullitt adds 20 horsepower over a Mustang GT and uses a six-speed manual only.
• Safety package: The standard setup includes antilock braking, traction control, stability control, a reversing camera, MyKey, and opt-in 911 Assist. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is available with the Electronics Package, and advanced safety features are not standard.
• Infotainment: The car uses a recessed 8-inch touchscreen with Sync 3, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and an available 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. The system is functional, but its age shows in slower response.
• Fuel efficiency: The EcoBoost Mustang returns 21 mpg city, 31 highway, 25 combined. The Bullitt sits at 14/23/17, and the Shelby GT500 returns 12/18/14.

Which 2020 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford Mustang is offered in 1 trim level: Bullitt.

Here's the short version:

The Bullitt is the standout choice if you want the Mustang’s nostalgic styling and stronger performance character in one package. It builds on the Mustang GT with Premium and Performance packages, adds 20 horsepower, and brings the four-mode active exhaust system that gives it a more distinctive personality. It suits you best if you value the special-edition look and the manual-transmission driving experience more than everyday convenience.

The safety-package note is simple: blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is available only with the optional Electronics Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Mustang?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to make shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,227 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.16% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,007, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $25,955 sits slightly below last year's $26,801.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more car for the money today. For a future seller, it also means resale value will likely depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. Well-kept examples should hold up better than neglected ones because enthusiast demand tends to stay strongest for clean, desirable cars.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2020 Ford Mustang gets good crash-test results overall from IIHS, with an Acceptable rating for driver protection in a small overlap frontal-impact collision, and it earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA test, including rollover resistance.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety setup includes antilock braking, traction control, stability control, a reversing camera, MyKey, and opt-in 911 Assist. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is available with the optional Electronics Package, so you should not assume those features are included on every car.

The main caveat is that advanced driver-assistance features are limited, so you should not expect the kind of broad safety tech coverage found in many newer mainstream cars.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.16% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The Bullitt special edition captures the model’s nostalgic performance character especially well.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,561, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $25,955 average.
• Ford adds the Mach 1 trim, expanding the lineup with a new performance-focused option.

The bottom line: Choose the 2020 if you want the stronger value proposition and are focused on the Mustang’s classic appeal. Consider the 2021 if you’re willing to pay more for a broader trim lineup and the added Mach 1 option.
