CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Dodge Durango
overall

Summary
With 192 currently listed for sale near Birmingham, AL and an average price of $21,488, 24.5% of 2020 Dodge Durangos for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Dodge Durango 4.56 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
74.5% of 2020 Durango models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Dodge Durango stands out by blending three-row SUV practicality with muscle-car styling cues and a lineup of potent engines. Dodge even positions it as one of its “three muscle cars,” and the Durango backs up that image with high-horsepower trims that match the look. It is also a seven-passenger family hauler, which gives it a broader appeal than a typical performance-oriented SUV.
That mix of style and performance comes with some tradeoffs. The Durango gives up a bit of usability compared with segment leaders, and it feels a bit dated next to them. Still, it remains appealing for buyers who want a spacious SUV with multiple powertrain options and easy-to-use technology. Its drawbacks are worth noting as well: advanced safety features are not standard, and the styling is described as uninspired in one part of the source, even though the overall design is also presented as one of its main attractions.

Like the overall design and look of this vehicle, it has a stylish appearance. The exterior is very attractive and clean, the interior is just as impressive. Although I’ve never actually seen it in person I’ve seen other versions (different colors), very sleek. Exceptional quality for the mileage. It could be a little less expensive, but the way everything is more expensive today it seems like a deal.

Initially, looked good from the outside. Inside and test drive was a different story. Formerly a police vehicle. Rear seats didn't fold, had steel frame for the cage still installed. Back storage area floor is all steel. Took it for a short test drive and the front end shook like crazy. No thanks.

Great all around vehicle. Can tow pretty much any small to medium sized car, hauls anything you can imagine once you fold the 2nd and 3rd row seats down, including a full sized treadmill! Comfortable family vehicle that gets good mileage for its size with the cylinder deactivation feature.

The expert notes also emphasize that the Durango is a practical, family-oriented SUV with multiple powertrain choices, which can help you match the vehicle to your needs. If you’re shopping used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific example you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Dodge Durango?
At 69.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a lower asking price. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment on the trim you want is actually present and working.
Key things to evaluate:
Trim level: The SXT comes standard with 18-inch wheels, three-zone climate control, manually adjustable front seats, a 7-inch digital instrument panel screen, dual USB ports, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a six-speaker stereo. The GT adds 20-inch wheels, a sport-inspired grille, remote start, LED fog lights, dual exhaust, a power rear liftgate, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and satellite radio. The R/T adds rain-sensing wipers, a four-way power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, memory settings for the driver’s seat and power-adjustable tilt-telescoping steering wheel, leather-and-suede upholstery, heated front seats, heated rear seats, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Citadel adds unique chrome exterior touches, 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, a power moonroof, second-row captains chairs with a center console, and premium leather upholstery. The SRT adds an aggressive lower front fascia, auto-leveling headlights, 20-inch black wheels, ventilated front seats, and unique leather-and-suede seats with an embossed SRT logo.
Powertrain: The SXT, GT, and Citadel come standard with a 3.6-liter V6 making 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The R/T uses a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque, and that engine is also available on the Citadel. The SRT gets a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. All engines use an 8-speed automatic transmission with rear-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive depending on trim.
Safety package: The Durango comes with a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and trailer sway control. Rear parking sensors are available on the SXT and standard on all other trims, while the R/T, Citadel, and SRT add front- and rear parking sensors. The Technology Group package adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision avoidance, and lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring plus rear cross-path detection are also available. Those driver-assistance features are not standard.
Infotainment: The SXT and GT come with a 7-inch touchscreen, while an 8.4-inch touchscreen is optional on the GT and standard on all other trims. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. R/T, Citadel, and SRT trims add navigation and SiriusXM Travel Link with real-time traffic and weather updates, plus an Alpine premium audio system with nine speakers and a subwoofer. Those trims are also available with a 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system.
Fuel efficiency: The base V6 with rear-wheel drive returns 19 mpg city, 26 highway, 21 combined. With all-wheel drive, it returns 18/25/21 combined. The 5.7-liter V8 returns 14/22/17, and the SRT returns 13/19/15.
Which 2020 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?
The 2020 Dodge Durango is offered in 5 trim levels: SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T, and SRT.
Here's the short version:
SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Durango’s core space, standard V6 power, and a 7-inch touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and don’t need the extra comfort or convenience features found higher up.
GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale look, remote start, LED fog lights, a power liftgate, and a power driver’s seat without jumping into V8 pricing. If you want a well-equipped daily driver, this is the trim to focus on first.
Citadel: This is the comfort-leaning choice, with chrome accents, a moonroof, premium leather, and second-row captains chairs. It suits you if you want a more upscale family SUV and are willing to pay more for the added luxury feel.
R/T: This is the right pick if you want the V8 experience, stronger acceleration, and more standard convenience features like heated seats and navigation. It’s the trim to choose if performance matters as much as family utility.
SRT: This is the enthusiast choice, with the most powerful engine, performance-tuned suspension, Brembo brakes, and performance pages. Buy this only if you want the Durango’s most aggressive character and are comfortable paying for it.
The Technology Group package adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision avoidance, and lane-departure warning, but those features are not standard on any trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Dodge Durango?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully but not so much that every listing is a bargain.
- Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,360 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.41% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,375, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Dodge Durango's resale value?
The current average of $21,376 sits slightly below last year's $23,597.
That price movement suggests the Durango has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you purchase near the current average or below it, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell.
The market also appears to reward well-kept examples, especially when they’re priced competitively and have the right equipment. Strong demand for a spacious, performance-oriented three-row SUV can help support resale, but condition and trim matter a lot.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Dodge Durango safe?
The Durango earns a four-star rating from NHTSA. It earns five stars in side crash testing and four stars in all other phases. It earned a score of Moderate for driver’s side small-front overlap testing from IIHS, and Good in all other crash tests.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The Durango comes with a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and trailer sway control. Rear parking sensors are available on the SXT and standard on all other trims, while the R/T, Citadel, and SRT add front- and rear parking sensors.
The main safety caveat is that the Durango does not come standard with high-tech driver-assistance features. Adaptive cruise control, forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-path detection are all optional through the Technology Group or other available equipment.
Should I buy a 2020 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.41% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It blends three-row practicality with muscle-car styling and multiple high-horsepower trims.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $27,339, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $21,376 average.
- It adds a new SRT Hellcat variant.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for the newer model’s headline performance upgrade, the 2021 is the stronger choice.
