The Cadillac Escalade ESV, the extended-wheelbase version of the full-size luxury SUV, was last redesigned in 2015. Cadillac is expected to revamp the Escalade again in the coming year or so, and it carries over mostly unchanged for 2020. The Escalade ESV features a length of 224.3 inches, compared to the regular Escalade’s 203.9 inches, which makes the exterior more imposing while adding more room inside for passengers and cargo. Otherwise, the design is similar to the base Escalade, with imposing front and rear ends, a massive grille, and tall LED taillights. The Escalade ESV includes a 6.2-liter V8 engine that makes 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. It pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Buyers have the choice of rear-wheel drive (RWD) or optional 4-wheel drive (4WD). The Escalade ESV can tow up to 8,100 pounds when properly equipped, 200 less than the regular-wheelbase model. With RWD, the Escalade is rated for 14 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 17 combined, and 4WD versions are estimated to return 14/21/17. The Escalade can be configured to seat up to eight passengers, with choice of a second-row bench or captain’s chairs, and each of its four trims can be configured as an ESV extended-wheelbase. The Standard trim gets 20-inch alloy wheels, power heated side mirrors, and a 110-volt power outlet. The Luxury trim includes 22-inch wheels, a power sunroof, and power second-row captain’s chairs. Platinum Luxury adds illuminated door handles and a Blu-Ray/DVD-compatible backseat entertainment system. The top-tier Platinum trim gets an exclusive 22-inch wheel design, power-retracting side access steps, and dual backseat entertainment displays. Every Escalade ESV gets an 8-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth, a Bose 16-speaker audio system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation, and a WiFi hot spot. The Escalade ESV has not received an overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Every Escalade ESV includes a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, the Teen Driver safety system, and a safety alert seat. With Luxury, you get forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic high beams. Finally, Premium Luxury includes forward and reverse automatic braking and seat belts that tighten automatically to protect occupants in a collision. It’s hard to imagine needing more from the Cadillac Escalade, but the ability to turn any configuration into an extended-wheelbase version will satisfy that requirement.
