The 2020 BMW 5 Series sits in the seventh-generation G30 family, which had already shifted the nameplate toward a more comfortable luxury sedan with only a bit of the old sporting edge. For 2020, BMW added a larger battery to the plug-in hybrid version, giving it 21 miles of all-electric range, and also added 67 horsepower and 73 lb-ft of torque to the M550i. That same year, the 5 Series continued to offer a broad spread of powertrains, from the 530i’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque to the 540i’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline six with 335 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. The lineup also included the 530e plug-in hybrid, the 540d diesel, and the M550i xDrive with its 4.4-liter turbocharged V8, making the G30 one of the more varied midsize luxury sedans of its time.
The 2020 5 Series also stood out for its safety equipment and technology. Every model came standard with blind spot monitoring, lane departure warnings with lane keep assist, rear cross-traffic alerts, traffic sign recognition, and automatic high beams, while features such as hands-free parking, adaptive cruise control, and surround view monitoring remained optional. Buyers also got BMW’s iDrive system and a cabin that reviewers generally liked for its comfort and equipment, though some noted that the steering and suspension did not feel as engaging as older 5 Series models and that upkeep could still be costly.

I was skeptical on the power of the M550 since Im coming from a boosted mustang, but the acceleration impresses me. Lots of cool features, too many if you ask me. Remote start is missing from the 2020 and older M550s.
