The Audi S5, the performance variant of the A5 line, was redesigned in 2018 and received minor updates for 2019. For 2020, the S5 Coupe and Cabriolet get an updated infotainment system and some styling upgrades. Competitors include the BMW 4 Series, Volvo S60, Infiniti Q60, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

The S5’s low, aggressive stance gets updated this year with a wider signature honeycomb grille. New bumper trim, front and rear, complements the new side sills and trapezoid-shaped exhaust outlets. LED lighting comes standard.

The S5’s powertrain remains unchanged across the lineup and consists of a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive (AWD). Power checks in at 349 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, and the S5 Coupe is rated for fuel economy of 20 mpg city, 27 highway, and 23 combined; the Cabriolet is rated at 19, 26, and 22. Selectable drive modes include Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, and Individual settings, and the S Sport package includes an adaptive suspension system.

The S5 is available in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims. Standard features include 12-way power front seats, heated front seats, a flat-bottom sport steering wheel with paddle shifters, a panoramic sunroof, and LED ambient lighting. Options include keyless entry, push-button start, and a hands-free trunk.

The 2020 S5 gets upgraded with a new standard 10.1-inch touchscreen display and the new MIB 3 infotainment system. Other standard features include voice controls, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, and Bluetooth, and options include a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.

The Audi S5 does not get crash-tested independently of the base Audi A5. For 2019, the A5 Coupe earned the top score of Good in five crash tests from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Safety features include a reversing camera, rain-sensing windshield wipers, the Audi Pre-Sense Basic collision-preparation system, and the Audi Pre-Sense City pedestrian detection system. Available features include adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic assist, traffic-sign recognition, a head-up display (HUD), active lane assist, and park assist.

The Audi S5’s updated stying might not have been necessary, but a faster and more advanced infotainment system is always a welcome update. The S5 remains a sharp choice in the luxury sedan segment.
