CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Acura TLX
overall

Summary
With 695 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,392, 28.1% of 2020 Acura TLXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Acura TLX 4.62 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.83 / 10.
67.8% of 2020 TLX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Acura TLX stands out as a luxury sedan aimed at drivers who still care about the experience behind the wheel. In all-wheel-drive form, it is described as a car that can make a familiar road feel engaging again, and Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive is singled out as the setup that gives the TLX its most entertaining character. That focus on driving enjoyment is a key part of what makes the TLX distinctive, especially for buyers who want a Japanese luxury brand with a more enthusiast-oriented personality.
At the same time, the 2020 Acura TLX is not presented as a perfect all-around package. Its strengths include multiple powertrain options and excellent value for money, but its drawbacks are equally clear: poor ergonomic design and outdated technology. Owner feedback echoes that split, with praise for the smooth ride, handling, and overall features, alongside criticism of the interior layout and some controls. For shoppers, that makes the TLX appealing if driving feel and value matter more than the most modern cabin or the most intuitive interface.

All the features you would expect to have in a new car today. Luxury car brand come standard with features like all leather interior with more comfortable seats at the base trim level. V6 engine in this sedan gives the car a good power to weight ratio and easily runs through all gears in the 9 speed transmission. Always feel like there is more power available, in each gear when driving in the highway.

Yes — the 4.62/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 6.83/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, handling, overall features, and appealing exterior design. The TLX also fits you well if you want a luxury sedan with a more engaging driving personality and multiple powertrain choices.
The trade-offs are clear: the interior layout can be frustrating, and the technology is dated and unintuitive. If you value driving feel and value more than a modern cabin, the TLX makes a stronger case.
Only 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is selective rather than flooded with bargains.
Is the 2020 Acura TLX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a car that many drivers find smooth, dependable, and easy to live with over time. The expert review also emphasizes that the TLX can be a comfortable, quiet daily driver, which supports the sense that it’s built for steady long-term use.
The cost-effectiveness review adds that Acura’s positioning makes the TLX a value-oriented luxury sedan, and that helps ownership feel more manageable. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about living with aging technology and control ergonomics.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Acura TLX?
At 67.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a lower asking price. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin electronics and driver-assistance features work as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The A-Spec option package adds 19-inch wheels, revised bumper designs, side sill skirts, and oversize round exhaust outlets, while the Technology Package adds comfort, convenience, safety, and infotainment upgrades. The base car is the one most likely to miss those enhancements.
- Powertrain: You can get a standard 206-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic, or a 290-hp, 3.5-liter V6 with a 9-speed automatic and torque-vectoring SH-AWD. The V6 builds power smoothly and the SH-AWD setup is the most engaging choice.
- Safety package: Every TLX has adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is included on all but the base TLX with no option packages.
- Infotainment: The TLX uses dual screens, with a non-touch top display and a touchscreen below it. It also has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but the layout is dated and can be frustrating to use.
- Fuel efficiency: The expert testing loop returned 23 mpg in combined driving, matching the EPA estimate cited in the review.
Which 2020 Acura TLX trim should I buy?
The 2020 Acura TLX is offered in 3 trim levels: base TLX, Technology Package, and A-Spec Package.
Here's the short version:
- base TLX: This is the entry point, but it’s the one most likely to leave you without the blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert that come on higher versions. Buy this only if price matters most and you’re comfortable with the simplest setup.
- Technology Package: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds the comfort, convenience, safety, and infotainment upgrades CarGurus specifically recommends. If you want the most balanced used TLX, start here.
- A-Spec Package: Choose this if you want the sportier look, with 19-inch wheels, revised bumpers, side sill skirts, and oversize round exhaust outlets. It suits you best if styling matters and you want the TLX to feel more distinctive.
Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is included on all but the base TLX with no option packages.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Acura TLX?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 698 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.38% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 67.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,121, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Acura TLX's resale value?
The current average of $22,354 sits slightly below last year's $22,667.
That modest decline suggests the TLX has softened a bit in the used market, which can help you buy at a more favorable point. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained.
Because the price range is relatively tight, a clean, well-kept example should hold its appeal better than one with visible wear or a rough history. Strong equipment and the more desirable trims can also help keep buyer interest steady.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Acura TLX safe?
The 2020 Acura TLX does not qualify for a Top Safety Pick due to an Acceptable rather than Good result in the small overlap frontal-impact test on the driver’s side. It earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA test, including the rollover test.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Every TLX includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is included on all but the base TLX with no option packages.
The main caveat is that the driver-assistance systems can feel abrupt and less refined than newer rivals, so you may notice more intervention than you’d like.
Should I buy a 2020 Acura TLX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 67.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.38% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 stands out for its strong value, engaging SH-AWD-equipped driving character, and multiple powertrain choices.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $26,921, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,354 average.
- It brings a new platform, new exterior and interior, and updated powertrain choices.
The bottom line: If you want the better value and don’t mind older tech, the 2020 is the smarter buy. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer design and a more modern overall feel, the 2021 is the upgrade path to consider.
