CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Acura MDX
overall

Summary
With 906 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,492.00, 31.8% of 2020 Acura MDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Acura MDX 4.71 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
61.6% of 2020 MDX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Acura MDX stands out as Acura’s three-row crossover and a long-running flagship for the brand. It has built a strong reputation over three generations of production since 2001, and its appeal comes from delivering a well-rounded mix of comfort, convenience, and technology rather than chasing a single standout trait. That balance has helped make it the best-selling three-row luxury SUV of all time.
For shoppers, the MDX’s biggest strengths are its spacious cabin and standard advanced safety features. Those qualities make it especially appealing as a family vehicle, and owner feedback echoes that theme by praising its spaciousness, safety features, comfort, and power. At the same time, the 2020 MDX is not without drawbacks: its styling is described as uninspired, and its technology is considered outdated, with some owners also feeling the tech content does not match the price.

I really like the Acura MDX. It has MANY extra features on it that make it a safe and comfortable ride, has three rows of seats for major roominess/cargo carrying and I got it at a great price. Its a beautiful SUV. I had a previous MDX for 12 years and literally had 0 major repairs with it. Comparable models are the Lexus RX, which honestly has more responsiveness in handling, but not three row seating unless you pay $10,000 more and also has a rather strange look to it. The closest competition for my money is the BMW X3, which is a smaller 2 row SUV but is very comfortable and has amazing responsiveness in handling. I think visually it is a stunning car. BMWs reliability and cost of repair is concerning to me, but that will probably be my next SUV.

|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $24,415 |
| Year-Round Low | $24,157.79 |
| Year-Round High | $26,866.53 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $26,866 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.12% |

If you find a listing below $24,157.79, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Acura MDX earns a 4.71/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating.
The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners repeatedly praise its spacious cabin, safety features, comfort, and power. That lines up well with the MDX’s family-friendly use case, since it’s built to serve as a three-row luxury SUV that balances convenience and everyday usability. The main trade-offs are uninspired styling and technology that some owners feel is outdated for the price.
Only 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the best examples may not sit on the market long.
Is the 2020 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, with praise for its comfort, power, and overall family-friendly usefulness. The expert evaluation also emphasizes solid performance and a well-rounded package that has supported repeat buyers over time. Acura’s maintenance-friendly ownership pitch is reinforced by the fact that the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the vehicle’s age and tech content still match your expectations.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Acura MDX?
At 62.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings at similar prices. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and evidence of prior bodywork or repair quality. Because the MDX is often bought as a family hauler, make sure the cabin, seating, and electronics all work the way you expect.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base MDX is nicely equipped with twin infotainment screens, a high-mounted 8.0-inch navigation display, and a simple, solid-feeling cabin, but it lacks the extra tech features that define the higher packages.
- Powertrain: You get a 290-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 with a nine-speed automatic and either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive; the Sport Hybrid adds a 3.0-liter V6 and three electric motors for 321 hp and all-wheel drive.
- Safety package: Standard AcuraWatch includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is added with the Technology Package, and Head-Up Warning comes with the Advance Package.
- Infotainment: The base setup includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri Eyes Free, Bluetooth, text and email capability, five USB ports, SiriusXM, and an eight-speaker audio system. The Technology Package adds navigation, Acura Real-Time Traffic, remote engine start, and a 9.0-inch screen, while the Advance Package upgrades to a 16.2-inch Ultra-Wide Full VGA screen.
- Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive model is rated at 20 mpg city/27 mpg highway/23 mpg combined, while SH-AWD returns 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway/22 mpg combined. The Sport Hybrid SH-AWD is rated at 26 mpg city/27 mpg highway/27 mpg combined.
Which 2020 Acura MDX trim should I buy?
The 2020 Acura MDX is offered in 3 trim levels: MDX, Technology Package, Advance Package.
Here's the short version:
- MDX: This is the value play if you want the core MDX experience at the lowest entry price. You still get standard AcuraWatch, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB ports, and the MDX’s spacious, well-built cabin, but you give up the extra convenience and driver-assist upgrades found higher up.
- Technology Package: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds navigation, Acura Real-Time Traffic, remote engine start, rain-sensing wipers, parking sensors, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. It also brings the upgraded audio system and a more complete tech setup without jumping all the way to the top trim.
- Advance Package: Choose this if you want the most comfort and convenience features, including heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, a surround-view camera system, Head-Up Warning, and the larger 16.2-inch display. It’s the right pick if you want the most premium MDX experience.
The Technology Package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, while the Advance Package adds Head-Up Warning.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Acura MDX?

- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.12% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $24,157.79, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $24,415 sits slightly below last year's $26,866.
That price decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future sellers if they buy at today’s lower level. If you shop carefully now, you may reduce the risk of overpaying and improve your odds of holding value later. The MDX’s broad appeal as a three-row luxury SUV should continue to support demand, especially for well-kept examples.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Acura MDX safe?
It earns good ratings from IIHS across all crash-test categories and a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard AcuraWatch suite includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. The Technology Package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, while the Advance Package adds Head-Up Warning. You also get a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines, multiple airbags, stability control, traction control, motion-adaptive steering, Trailer Stability Assist on all-wheel-drive models, tire-pressure monitoring, LATCH mounts, and a theft-deterrent system.
Should I buy a 2020 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.12% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines standard AcuraWatch safety with a well-rounded three-row luxury package.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $22,099, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $24,415 average.
- It emphasizes steady refinement and a smooth, practical three-row experience.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market mix of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2020 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2019 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the MDX’s core strengths.
