How much does the 2020 Acura MDX cost?

Prices have softened 8.62% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,041 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Acura MDX a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Acura MDX earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10. You get a three-row luxury crossover that is especially appealing if you want a spacious family SUV with comfort, convenience, and technology working together rather than chasing one flashy specialty. User feedback repeatedly points to spaciousness, safety, comfort, and strong everyday usefulness, while the expert review also emphasizes its balanced overall package and loyal repeat audience. The main trade-offs are uninspired styling and outdated technology, so if you want the newest-feeling cabin or the most dramatic design, you may want to look elsewhere. Even so, 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2020 Acura MDX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers praising the MDX for being a vehicle they can count on over time. The expert review reinforces that sense of durability by describing the MDX as a proven, well-rounded SUV with a loyal repeat audience and competitive everyday usability. If you’re shopping used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific example you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by family-duty use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Acura MDX?

At 64.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage or lower-priced example. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the cabin and technology still feel consistent with the price you’re paying. Because this model is often used as a family hauler, it’s worth checking for wear in the seats, controls, and third row as well.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base MDX is nicely equipped, but it lacks the special tech extras that define the higher packages. The Technology Package adds navigation, parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and premium audio, while the Advance Package adds a surround-view camera, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, and Head-Up Warning.
• Powertrain: You get a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic and front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The MDX Sport Hybrid uses a 3.0-liter V6 with three electric motors for 321 hp and 289 lb-ft, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard AcuraWatch includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is added on the Technology Package, and Head-Up Warning comes with the Advance Package.
• Infotainment: The base setup includes an 8.0-inch upper screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, text and email capability, five USB ports, SiriusXM, and an eight-speaker audio system. Higher packages add navigation, Acura Real-Time Traffic, remote start, and larger-screen or upgraded audio setups.
• Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel-drive models are rated at 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, while SH-AWD models are rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. The Sport Hybrid SH-AWD is rated at 26 mpg city and 27 mpg highway.

Which 2020 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2020 Acura MDX is offered in 3 trim levels: Base MDX, Technology Package, Advance Package.

Here's the short version:

• Base MDX: This is the value play if you want the MDX’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. You still get standard AcuraWatch safety tech, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the roomy, family-friendly layout, but you miss the extra convenience and luxury features that make the higher packages feel more complete.
• Technology Package: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds navigation, parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and upgraded audio without jumping all the way to the top package. If you want the most balanced mix of equipment and price, this is the trim to target.
• Advance Package: Choose this if you want the most comfort and convenience features, including the surround-view camera, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, Head-Up Warning, and the larger 16.2-inch screen. It’s the right pick if you plan to keep the SUV long term and want the most premium experience.

The Technology Package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, while the Advance Package adds Head-Up Warning.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Acura MDX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,041 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.62% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,666, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Acura MDX's resale value?

The current average of $23,666 sits slightly below last year's $25,898.

That softer pricing suggests the MDX has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it’s time to resell. The model’s broad appeal as a family-friendly luxury SUV should also help support demand, especially for well-kept examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Acura MDX safe?

The 2020 Acura MDX earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA and “good” ratings from IIHS across all crash-test categories. It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard AcuraWatch includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. The Technology Package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and the Advance Package adds Head-Up Warning. You also get a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines, multiple airbags, stability control, traction control, and a body structure designed to manage crash energy effectively.

Should I buy a 2020 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 MDX combines standard advanced safety features with a spacious cabin and a balanced luxury-SUV character.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $21,144, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $23,666 average.
• It offers a proven, long-running three-row luxury crossover with a familiar, refined character.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market mix of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2020 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2019 is the more budget-friendly path and still gives you the MDX formula.

How does the 2020 Acura MDX compare to the 2020 Honda Pilot?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2020 Acura MDX:

• Pros: Standard advanced safety features, Spacious.
• Cons: Uninspired styling, Outdated technology.

2020 Honda Pilot:

• Pros: Powerful engine, Standard advanced safety features.
• Cons: Unintuitive technology, Interior materials feel cheap.

Our experts score the 2020 Acura MDX 7.2/10 and the 2020 Honda Pilot 8/10. The MDX leans more toward luxury comfort and a spacious cabin, while the Pilot brings a stronger value angle with a lower starting price and a slightly more powerful-feeling setup. Both offer standard advanced safety features, but the MDX’s drawbacks are its styling and outdated tech, while the Pilot’s weaknesses are its technology and interior materials.
