I really like the Acura MDX. It has MANY extra features on it that make it a safe and comfortable ride, has three rows of seats for major roominess/cargo carrying and I got it at a great price. Its a beautiful SUV. I had a previous MDX for 12 years and literally had 0 major repairs with it. Comparable models are the Lexus RX, which honestly has more responsiveness in handling, but not three row seating unless you pay $10,000 more and also has a rather strange look to it. The closest competition for my money is the BMW X3, which is a smaller 2 row SUV but is very comfortable and has amazing responsiveness in handling. I think visually it is a stunning car. BMWs reliability and cost of repair is concerning to me, but that will probably be my next SUV.

There are 916 listings available, which gives you a useful amount of inventory to compare across trims and conditions.
If you find a listing below $24,180.23, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 4.71/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.17/10.
The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise the MDX for its spacious cabin, comfort, safety features, and stylish design. The review summary also points to strong power delivery and family-friendly practicality, which fits the MDX’s role as a three-row luxury SUV.
The main trade-offs are that the technology can feel dated and the third row may feel tight for some buyers. That means you should view it as a comfort- and safety-first choice rather than a tech showcase.
With a broad appeal as a family-oriented luxury SUV, it makes the most sense if you want a well-rounded daily driver rather than the flashiest option in the segment. 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable, comfortable, and easy to live with over time. That kind of feedback matters when you’re shopping used, because it suggests the MDX has earned trust from people who have spent real time with it.
The expert review also emphasizes solid performance, a well-behaved transmission, and a comfortable suspension, all of which support a low-stress ownership experience. Acura’s standard maintenance coverage language also helps reinforce the sense that the MDX is built for straightforward ownership.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about finding a well-kept example with the right service history and no hidden wear.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Acura MDX?
At 65.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and evidence of prior bodywork or repair quality before you get too deep into trim comparisons.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base setup is well equipped, but it lacks the extra tech and convenience features that define the higher packages. You’ll want to compare how much value you place on the added equipment versus the lower entry price.
- Powertrain: You get a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, plus a hybrid option with 321 hp and 289 lb-ft. The gasoline model is paired with a nine-speed automatic, while the hybrid uses a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
- Safety package: Standard AcuraWatch includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are added with the Technology Package, while Head-Up Warning comes with the Advance Package.
- Infotainment: The base model includes an 8.0-inch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and five USB ports. The Technology Package adds navigation and a 9.0-inch screen, while the Advance Package upgrades to a 16.2-inch Ultra-Wide Full VGA screen.
- Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel-drive models are rated at 20 mpg city/27 mpg highway/23 mpg combined, while SH-AWD models return 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway/22 mpg combined. The Sport Hybrid SH-AWD is rated at 26 mpg city/27 mpg highway/27 mpg combined.
Which 2020 Acura MDX trim should I buy?
The 2020 Acura MDX is offered in 4 trim levels: base MDX, Technology Package, Advance Package, and Sport Hybrid SH-AWD.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: This is the value play if you want the MDX’s core strengths without paying for the pricier tech packages. It still includes AcuraWatch and the essentials, but it misses the extra convenience and luxury features that make the upper trims feel more premium.
- Sweet-spot trim: The Technology Package is the best balance for many shoppers because it adds navigation, parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and upgraded audio. It meaningfully improves day-to-day usability without jumping all the way to the top price tier.
- Premium/top trim: The Advance Package is the most luxurious gas-powered choice, adding heated and ventilated front seats, a surround-view camera system, Head-Up Warning, and more comfort-focused equipment. If you want the most complete non-hybrid MDX, this is the one to target.
- Off-road trim: The Sport Hybrid SH-AWD is worth considering if you want the strongest efficiency numbers and the extra power, but it is not the most straightforward pick for typical daily drivers.
The safety package note is simple: AcuraWatch is standard, while blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert require the Technology Package, and Head-Up Warning comes with the Advance Package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Acura MDX?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 916 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.71% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 65.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $24,180.23, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $25,007 sits slightly below last year's $27,095.
That price movement suggests the MDX has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. A softer market now can also make it easier for you to find a cleaner example without paying peak pricing.
If demand stays steady, well-kept MDX models should remain easier to resell than less popular luxury SUVs. Strong equipment, family appeal, and broad usefulness all help support future buyer interest.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Acura MDX safe?
The MDX earns Good ratings from IIHS across all crash-test categories and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard AcuraWatch includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is added with the Technology Package, and Head-Up Warning comes with the Advance Package.
The safety story is especially strong here because the MDX combines a broad standard driver-assistance suite with strong crash-test results. If you want the most complete safety setup, the higher packages add useful visibility and warning features.
Should I buy a 2020 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 65.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.71% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 model keeps the standard AcuraWatch safety suite and a broad mix of comfort and practicality.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $22,274, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $25,007 average.
- It offers a strong blend of performance, comfort, and practicality.
The bottom line: If you want the newer-year pricing context with strong safety, broad appeal, and plenty of listings to compare, the 2020 is the better starting point. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2019 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the core MDX strengths.
