CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
overall

Summary
With 888 currently listed for sale and an average price of $25,393.00, 31.5% of 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid 4.38 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.5 / 10.
72.9% of 2019 RAV4 Hybrid models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid stands out as a compact SUV that blends efficiency with a more rugged look than before. In CarGurus’ test-drive notes, the newest 2019 RAV4 Hybrid is described as looking tougher and more rugged, and the hybrid version is called the sportiest and most cost-effective way to drive a RAV4. That combination gives it a clear identity: it is aimed at buyers who want the practicality of a small SUV without giving up fuel efficiency or style.
It also earns praise for being an excellent value for money, stylish, and fuel-efficient. Those strengths help explain why it can appeal to shoppers who want a sensible daily driver that still feels appealing rather than purely utilitarian. The main drawback noted is outdated technology, and owner feedback echoes that concern by pointing to tech features that feel a bit behind the times. Even so, the overall impression is of a well-liked hybrid SUV that delivers strong efficiency, good comfort, and a compelling price-to-value balance.

I have only had the 2019 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid for a few days. So far I can say I enjoy driving it. The space inside is good for me and my daughter. The seats are comfortable. The ride is smooth. There is good acceleration when getting on the highway. The brakes work well.

I bought this car and I love it. I was in a small Kia Niro 2020 hybrid before and though my gas mileage was better I did not feel as safe as I do in the Toyota Rav4 hybrid. When I accelerate it actually accelerates and I live in a climate with ice and snow in the winter so the all wheel drive is something I feel better about having.

Generally — the 4.38/5 user rating points to a well-liked ownership experience, and the expert rating is 8.5/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.
Owners repeatedly praise the fuel economy, performance, and interior comfort, while also describing the hybrid as a strong value for money. The trade-offs are familiar: the tech can feel outdated, and the cabin may seem underwhelming for the price.
That mix fits you best if you want a compact SUV that feels more stylish and rugged than purely utilitarian, while still delivering hybrid efficiency for everyday driving. With 31.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a dependable, trouble-free experience, with buyers especially valuing the hybrid’s fuel economy and comfort over the long haul. The expert notes also emphasize that the hybrid battery setup has proven reliable after 20-plus years and several million Toyota hybrids sold.
Toyota’s hybrid system is described as quiet, seamless, and effortless in daily driving, which reinforces the sense that this is a vehicle you can count on. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the hybrid hardware and more about making sure the vehicle’s condition and maintenance history are clean.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?
At 73.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, repair quality, and whether the hybrid system, brakes, and electronics feel consistent during a test drive.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The XSE stands out with glossy black exterior trim, 18-inch wheels, blue-stitched interior details, and sport-tuned dampers and springs, while the cabin across the range uses large controls and a more upscale look than the old model. The base trim is less richly equipped, so you should compare feature content carefully if you want the best value.
- Powertrain: The hybrid system pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors and a battery for 219 horsepower. It is described as quiet, seamless, and efficient, with standard AWD and a CVT, though the braking feel is a weak point.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense comes standard with forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise, traffic-sign recognition, and auto high beams. Rear emergency braking is optional.
- Infotainment: The system uses a touchscreen with swipe and pinch gestures, Apple CarPlay is standard, and Android Auto is not. Toyota’s Entune 3.0 apps depend on a smartphone connection, and the maps are described as dated.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates it at 41 mpg city, 38 highway, and 40 combined, and the expert test drive returned 36 mpg over 400 mostly highway miles.
Which 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the hybrid’s core efficiency and standard safety equipment at the lowest price. It is the trim to compare first if you are shopping strictly on value.
- XLE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday comfort and convenience without pushing you to the top of the range. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, start here.
- XSE: This is the most distinctive choice, with the sportier look, sport-tuned suspension, and the strongest personality in the lineup. It suits you best if you care about style and driving feel as much as efficiency.
- Limited: This is the trim to consider if you want the most upscale version of the hybrid and are willing to pay for it. It makes the most sense if you want the fullest feature set.
Toyota Safety Sense is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up trims just to get the core driver-assistance package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s-market discount.
- Deal availability: 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 902 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.29% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 73.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,316.66, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $25,309 sits slightly below last year's $25,639.
That mild decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. If you plan to sell later, the current pricing trend is not a red flag, but it does suggest you should protect value by choosing a clean, well-kept example with strong documentation.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid safe?
The 2019 RAV4 Hybrid earns four-star ratings in the driver's-side frontal crash test and rollover resistance, and five-star ratings for the front passenger in the frontal crash test and for front and rear passengers in the side barrier and side pole tests from NHTSA. The IIHS rated the RAV4 Good in all six crash tests and Superior for collision avoidance, but low headlight scores kept it from earning a Top Safety Pick.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense comes standard and includes forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise, traffic-sign recognition, and auto high beams. A passenger-seat cushion airbag and a driver's knee airbag are also standard.
The main caveat is the headlight performance noted by IIHS, so you should pay attention to lighting equipment and nighttime visibility when comparing listings.
Should I buy a 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 73.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.29% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2019 brings a tougher look, stronger value, and the sportiest hybrid RAV4 feel.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $27,443, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $25,309 average.
- It adds a roomier passenger compartment and more standard multimedia and safety features.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2019 if you want the better price and a strong mix of style, efficiency, and owner satisfaction. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model with broader standard equipment and a roomier feel, the 2020 is the cleaner upgrade. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2019 remains the smarter value play.
