The ProMaster Cargo van offers a choice between three wheelbase lengths, two roof heights, and three rear-axle ratios. For 2019, it gets three new trims and improved payload and towing capacities.

The 1500 trim is available with either a 118- or 136-inch wheelbase. Its maximum payload reaches 4,000 pounds, depending on the wheelbase length and roof height. The 2500 trim comes with a heavy-duty suspension. It's available with either a 136- or 159-inch wheelbase and a low or high roof. Its top payload hits 4,230 pounds. The 3500 trim also features a heavy-duty suspension and comes with a maximum payload of 4,680 pounds, depending on the wheelbase length and roof height.

Cargo space ranges from 259 cubic feet in the 1500 trim with the 118-inch wheelbase and low roof, to a whopping 463 cubic feet in the 3500 trim with the 159-inch wheelbase, high roof, and extended cargo area.

All ProMaster Cargo vans come with a 3.6-liter V6 that produces 280 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The V6 sends power to the front wheel through a 6-speed automatic transmission. The ProMaster's front-wheel drive (FWD) limits its maximum towing capacity, although Ram has increased that capability this year as well, pushing the maximum to 6,800 pounds. While it's a 30% increase over last year, it's still less than its rear-wheel-drive (RWD) competitors like the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana van.

The interior of the ProMaster is utilitarian and rugged. Standard interior features include a reversing camera, air conditioning, cloth upholstery, a telescoping-only steering wheel, a 5-inch touchscreen, two USB ports, and a 4-speaker audio system with an auxiliary audio jack. Standard exterior features include 16-inch steel wheels, remote locking and unlocking, split-opening rear doors, manually adjustable mirrors, and a full-size spare tire. Available options include cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, vinyl upholstery, heated seats, lumbar adjustment for one or both seats, a double passenger seat, swivel seats, a suspended driver's seat, satellite radio, a navigation system, a tow hitch, alloy wheels, power-folding and heated mirrors, windows for the sliding rear doors, rear windows, daytime-running lights, and rear parking sensors.

The ProMaster Cargo Van has not been crash-tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It comes with electronic stability control, electronic roll mitigation, hill-start assist, and supplemental airbags in the front.
