overall

Summary
With 43 currently listed for sale near Dallas, TX and an average price of $15,492.00, 16.3% of 2019 Nissan Maximas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Nissan Maxima 4.75 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2019 Nissan Maxima stands out as Nissan’s premier sedan, combining considerable power and style with the kind of crisp handling that has helped build its reputation over time. It is also described as a premium midsize Nissan sedan, which helps explain why it aims to feel a step above the ordinary family sedan.
For 2019, Nissan gave the Maxima a mild refresh that brought updated style, technology, and interior features. That makes this version appealing to buyers who want a sedan with a more upscale cabin and premium interior materials, along with a great ride quality. At the same time, the Maxima is not without drawbacks: its technology is described as outdated, and its design may be polarizing.

Excellent power, especially in sport mode. Fuel economy is on the low end with lots of city driving. Good fit and finish; doesnt feel cheap. The leather seats are plush, but durable. Good noise level at high speeds. Very little vibration on rough roads. Odd rattle in the back which sounds like a loose seat lock, but the seats are secure. Rear factory tint is bubbling after 2.5 years.

Is the 2019 Nissan Maxima a good car?
Yes — the 4.75/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.5/10. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.
Drivers consistently praise the Maxima for its powerful performance, stylish appearance, and comfortable interior. The feedback also highlights good handling and plush leather seats, which reinforces its appeal if you want a sedan that feels more upscale than average.
The trade-offs are clear: the expert review calls out outdated technology and a polarizing design. That means you should value the Maxima most if you want a premium-feeling sedan with a strong road presence rather than the newest interface or the most universally appealing styling.
For shoppers who want a premium midsize sedan with a more upscale cabin and a great ride quality, the Maxima fits that brief well. With 25.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Nissan Maxima reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a car that many drivers feel they can count on, with praise centered on its comfortable interior, powerful performance, and good handling. That kind of recurring satisfaction usually matters more than a single feature when you’re evaluating long-term ownership.
The expert review adds that the Maxima’s powertrain is smooth and well sorted, with traction control that keeps the front tires from lighting up under hard acceleration. It also notes that the car remains composed and enjoyable despite some steering and brake shortcomings.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether you can live with the Maxima’s older-feeling tech and any wear-related issues that show up in higher-mileage examples.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Nissan Maxima?
At 51.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and interior condition. Because the accident-free share is only a little over half the market, it’s smart to focus on signs of prior repair quality, not just mileage and price.
Pay close attention to how the cabin has aged, since the Maxima’s appeal depends heavily on its premium feel. You’ll also want to confirm that the technology and driver-assistance features work as expected, especially on higher-trim examples.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SV stands out for upgraded interior materials, contrast stitching, tight panel gaps, and polished black console trim, while the Platinum Reserve adds semi-aniline saddle-colored leather with diamond quilting and bronze-colored trim. The base S misses navigation, so feature gaps are most noticeable there.
- Powertrain: A 3.5-liter V6 with 300 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque is paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. The setup is smooth and strong, with immediate thrust and well-managed torque steer.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and knee airbags for both front occupants. The SV adds blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control, the SR adds pedestrian detection and lane-departure warning, and Platinum models add reverse emergency braking.
- Infotainment: Most trims get an updated navigation system, while the base S does not. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the system includes a customizable home screen plus a high-speed USB-C port.
- Fuel efficiency: The Maxima is rated at 20 mpg city, 30 highway, and 24 combined.
Which 2019 Nissan Maxima trim should I buy?
The 2019 Nissan Maxima is offered in 6 trim levels: S, SV, SL, SR, Platinum, Platinum Reserve.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the entry point, but it skips navigation, so it makes the most sense only if you’re focused on the lowest price and can live without the extra tech.
- SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and a more upscale cabin feel without jumping to the top of the range.
- SL: Choose this if you want a more comfort-oriented setup and a step up in refinement over the lower trims.
- SR: This is the pick if you want the sportier character, including a firmer ride and added driver-assistance features such as pedestrian detection and lane-departure warning.
- Platinum: This trim is for buyers who want more luxury and the added reverse emergency braking feature.
- Platinum Reserve: This is the most upscale choice, with semi-aniline saddle-colored leather, diamond quilting, and bronze-colored trim.
The safety package is strongest on the higher trims, but the SV already gives you a strong mix of value and protection.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Nissan Maxima?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile deals.
- Deal availability: 25.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 563 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.31% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 51.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $16,748.73, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Nissan Maxima's resale value?
The current average of $17,105 sits slightly below last year's $18,657.
That price movement suggests the Maxima has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy now and plan to sell later. A lower entry price can reduce the amount of value you lose over your ownership period.
The model’s appeal also helps support future demand. Buyers still respond to its strong performance, upscale interior, and premium-sedan feel, which can make it easier to attract interest when you’re ready to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Nissan Maxima safe?
The Maxima is an IIHS Top Safety Pick, and it scored five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for only the front-passenger side in a frontal crash and overall for the side-impact pole test.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes forward-emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and knee airbags for both the driver and front passenger. The SV adds blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control, the SR adds pedestrian detection and lane-departure warning, and Platinum models add reverse emergency braking.
One important caveat is that the Maxima does not offer ProPilot Assist, so you miss out on Nissan’s semi-automated driving suite here.
Should I buy a 2019 Nissan Maxima or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 25.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 51.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.31% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2019 refresh brings updated style, technology, and interior features.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $17,632, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $17,105 average.
- It adds a roomier, more comfort-focused feel with standard advanced safety features.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2019 is the smarter buy because prices have softened and the refresh improved its cabin and tech. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year and a slightly more spacious, comfort-oriented setup, the 2020 is the secondary path to consider.
