Why it stands out
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class stands out because it sits at the center of Mercedes-Benz’s long-running flagship formula: a large luxury sedan built to showcase the brand’s best technology, craftsmanship, and safety engineering. In this generation, Mercedes gave the car the second generation of its MBUX infotainment interface, and buyers could opt for up to five screens on board. Mercedes also said there was a new 3D driver display system that uses eye tracking to create the illusion of depth, reinforcing the S-Class’s role as a rolling technology showcase.
It also offers serious performance for a luxury sedan. In 2019, Mercedes upgraded the plug-in hybrid into the S 560e, which had 469 system horsepower and 30 miles of electric range. That combination makes the car appealing to buyers who want quiet, efficient commuting without giving up the effortless power expected from an S-Class. The model’s appeal is further strengthened by its reputation for lavish luxury and advanced safety systems, though it remains expensive to buy, fuel, maintain, and insure.
At the same time, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is not a bargain, and that is part of its identity. It is a car chosen for its sense of occasion and its depth of equipment rather than for value, and even used examples still carry the costs that come with a top-tier luxury sedan. For buyers who want a flagship experience with standout technology, strong performance, and a richly appointed cabin, that tradeoff is exactly what makes it distinctive.

How much does the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $39,070 |
| Year-Round Low | $39,070 |
| Year-Round High | $45,354 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $44,801 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.79% |
Prices have softened 12.79% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 595 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of used examples to compare.
Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class a good car?
Yes — the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its luxurious feel, advanced technology, strong performance, craftsmanship, spacious interior, and safety features. That lines up well with its role as a flagship luxury sedan built for buyers who want a sense of occasion, standout equipment, and a richly appointed cabin. With 29.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many buyers, with praise centered on the car’s long-term appeal, luxury execution, and confidence-inspiring feel. That said, this is still a complex flagship sedan, so your long-term ownership risk is less about basic durability and more about the cost of keeping a highly equipped luxury car in top condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?
At 67.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection from a shop that knows high-end luxury sedans. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the car’s advanced equipment and interior features are functioning as expected.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 595 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.79% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 67.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $39,070, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class's resale value?
The current average of $39,070 sits slightly below last year's $44,801.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, it also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. Because this model attracts buyers looking for luxury, technology, and prestige, well-kept examples should continue to draw interest even as the broader market softens.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 67.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.79% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2019 is the better fit if you want a flagship luxury sedan with strong owner satisfaction and a softer used-market price than it had a year ago. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2019 remains the stronger choice when you want the best balance of satisfaction, availability, and current pricing.
