How much does the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class cost?

Prices have softened 8.72% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 411 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its rugged design, solid build quality, modern features, and head-turning looks. The review summary also points to strong resale value, which reinforces its appeal if you want something that feels special and holds attention over time.

On the downside, the expert notes poor visibility and a lack of standard advanced safety features, and it also calls out poor value for money. That makes it a better fit if you care more about character, presence, and luxury than maximizing practicality or bargain pricing.

The overview frames it as a luxury SUV with serious character, strong presence, and off-road credibility, so it suits you best if you want a distinctive status symbol that still feels capable. 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user review summary points to solid build quality and a vehicle that owners feel good about keeping, while also highlighting strong resale value. The expert performance notes reinforce that sense of durability by describing the G-Class as feeling carved from a single block of steel and able to handle punishing off-road use.

The cost-effectiveness commentary also underscores that this is a special-purpose vehicle built with premium engineering rather than everyday thrift in mind. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about basic toughness and more about accepting expensive upkeep and the compromises that come with a highly specialized luxury SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

At 73% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, visibility-related wear, and any signs of hard use. Because this model is expensive and specialized, condition matters more than mileage alone, and you’ll want to confirm that the truck has been maintained properly and hasn’t been abused off-road or in city parking.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is defined by ultra-soft leather, wood, aluminum accents, LED lighting, and a highly custom feel, but the base setup still lacks some conveniences you may expect in a modern luxury SUV.
• Powertrain: A 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 makes 416 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic, permanent 4WD, a 2-speed transfer case, and three locking differentials.
• Safety package: The stability control is aggressive, and the active lane-keeping system turns on by default and can be difficult to disable. Advanced safety features are not standard.
• Infotainment: The Comand system is crisp and colorful, with WiFi and live traffic, but some functions are buried in submenus and there is no head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert notes that the G-Class is not a value option and emphasizes its performance and capability rather than efficiency.

Which 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class trim should I buy?

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is offered in 1 trim level: G550.

Here's the short version:

The G550 is the trim to focus on if you want the core G-Class experience: the handcrafted luxury cabin, the 416-horsepower twin-turbo V8, permanent 4WD, and the full personality that makes this SUV stand out. It is the best-value choice by default because it delivers the model’s defining character without stepping into the much pricier AMG territory.

The safety content also notes that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should verify the equipment on any specific listing before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 411 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.72% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $104,254, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class's resale value?

The current average of $104,431 sits slightly below last year's $114,403.

That decline suggests the market has cooled from a year ago, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the truck is equipped and maintained.

Because this model has strong owner satisfaction and a distinctive image, demand should remain supported among shoppers who want a luxury SUV with real character. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class safe?

The G-Class has not and never will be tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety because it is a boutique, low-volume luxury vehicle.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Mercedes does not offer the latest semi-automated cruise control, active steering on marked highways, or Evasive Steering Assist here, and a head-up display is also unavailable. The active lane-keeping system turns on by default and can be intrusive, while the stability control is tuned very aggressively.

The expert safety commentary also warns that the G-Class has a greater tendency to roll over than other SUVs, which is an important caveat if you’re shopping for family use or if inexperienced drivers will be behind the wheel.

Should I buy a 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 brings an all-new redesign that modernizes the G-Class while preserving its rugged character.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $119,189, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $104,431 average.
• It keeps the same old-school presence while adding the next model year's updated take on the redesigned G-Class.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2019 is the smarter buy because it delivers the redesign and the core G-Class personality at a lower average price. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer example, the 2020 is the cleaner alternative for buyers who want to stay one step closer to the latest model year.
