overall

Summary
With 205 currently listed for sale and an average price of $31,195.00, 35.6% of 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLSs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
65.9% of 2019 CLS models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS stands out first for its styling. Mercedes-Benz describes it as the brand’s slickest sedan, and the car’s curvy, striking shape is presented as a major part of its appeal. Even as a rarer sight on the road, the 2019 CLS is positioned as a luxury sedan that still turns heads while aiming to lead with superior technology and powertrains.
It also brings a strong mix of comfort and safety. The test-drive data highlights great ride quality and standard advanced safety features, which should make it appealing to buyers who want a refined daily driver with a premium feel. At the same time, the 2019 CLS is not without drawbacks: the back seat is cramped, the technology is described as unintuitive, and it is called poor value for money. That combination makes it a car for shoppers who prioritize design and presence over maximum practicality or bargain pricing.

Great power with exceptional handling. AMG features (sports seats, steering wheel) are definitely worth the extra money. The infotainment is a bit outdated despite the controls being very intuitive, and sound system is top notch! I was looking at the A7/S7 and thought this was a much better option.

Great car. Its a mercedes so repairs are expensive and the CLS is a little impractical in the back seat. But its a blast to drive and smooth and quiet.

If you find a listing below $31,059.24, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS a good car?
Yes — 5/5 from users and 8.17/10 from experts. The 2019 CLS is positioned as a luxury sedan that leads with styling, superior technology, and strong powertrains, while also delivering a refined ride and standard advanced safety features.
The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Safety.
That said, you should weigh the cramped back seat and the unintuitive technology against the car’s standout design and premium feel. It works best if you want a stylish daily driver that prioritizes presence, comfort, and a high-end cabin over maximum practicality.
34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The CLS is described as a refined luxury sedan with a smooth, technically advanced powertrain and a comfort-focused ride. Its hybrid setup is designed to reduce shake at startup, smooth out stop-start operation, and keep the cabin calm in everyday driving.
The powertrain description also points to a well-integrated 48-volt system that supports accessories and seamless engine restarts, which is the kind of engineering detail that can help day-to-day ownership feel polished. If you buy used, the main long-term risk is that a complex luxury setup can be expensive to keep in top shape once warranty coverage is gone.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS?
At 65.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, wheels, and interior condition. Because this model is a luxury sedan with expensive options and advanced technology, you’ll want to confirm that everything works as intended, especially the driver-assistance and infotainment features.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The CLS 450 4Matic is described as the base car, and the cabin can be especially lavish when equipped with the designo interior treatment and other upscale options. The standard setup already emphasizes style and comfort, while the more richly appointed versions add more visual drama and luxury.
- Powertrain: The CLS uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 with a 48-volt hybrid system and an electric motor-generator, and the AMG CLS 53 adds more output with an electric compressor. The base setup is tuned for smoothness and relaxed touring, while the AMG version is aimed at stronger acceleration.
- Safety package: The Driver Assistance Package adds one of the best semi-autonomous systems in the business, with steering and braking assistance, lane changes when you hold the signal, and speed and curve adjustment. Standard safety equipment also includes pedestrian and blind-spot detection, cross-traffic alerts, forward-collision alert, auto braking, and a driver-attention monitor.
- Infotainment: The cabin uses a configurable display setup rather than a touchscreen, and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included. Navigation comes with three years of map updates and live traffic, while onboard Wi-Fi and wireless charging are optional.
- Fuel efficiency: The CLS 450 rear-wheel-drive model is rated at 24 mpg city, 31 highway, and 26 combined, while the 4Matic version is rated at 23/30/26. The AMG CLS 53 4Matic returns 21/27/23.
Which 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS trim should I buy?
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS is offered in 2 trim levels: CLS 450 4Matic, AMG CLS 53 4Matic.
Here's the short version:
- CLS 450 4Matic: This is the best-value choice if you want the CLS experience without chasing the highest price. It already gives you the smooth inline-6 hybrid powertrain, a cushy touring feel, and the core luxury and safety content that define the model.
- AMG CLS 53 4Matic: Choose this if you want the stronger performance-oriented version. It adds more power and a more aggressive character, but it makes the most sense if you care more about speed and response than value.
The safety package note to keep in mind is that the Driver Assistance Package is optional, so you should verify whether a used example has it before you buy.

If you find a listing below $31,059.24, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS's resale value?
The current average of $31,037 sits slightly below last year's $33,572.
That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy now and plan to own it for a while. For a future seller, the softer market means you should expect resale to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable options should hold up better than neglected cars with missing features or visible wear.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS safe?
It earns 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The CLS comes with a strong standard safety suite that includes pedestrian and blind-spot detection, front and rear cross-traffic alerts, forward-collision alert, auto braking, a driver-attention monitor, advanced steering assistance, and Car-to-X connected warnings. It also includes a system that can prepare the cabin for an impending rear impact, plus crosswind mitigation.
The Driver Assistance Package adds semi-autonomous highway and lane-centering capability, lane-change assistance, and speed-and-curve adjustment. One caveat is that the system can make mistakes and may feel less intuitive than an attentive driver, so you should not assume it will replace active supervision.
Should I buy a 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 65.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.55% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- This year stands out for its striking third-generation design, strong technology, and hybridized powertrain.
The bottom line: If you want the CLS at its most distinctive, the 2019 is the right target because it combines standout styling, strong expert scores, and a softer market than last year. If you are especially price-sensitive, focus on the best-maintained examples with the right options rather than stretching for the newest or most heavily equipped car.
