How much does the 2019 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 2.86% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,183 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare on price and condition.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.83/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its value, luxury feel, great handling, interior quality, safety features, and impressive fuel efficiency. The main trade-offs are unintuitive technology and a base engine that some shoppers find underwhelming.

That lines up well with the CX-5’s role as a stylish compact SUV for you if you want something that feels more polished than the average mainstream crossover. The market also shows 35.5% good or great deals, so there are still attractive listings to consider.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for value, safety, and the kind of quality that makes the CX-5 easy to count on. The expert evaluation also reinforces that impression by describing the CX-5 as a strong value with a polished driving character and broad appeal.

Mazda’s maintenance perk language is not included in the available data, but the overall ownership picture still looks reassuring for used buyers. Your main long-term risk is choosing a poorly maintained example, especially if you want the stronger powertrain or a higher-trim vehicle with more equipment.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mazda CX-5?

At 65.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment level matches what you expect from the trim. If you want the best ownership experience, make sure the infotainment and safety features work as intended and that the vehicle has been maintained consistently.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Sport trim includes LED headlights, a push-button ignition, a 7-inch touchscreen, and a strong safety suite, while Touring adds keyless entry, a power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear vents, heated front seats, two more USB ports, and an upgraded stereo. Grand Touring adds adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, leather upholstery, an upgraded driver display, and navigation, while Grand Touring Reserve and Signature bring the turbocharged engine and more luxury equipment; the base trim is the most feature-light choice.
• Powertrain: Most trims use a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder with a 6-speed automatic, rated at 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, while Grand Touring Reserve and Signature get a turbocharged version with up to 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The base setup is efficient and adequate, but the stronger engine is the better fit if you want more passing power.
• Safety package: Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard across the range and includes automatic headlights, wipers, and high beams; lane-departure warning and assist; adaptive cruise control; and forward-collision warning with mitigation. The top Signature trim adds the 360-degree camera and parking sensors, so lower trims miss those extras.
• Infotainment: The CX-5 uses a MazdaConnect system with a 7-inch touchscreen, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard above the base Sport trim. The system is attractive and responsive, though the scroll-wheel interface may not suit everyone.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is EPA-estimated at 25 mpg city, 31 highway, and 28 combined, while the turbocharged setup is rated at 22 mpg city and 27 highway, for 24 combined.

Which 2019 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, and Signature.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core CX-5 experience with LED headlights, a 7-inch touchscreen, and standard safety tech, but it lacks Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It makes sense only if you’re focused on the lowest price and can live without the nicer tech.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds keyless entry, a power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear vents, heated front seats, extra USB ports, and an upgraded stereo. If you want a well-rounded CX-5 without stretching too far, this is the trim to target.
• Grand Touring: This trim adds leather upholstery, adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, an upgraded driver display, and navigation. It suits you if you want a more upscale cabin and more convenience features without jumping to the turbo models.
• Grand Touring Reserve: This is the first trim with the turbocharged engine, and it also adds a head-up display, power-folding mirrors, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a windshield wiper de-icer. It’s the right pick if you want the strongest all-around mix of performance and comfort.
• Signature: This is the most luxurious version, with ambient cabin lighting, upgraded leather upholstery, real wood trim, a 360-degree camera, and parking sensors front and rear. Buy this if you want the most premium CX-5 experience and are willing to pay for it.

Safety content notes that the advanced driver-assistance suite is standard across the range, while the 360-degree camera and parking sensors are reserved for the Signature trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.

• Deal availability: 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,183 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.86% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,190, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $18,818 sits slightly below last year's $19,373.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-5 has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you choose a well-kept example with desirable equipment, you may have an easier time holding value than if you buy a stripped or poorly maintained trim. The strongest versions should remain easier to resell because they better match what shoppers want in this model.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 earns Top Safety Pick marks from IIHS and five-star ratings in nearly every NHTSA category, with a four-star rollover rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard across the range and includes automatic headlights, wipers, and high beams; lane-departure warning and assist; adaptive cruise control; and forward-collision warning with mitigation. The Signature trim adds a 360-degree camera and parking sensors, so lower trims miss those extra aids.

The rollover result is the main caveat to keep in mind, even though the rest of the crash-test picture is strong.

Should I buy a 2019 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.86% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mazda added Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a turbocharged engine for top trims.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $16,614, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $18,818 average.
• It emphasizes style, sophistication, and an engaging driving feel.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $20,010, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $18,818 average.
• It leans further into premium positioning with upscale materials and a comfortable ride.

The bottom line: The 2019 is the sweet spot if you want the updated tech, stronger top-end power, and a still-reasonable used price. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2018 can save you money, but the 2019 is the better all-around buy for most shoppers because it adds meaningful improvements without jumping to the next model year’s higher average price.
