How much does the 2019 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 2.36% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,197 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare on price, mileage, and condition.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — with a 4.83/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 lands firmly in the strong-buy category for used shoppers. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its value, luxury feel, great handling, interior quality, safety features, and impressive fuel efficiency. The main trade-offs are the unintuitive technology and the underwhelming base engine.

That makes it especially appealing if you want a compact SUV that feels more polished than average and still works well as a practical daily driver. The market also shows 37.4% good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile listings to find.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise centered on value, safety, and overall satisfaction.

The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by describing the CX-5 as a vehicle that delivers a lot of car for the money and remains easy to recommend. It also notes that the base engine is adequate for everyday use, which supports the idea that the drivetrain should be manageable for long-term ownership.

For used buyers, the main risk is less about outright reliability and more about choosing the right example, since condition and maintenance history will matter more than the model’s overall reputation.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mazda CX-5?

At 65% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any evidence that the vehicle was repaired after a collision. It also helps to compare trim equipment carefully, since some versions add meaningful comfort and safety upgrades.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Sport trim includes LED headlights, a push-button ignition, a 7-inch touchscreen, and a strong safety suite, while Touring adds keyless entry, a power driver's seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear climate vents, heated front seats, two more USB ports, and an upgraded stereo. Grand Touring adds adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, leather upholstery, an upgraded driver display, and navigation, while Grand Touring Reserve and Signature bring the turbocharged engine and more luxury features. The base trim is the one most likely to feel stripped compared with the higher trims.
• Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder with a 6-speed automatic, rated at 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. The Grand Touring Reserve and Signature use a turbocharged version with up to 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, or 227 hp on lower-octane fuel.
• Safety package: Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard across the range and includes automatic headlights, wipers, and high beams; lane-departure warning and assist; adaptive cruise control; and forward-collision warning and mitigation. The top Signature trim adds the 360-degree camera and parking sensors.
• Infotainment: The CX-5 uses MazdaConnect with a 7-inch touchscreen, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard above the base Sport trim. The system is attractive and responsive, though the scroll-wheel interface may not suit everyone.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is EPA-estimated at 25 mpg city, 31 highway, and 28 combined. The turbocharged setup is EPA-estimated at 22 mpg city, 27 highway, and 24 combined.

Which 2019 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, Signature.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the least expensive way into the CX-5, and it still brings LED headlights, a push-button ignition, a 7-inch touchscreen, and the full standard safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price, but it is also the trim most affected by the lack of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds keyless entry, a power driver's seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear climate vents, heated front seats, two more USB ports, and an upgraded stereo. If you want a well-rounded CX-5 without stretching too far, this is the one to target.
• Grand Touring: This trim adds adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, leather upholstery, an upgraded driver display, and navigation. It suits you if you want a more upscale cabin and more convenience features without jumping to the turbocharged models.
• Grand Touring Reserve: This is where the more powerful turbocharged engine arrives, along with a head-up display, power-folding mirrors, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a windshield wiper de-icer. It is the right pick if you want the strongest blend of performance and comfort.
• Signature: This is the most luxurious version, adding ambient cabin lighting, upgraded leather upholstery, real wood trim, a 360-degree camera, and parking sensors front and rear. It is the top choice if you want the most premium CX-5 experience.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the Signature is the only trim that adds the 360-degree camera and parking sensors.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Mazda CX-5?

The market looks moderately favorable if you are a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 37.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,197 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.36% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,189, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $18,869 sits slightly below last year's $19,325.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-5 has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. A model that is still in demand and priced competitively today may be easier to move later, especially if you choose a well-equipped trim in good condition.

Strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand over time, since shoppers tend to gravitate toward vehicles with a good reputation. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 earns Top Safety Pick recognition from IIHS and five-star ratings in nearly every NHTSA category, with a four-star rating in rollover.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard across the range and includes automatic headlights, wipers, and high beams; lane-departure warning and assist; adaptive cruise control; and forward-collision warning and mitigation. The top Signature trim adds the 360-degree camera and parking sensors.

The main caveat is the rollover result, which is the one weaker point in an otherwise strong safety profile.

Should I buy a 2019 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 37.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.36% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mazda added Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, improved handling, and a turbocharged engine for top trims.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $16,798, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $18,869 average.
• It emphasizes style, driver engagement, and a premium feel.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $20,138, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $18,869 average.
• It leans further into premium positioning with upscale materials and a more refined feel.

The bottom line: The 2019 is the best all-around choice if you want the updated tech, stronger safety story, and improved driving dynamics without paying newer-model pricing. If your budget is tighter, the 2018 can still make sense, but the 2019 is the better buy for most shoppers because it fixes key shortcomings and keeps pricing below the next model year.
